„Kitesurfing underneath the Polar Lights“ - that is the dream! I am a professional Kiteboarder travelling the world ever since I can remember. I won the 3 x European Kitesurf Champion and used to compete in the Kite Worldcup for 10 years. Now I am investing most of the time into his sustainable Kiteboard brand „KOLD shapes“. But still, being out on the water to Kite is my very favourite thing to do. This is the first part of the series “Chasing the Northern Lights”. We travelled to Iceland to meet the extraordinary people in the far north, experience their culture and the astonishing beauty of the Island. Lets have a look if I manage to fulfil my big dream of kiting under the Polar Lights! We discovered a perfect flat water kiting spot. Most probably nobody ever kited here before. After kiting among the ice bergs we met the extraordinary guide Gili. He challenged me to take a ice bath... not without explaining him every symbol his body is going to give him, to stop being in the water. I have to pass this test, so that Gili will help me to find the northern lights! Produced by Lüttenshoff [email protected]üttenshoff.de

Our group is an extra-curricular choir that meets for 40 minutes a week during our lunch recess. We have 55 students ranging from Kindergarten to Gr. 7. The students give up their free time to come and sing with us every week. We were accompanied by two Gr. 7 guitar students and two drummers from Grade 5/6. The students love for music is what makes them unique and I am proud to be their music director.

Chasing the Northern Lights as a Family, first time for most of us to brace the sub-zero (almost -20 deg) weather. Weather and the Lights has been so kind to us and let us witness one of our most spectacular encounter of Northern Lights in Tromso with good KP value of 3.6. Landscape is simply breathtaking and reminded us how insignificant our vicissitudes of life are, and to embrace nature more King crabs and whale meat are the food I’ll remember for this trip. ►Watch Episode 2 HERE! http://win.gs/ChasingTheShotE2 After a glorious gap year from the world of competitive surfing, Mick Fanning and Norwegian photographers Emil Sollie and Mats Grimsæth teamed up to photograph something never done before...a night surf session under nature's most radical light show, the Northern Lights. With the high technology and natural phenomena side of things taken care of, Mick just wanted a good old fashioned surf trip, and with plenty of swell, some wild accommodation, and Kleiner and photographer Trevor Moran on-hand to record the results in a country that is incredibly new to surfing, that's exactly what he had. Reading about it doesn’t do it justice. Seeing photos sort of gives you an idea. And hearing about it from someone else just won’t capture the magic that is the Northern Lights. It’s truly an experience of a lifetime and one you have to do and see for yourself. Planning for the trip can get tricky, so here is your cheat sheet: http://tripadv.sr/2gzDH4M

Information about the KP-index you can find here: http://spaceweatherlive.com It is an indication and something the max happens during the day. So you can't control it all the time but if you go with a high KP-index and a clear sky then you have lots of chances to be successful in chasing the northern lights. The Aurora Borealis is amazing to watch and the Corona is the absolute max of the Aurora. Some suggestions for places to stay in Tromso Villa we stayed in the video https://www.airbnb.nl/rooms/28454957 Cheaper option without light pollution but you have to walk around the cabin to watch and you'll stand in the snow (if it is there) https://www.airbnb.nl/rooms/29524808 Amazing spot without light pollution and terrace around https://www.airbnb.nl/rooms/3474894

CHASING THE NORTHERN LIGHTS New ! - THE AURORA BOREALIS What makes people travel half the world to come to Iceland during the winter months? Well, one of the major attractions are the Northern lights -- or the Aurora Borealis -even though there is no guarantee that the travelers will be able to see those elusive lights on their journey. In this short film we follow one of Iceland´s best known photographers, Ragnar Th. Sigurdsson, on his chase of the Northern lights. He takes photographers from all over the world on photographic tours, tells us how to film the lights and in between we see fabulous shots of the lights - as well as graphic explanations of their existence and chance of appearance. So, even if you are not lucky enough to see the Northern Lights your self on this journey, at least you can experience them in our Cinema .... www.thecinema.is

Elyza - Strings For a Queen (Original Mix) http://soundcloud.com/i-am-xan Forecast : http://www.aurora-service.eu/aurora-forecast/ 22 January Tonight's estimated aurora level: Level 3 -- Medium Forecast: Auroral activity should be at medium levels. Weather permitting, aurora displays may be visible overhead or on the horizon in Mosjøen (Norway), Oulu (Finland), Luleå (Sweden) and Reykjavík (Iceland). Comments: We are feeling the affects from a coronal hole high speed stream. There is also a small CME that is forecast to arrive tomorrow morning, which could arrive a little early. It is not a strong CME, but it could spark nice aurora shows at high latitudes (especially combined with residual CH HSS effects), so worth being aware of.

I went on a journey that took me to Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland chasing my dream and ambition to see, experience and photography the magnificent northern lights - the aurora borealis. What followed was the best adventure of my life. After being inspired and amazed by various time-lapse films and videos over the past 6 or 7 years, I have always wanted to and dreamed of making my own travel video and aurora time-lapse video. After being in Iceland at the start of March, I was extremely fortunate to be flying to Tromso, North Norway, on the 17th of March, when one of the strongest aurora storms of the year just happened to be happening. To say I was rendered speeches is a slight understatement. I then saw the aurora in Reine and Solvaer, Lofoten, Norway, - Abisko, Sweden and Kaamanen Finland. The entire journey was possibly the most amazing thing I have ever experienced. As well as being a video featuring the aurora, this video is also a a travel video and is a celebration of stepping out the door and going to a new places, meeting new people and experiencing amazing new things. I am forever inspired to travel, see, experience more in life. Northern Lights Tally: Iceland: 2 Norway: 3 (including 1 from a plane) Sweden: 2 Finland: 10+ (many faint ones) Iceland does not really feature in this video, theres only 4 or 5 clips, thats because I dedicate an entire separate project to Iceland alone, follow the link to see my Iceland video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXys4w0MYwQ

2 weeks in search of aurora borealis in autumn 2018 First a week with a guest which we had to return to the airport after a week ( and include whale watching and Reykjavik visit in our itinerary) ... Then another week on our own. the northern lights happen very often in Iceland but also there is often clouds as many storms come and go... so we actually hunt for clear nightskies and once we found the starry skies we may see some aurora, too. The darker the night, the better. At the beginning of this 2 weeks journey there is still a lot of moonlight but night after night the waning Moon rose later and smaller, till it was no more issue. Sure you can still see aurora if it is very bright but many faint features may get lost in moonlight. For photographs moonlight with aurora is okay if you need landscape illumination but for visual observation it is best to have as little light as possible. You will also see milliions of stars, the milky way, satellites, meteors, deep sky objects, etc. Some people say it's impossible to actively chase the northern lights in Iceland because of the horribly challenging weather... and that it's only a question of luck... well then I'm a really very lucky man... no , seriously... here's 2 random weeks of weather-based aurora hunting in Iceland sept. 26 - oct. 10 , chosen for being in the equinox auroral season and with diminishing moonlight. resulting in some pretty darn good northern lights filmed in realtime and timelapse we had a guest with us for a week who had never been to Iceland and she wanted to also see some whales if possible and do a quick stop in Reykjavik for sightseeing and souvenir shopping. So this somewhat influenced our itinerary but not too much. And after a week we had to return to the airport so she could get on her flight home, while we hit the road for another week of aurora hunting. conclusion: If you know how, almost every night it is possible to find clear skies for at least some part of the night, somewhere in Iceland. It's not always easy, but it's do-able. Much of Iceland may have clouds but some part of Iceland will have clear skies. Storms come and go continously ... And once you find clear skies, there's a pretty darn good chance to see the northern lights. Small or big. Faint or Bright. From nothing to berserk substorm. But don't choose your itinerary ahead of time. Go day-by-day and choose your target based on last-minute weather info ... and a few other tricks. It's not about luck. OK, it's not ONLY about luck. It's a little bit about luck but mostly it's about understanding how the weather works. And acting accordingly. Sometimes being able to stay on spot, sometimes having to drive hundreds of miles. And remember to dine before sunset, as it may happen anytime from dusk to dawn. cameras timelapse Canon EOS 80D realtime video Sony a7s2 daytime video Sony AX53 various lenses used incl.
