From a suicide squid squad, to the eery findings deep under the Australian Great Barrier Reef, these are 10 STRANGE Deep Sea Photos Explained Under the Reef Let’s head back to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef for this one … actually, we’re heading under the Reef. Researchers came away with some incredible pictures of deep sea creatures when high-tech cameras were able to examine environments some 1500 meters (nearly 5000 feet) below the surface. Scary-looking deep-sea anglerfish, swarms of crustaceans and deep sea jellyfish Atolla were among the many strange forms of ocean life found over the course of the 10 day research project. When this bizarre looking deep sea creature washed up on a New Zealand beach earlier in 2016, people didn’t know what to make of it. The 13-foot animal’s disturbing, black dinner-plate-sized eyes and humped back gave a few tourists a shock … but some maintained their composure long enough to take a picture of the creature … or with the creature! While the sea creature may have unusual looks, it’s not exactly an unusual creature. It’s a bigeye thresher shark, known to hunt offshore, but are rarely observed close to beaches. The animals use their long tail to stun prey, but aren’t considered a threat to humans. There are three species of thresher shark, and all have been listed as ‘vulnerable to extinction’ since 2007. Acorn Worm -- A six-week research project in 2010 set out to investigate marine life forms along the mid-Atlantic ridge … it’s a sub-polar front where warm waters from the south meets cold waters from the Gulf Stream. The exploration yielded a vast array of sea life and many potential new species. This Acorn Worm (aka Enteropneust Hemichordate anter-ope-nee-ist (heem-mah-chore-date) was photographed with a Remote Operated Vehicle, which located the creature using its adhesive tentacles to attach itself to the seafloor. The picture by David Shale almost looks like the worm could be a flower blossoming from its stem underwater. Acorn Worms are invertebrates that can survive at depths of 10,000 feet below the ocean surface. Deep Sea Anemone -- Does it look like a trap is waiting to be sprung … like if you get too close to the center of this thing, those tentacles will suddenly rise up and imprison you? You’re not far wrong. Say hello to the sea anemone … an invertebrate carnivore named after the terrestrial anemone flower, due to the perceived resemblance. They spend most of their time attached to rocks on the seafloor. They’ll also attach themselves to coral reefs waiting for fish to pass by. Those tentacles are actually filled with venom, which will paralyze prey the anemone ensnares. While most anemones are harmless to humans, certain highly toxic species are potentially lethal. Did you know that depending on the species, sea anemones can live more than 50 years? Big Red -- Bet you wouldn't guess this is a jellyfish. This relatively new species was discovered in the Pacific Ocean in 2003 … but was first spotted 10 years earlier. Only 23 members of this species have been found, with only a very small specimen acquired for study. The creatures are known to grow up to 30 inches in diameter and live at ocean depths of nearly 5000 feet. Because they live at such extreme depths, remote operated submarines were used to take pictures and high-resolution videos of the creatures. What really makes them distinct from other species of jellyfish is the lack of long tentacles … this creature has four-to-seven thick, fleshy arms it uses to capture food and eat. While scientists know the jellyfish is red all over, it could take awhile before researchers can uncover more information pertaining to the animal's food, predators, reproduction and so on. Here’s a fun fact … researchers were originally going to call the animal “Big Ugly” … but it was renamed “Gran rojo” … Spanish for Big Red. Think this picture of a Beluga whale looks strange? He sounded even stranger. This is Noc, a whale that could actually mimic human speech. His voice was so human-like that it often fooled divers … and made researchers believe the marine mammal was trying to make contact with his human friends. It’s thought that Noc began making human-like sounds after hearing divers using their communication equipment underwater. After hearing Noc, scientists at the National Marine Mammal Foundation in San Diego tried to pick up more voices by building a special underwater listening platform. While Noc could be heard on the mic, the other two older whales who lived with him didn’t seem as eager to communicate. Sorry to say that after 30 years at the national Marine Mammal Foundation, Noc passed away in 2007. You won't believe what is actually captured in photos deep underwater from yoga with a stingray to mysterious abandoned boats 9. Deadly Blue Hole This enormous hole on the ocean floor in known as ‘Dean’s Blue Hole’ and is the world’s deepest known saltwater blue hole that has an entrance below sea level. It is 202 meters deep and is located in a bay just west of Clarence Town on Long Island in the Bahamas. It certainly gives me goosebumps just looking at it, and I wouldn’t want to fall into it. 8. Scary Giant Squid One of the most daunting and intimidating sea creatures of them all is the giant squid, which can grow to a massive size because of deep-sea gigantism. According to recent estimates, the giant squid females can grow to lengths of 43 feet, or 13 meters, and the males grow up to 33 feet, or 10 meters, from the tip of the tentacles to the posterior fins. That is as large as an average yacht! Can you say deep sea nightmare? 7. Yoga with a Giant Stingray While it may look like the stingray is smiling, and that the swimmer is doing calming yoga, the beauty of this picture is how dangerous what the swimmer is doing actually is. Contact with a stingray’s stinger could mean death for this swimmer. The large fish, and the contrast of how small the human is in comparison, makes this one of the most breathtaking underwater interaction pictures. Also, it is pretty impressive how the swimmer is holding that beautiful pose with the giant stingray just feet away. 6. Creepy Wall of Seaweed No, this is not an optical illusion. That’s right, what you are seeing in this picture is tons of giant seaweed in the rolling waves. Yes, seaweed, like what sushi is wrapped in. But this form of seaweed is far less edible and far more sinister. People die every year from getting caught in its sliminess, causing them to drown as a result. Typically, seaweed isn’t considered as dangerous as a shark, but have you ever had that feeling of something under the water brushing up against you that makes you want to jump out of your skin? That is exactly what you get with this seaweed. 5. Abandoned Submarine The ocean floor doesn’t just have creepy animals, but also some creepy leftovers from humans. There is something so creepy about swimming around the remains of an old ship, or in this case, a giant abandoned submarine. Around the submarine, you will find giant jellyfish and big fish, but that is not the biggest concern for divers. Getting caught in the massive boat’s propeller would spell out certain death. It would probably be best to stick to coral reefs and sharks. 4. The Shadowing Shark What could be more pleasant than a day out on your kayak paddling through crystal clear turquoise waters? Well, this unassuming fella clearly thought the same thing. But what he doesn’t know is that there is danger lurking just feet from him, which could have resulted in a lethal attack. This situation is exactly how many people who are killed by sharks happen to die – when they are least expecting it. We would be high-tailing it out of there as fast as we could paddle. 3. Creepy Ocean Bug So the Goblin Shark and the Wolffish may be terribly ugly looking things, even by sea creature standards, but this gigantic sea bug really takes the cake. It has officially been called a giant isopod, and it certainly is a giant. While this creepy creature may not be as delicious as a sea bream or red snapper, this fisherman looks quite happy with himself for catching the big crustacean. 2. Shark Face Just this picture alone is enough to make anyone question going for a swim in the ocean. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the dramatic and intense cello music and the unsuspecting swimmer being dragged to the depths of the ocean to become dinner for one of these sharp-toothed creatures. The scariest part is just how calm the top of the water looks, making it even more real that this shark could be swimming near you and you wouldn’t even know it. Brave the open ocean… if you dare! 1. Creepy Bubble Formation Water is an interesting substance, allowing for creepy displays when air comes into contact with it. Imagine scuba diving along the ocean bed only to look up and see what appears to be a bubble man. It would give any of us the heebie-jeebies, especially knowing what other creatures share the water.

A sea of plastic: Shocking images show how bottles, bags and rubbish are choking our oceans In one photograph taken near Roatan, an island off the coast of Honduras, a diver grimaces as he prepares to enter the water almost completely covered by waste. Another, taken from below the waterline, shows plastic bottles, bags and other rubbish on the surface blocking out sunlight. It is thought the rubbish was washed into the sea from nearby Guatemala, carried on rivers swollen by the recent rainy season flowing through towns and villages. Largest National Flag Under Sea by Scuba Divers (25 m x 2.5 m) A 25 meter Egyptian flag was placed underwater in the Red Sea by the AUC Scuba Diving team to promote and support eco-tourism and related recreational sports such as scuba diving and to raise awareness about the unique marine life and coral reef on the extended Egyptian shores on the Red Sea. The flag was first photographed at the Library Garden in the AUC New Cairo campus in Cairo and at the AUC El Gouna campus in Hurghada in order to reference and verify its size relative to those hallmarks whose dimensions are easily obtained from Google Maps and Google Earth (see Google Maps and Google Earth images and their scale). The flag was also photographed from the boat while sailing in the sea before it was placed under the sea surface, held, and photographed by scuba divers from the AUC Scuba Diving Team. According to registered records of the Guinness World Records before this attempt, this is the largest national flag to be placed under sea surface by scuba divers. http://froknowsphoto.com/qt-beach-photos/ I just landed from my trip to Ft Lauderdale Florida where I got to spend some time on the beach. While I was out there sitting on the beach getting stressed out that I was just sitting around, I decided to make a video. The Quick Tip I decided to focus on was taking pictures on the beach and a few do's and dont's. Now I know I only gave a few tips but I think they are tips that should be kept in your mind for when you may have to shoot on the beach. The first tip has to do with when to shoot and when not to. There are times where the spray from the ocean is thick and is sticking to everything. This is not the best time to take your gear out as the misty wet sand will end up not only on your lenses but possibly in your camera. If you really need to shoot in this type of environment my suggestion would be to use one of those ThinkTank Photo Hydrophobias and to put a UV or CP filter on your lens. The Hydrophobia will protect your camera from the fine sand particles and sticky mist that is flying around. The UV or CP filter will protect the front element of your lens and take the brunt of the sticky sand for you. The idea is to protect your camera and lenses at all costs on the beach. I personally do not use a UV filter on any of my lenses. But in a situation where there is a chance of something happening to my lens, I rather risk a $75 filter over a $2,000 Lens. Another tip I brought up was to use a circular polarizer when you are on the beach. This will make the sky and water really pop before you ever take your images into the computer. Remember this if you have a UV filter on your lens and you want to use the CP be sure to remove the UV first. It is never a good thing to stack filters as it will start to one cut down on light and two cut down on the quality of your images. The last quick tip form the video is for those who go from a very cold climate right outside into a humid hot day. What is going to happen is you will get instant condensation on your lens and possibly inside your camera. There is no way to stop this once it starts, your lens will fog up and its possible that your camera will as well. My recommendation is you leave your camera and lenses outside to acclimated to the outside temperate. You want to leave yourself enough time for this equalization to occur because you will not be able to shoot images with a foggy camera or lens. Do not attempt to wipe away the condensation as it will just come right back until it matches the outside temperature. One final though is if you do end up getting sand on your lens you want to be very careful how you clean it. You will not want to try and rub a lens cloth across the front element as there is a possibility that the fine particles of sand will scratch your lens. I think the best think to do is use a rocket air once the same dries. This way you will remove all the particles before you try to physically wipe the lens. All and all be very careful on the beach, sand and sea water are a killer even in small doses. Be sure to clean your gear after being on the beach so it does not have a chance to eat away at it. "How to make a wool felt picture: beach sea" is an easy tutorial that gives you details of all you need to learn to make a picture using the wet felting technique. By placing different coloured layers of wool rovings and silk tops, and different kinds yarns - you can create a great beach and sea felt painting that also has shells and coral effects. At the beginning I show you a few other more detailed felt pictures I have made, giving you an idea of what can be achieved. This project is a great little picture - fairly simple and quick to put together, but at the same time giving you a beautiful sea felt 'painting'. It shows you how a simple design layout can actually be very effective. See how each layer is built up so you get good depth of colour, and then how to put the finishing touches on for the details. All materials you need are listed below. I used local Australian Merino wool for this project, which is such a wonderful, soft fibre that felts easily. If you are new to felt-making and want to learn the basics, visit How to make felt: https://youtu.be/f-onTemjDHg If you're interested in eco-printing, watch the video How to eco-print felt with leaves and dye - full details https://youtu.be/Jzz8D5zZrgk If you've enjoyed this video, please LIKE! and subscribe if you'd like to be notified of other felting, eco-printing and creative videos in future. Thanks! MATERIALS USED IN THIS PROJECT: Bubble wrap Nylon netting or old net curtain Towels Soap, water (soap solution using either soap bar or hand soap) Spray bottle Half a pool noodle Elastic bands Glass with a patterned base if you have one Wool rovings aka tops (I use Australian Merino 18.5 - 20 microns) in various shades of blues/orange and yellows and white Variegated yarn Dimensional wool yarn Silk tops (hand dyed) Vinegar Rinsing bowl, bucket or kitchen sink Video and photos are filmed by me at home and on location in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland of Queensland, Australia. Thousands of refugees die at sea trying to cross over to Europe. Most of them die without any sort of acknowledgement. That was until the picture of Aylan Kurdi was taken. The dead toddler, looking as if he was just asleep, washed ashore on the beach of Bodrum on September 2, 2015. Aylan Kurdi's picture moved everyobdy online. More than the nearly 4000 boat refugees that died at sea in 2015 during the crossing to Europe. How many of us cried when seeing the photo of Aylan Kurdi? His photo went viral on social media and a day later, was all over the newspapers worldwide. Media call the photo iconic and the politicians used the image of the drowned Syrian toddler for their own political interest. How can such a picture become a political stunt? Proponents and opponents of a more generous refugee policy try to embrace Aylan Kurdi as a symbol. What is the meaning of such a picture in the refugee debate? Why did this picture become the symbol of the refugee crisis? Who was inspired by this? And who benefited from that? Google Earth has changed the way that we look at our planet. But these mysterious creatures spotted on google earth might shock you. Before, we depended on pictures and maps to help us navigate the world, all we need to do now is look at Google Earth and get a real-time picture of any location. Interested? Check out other amazing videos about our world and subscribe to the channel! ► http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-Richest ◄ Like: 10 Unbelievable Things Found Deep In The Woods https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd0OXFLNmSw 10 Mysterious Secrets Rooms People Found Inside People's Houses https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ-A2ek90Q8 Now, what is incredible is that these images are updated on a regular basis, so we’re not looking at locations from five or ten years ago. One of the most exciting things that can happen to a community is seeing the Google car driving around. Thanks to Google Earth, we can travel the world from the comfort of our very own home. If you want to see the world but don’t want to save for a plane ticket and the expensive hotel fare, then Google Earth is the answer to your prayers. What is really interesting about Google Earth is that the images captured are authentic and raw. It means that they are not staged. Because of this, Google Earth has inadvertently caught some rather strange things on their cameras. Since millions of people are looking at Google Earth every day, it didn’t take long for the masses to report the weird things that were popping up on their cameras. One of the most popular sightings on Google Earth is mysterious creatures. You would think with all of these cameras looking around the world, we would have spotted Bigfoot by now? Well, maybe we have. Anyway, we are learning more about the animal kingdom thanks to Google, and zoologists and cryptozoologists are having the time of their lives. Instead of wandering aimlessly through the woods, researchers can use Google Earth as a tool to find leads, shortening the discovery time considerably. In this video, we’re going to explore some of the most mysterious creatures we spotted on Google Earth...and the results will shock you! Anything for the 'gram! Terrifying moment a tourist posing for photos on a cliff in Bali gets swept away by a #huge_wave Young #tourist cheated death at popular tourist spot Devil's Tear in #Bali Footage captured the horrifying moment she was almost swept out to sea Near-tragedy prompted Bali locals to issue warning to tourists to take care By KYLIE STEVENS FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA PUBLISHED: 00:57 GMT, 20 March 2019 | UPDATED: 01:02 GMT, 20 March 2019 Dramatic footage has captured the horrifying moment a young tourist posing for photos at a scenic cliff in Bali was almost swept away by a huge wave. The young woman narrowly escaped death when she was almost swept out to sea by a freak wave at Devil's Tear on the Indonesian island of Nusa Lembongan. With her arms outstretched to show off the breathtaking views of the powerful ocean behind her, what first appeared to be a perfect photo opportunity was abruptly cut short when a giant wave crashed into her and knocked her to the ground. Posing for photos, the young tourist was unaware of the near-tragedy that was about to unfold Screams of horror can be heard in the footage as shocked onlookers scramble to safety. Luckily, the woman survived and only sustained several cuts in the terrifying ordeal. She was captured in the footage afterwards, looking drenched and being treated for shock. The incredible footage was posted on Facebook last week and went viral on Chinese social media. A Bali-based Instagram page also shared the shocking footage, along with a photo of the injured woman being carried to safety by a man moments after the incident. 'WARNING WARNING! Please like and share this video so more people understand how dangerous it is to stand this close! Please stop and be careful! You still have an amazing view 20 metres from the edge,' the video was captioned. The horrifying moment the tourist was almost swept out to sea was caught on film Alive but shaken, the damsel in distress was captured being carried to safety The Instagram post attracted 74,856 views and hundreds of comments. 'Scary but people don't respect how powerful the ocean is,' one person commented. Another added: 'She got out of it lightly, that could've been a whole lot worse.' The near-tragedy happened at the same tourist hotspot where a massive wave washed away two bikini-clad holidaymakers posing on a rock earlier this month. The women were swept across the jagged rocks with the water, while other tourists on elevated ground can do nothing but watch on. Devil's Tear is a popular destination for tourists with its tide pools a hot attraction for many visitors. Cliff jumpers also frequent the holiday spot for its scenic and beautiful views.
