Chinese fashion designer Guo Pei brought her latest creation to the Paris Haute Couture Week Spring/Summer 2017 on Wednesday in the French capital. Under the theme of 'legend', Guo's fashion show culminated in the appearance of legendary 85-year-old American supermodel Carmen Dell'Orefice. "We started to know the world from the legends of the past. From this show, I want to interpret that what we do today might be legends in future," said Guo. Guo used complicated embroidery with traditional Chinese craftsmanship to render the Gothic architecture in her gowns, expressing a Chinese designer's imagination about classic western civilization. "I'm excited that she is able to interpret so much of European culture and history from a perspective that is so fresh, and just decadent as well and gorgeous," said an audience member. Guo is the first Asian fashion designer to be invited by the Paris Haute Couture Week. The Spring/Summer 2017 show was the third time that she has attended the Paris event. "As a Chinese designer, Guo has made great achievements on the international stage. We are proud of her," said a Chinese audience member attending the show. Guo's portfolio has presented a new look of Chinese contemporary fashion design which has won her recognition from industry experts. "I'm very happy for her, and for China in general, to be discovered as a real designer, not only a country with fabrics, not only [known for] making fashion. You have great talents and Guo Pei is the first one," said Nicolas Gregorieff, editor-in-chief from OFN TV in Dubai. "Many foreigners told me that it was my work that helped them see different Chinese fashion. I think this is China's soft power," said Guo. So far, I’ve tried 2 types of hanfu. I’ll try more types of hanfu. There are so many types, very beautiful. 1. 齐胸襦裙 Qí xiōng rú qún ( chest-high ruqun, the skirt part starts from chest) 2. 齐腰襦裙 Qí yāo rú qún (waist-high ruqun, the skirt part starts from waist) If you want to purchase real hanfus from original designers and name brands search for the name of shop, not the word“hanfu” on the internet because there’re plenty of fake/knockoff ones and low quality. Many people didn’t know about it and bought. As I know, these original hanfu shops I followed do NOT have English version shops. You may have to ask someone who know about hanfu shops and help you purchase on Chinese written website. I can do a video about it and list what brands of hanfu if you want. There will be affordable hanfu, medium end hanfu and high end hanfus that I like. The hanfu I wear from 衣锦江南. I recommend. Not everything I like, but many. Definitely purchase more from this brand. Looking forward to new designs from them!Winter is coming soon, I will review some gorgeous hanfus (like jiaoling aoqun, liling aoqun, Chinese Style Embroidered Cape etc) that’s for winter. music: I have permission to use it as bg music Worship of Love (爱的供养) (Piano) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjoK0Gdndoc Fake bangs: https://amzn.to/2K1NvTC Equipments, Camera and Gears I Used to Produce This Video: Pink Backdrop https://amzn.to/2N4RroX Backdrop Support https://amzn.to/2x2yOqL Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II https://amzn.to/2H8zCNR Backdrop Support Spring Clamp https://amzn.to/2CCJgvt AmazonBasics 60-Inch Lightweight Tripod with Bag https://amzn.to/2Jp2nuS SanDisk 64GB Class 4 SDXC Flash Memory Card https://amzn.to/2Jhf5fk Editing Program Final Cut Pro Laptop: MacBook Pro Disclaimer: Some links provided above are affiliate links meaning I make a very small commission when you purchase using the links. Creations that fused Chinese and Western elements from designer Taoray Wang graced the stage in New York on Saturday during New York Fashion Week. Wang presented designs from her Taoray Wang Fall/Winter 2016 collection during the show. As one of China’s most celebrated and accomplished designers, Wang is considered to have pioneered women's fashion in China. Her namesake brand, Taoray Wang, aspires to bring her collections to women around the world who appreciate high-end fashion. Some of the show’s attendees thought that Wang’s unique blend of the traditional and the modern was ready for the international stage. "But I think what was so exciting was it completely dispelled any myths about Chinese tailoring or Chinese design. Because it was truly an international collection. You could have shown it anywhere. You were showing in New York, but you could have been showing it in Paris, or Milan, or anywhere you wanted to, because it was a real triumph. Congratulations!" said Simon Collins, dean of Parsons The New School for Design. Wang discussed how she applies her inspirations from Chinese culture to her designs. "In my opinion, Chinese culture tends to express profound meaning without saying anything. Therefore, I don't think it's necessary to flaunt anything in my brand. Your temperament will tell others who you are. The female temperament and exquisite design should not be too overt or flamboyant. The unique temperament of Easterners is to tell everything without words, but it’s difficult for foreigners to do this," said Wang Tao. As a piece of Chinese clothing, qipao is always a classic choice for women. Unlike what most people believe, the qipao isn't a direct successor to the traditional Manchu dress in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It was instead mostly influenced by the West, following the Revolution of 1911. At that time, designers in Shanghai and Beijing reformed the outmoded Manchu dress with modern tailoring. The new patterns soon became popular among female students in Shanghai, and before long, the trend attracted more and more women among the upper classes and in the world of entertainment. Jap/Mandarin/Nat Top Japanese fashion designer Junko Koshino has celebrated her 10th year of fashion in China with a presentation of her latest collections in Beijing. An increasing number of top industry names has been trying to take on the difficult Chinese market, which offers a welcome and lucrative change from Europe. Japan's Junko Koshino has claimed the Chinese catwalks as her own. Soft tones, contrasting textures, bold ideas have become her trade mark. Koshino's latest presentation in Beijing was not only a cross-section from her collections for the next four seasons, but it also was a celebration. Ten years ago, when she was considered only a second rate designer in Japan, she held her first revolutionary fashion show in Beijing. It was revolutionary because at the time China was still dressed in Mao suits and haute couture was an alien term to the average resident. Koshino launched a boutique in Beijing, the first Japanese designer to do so. But after only one year she was forced to close because of lack of trade and because her prices were too high for most of her Chinese customers. Things have taken a turn for the better though. 10 years after she first launched her line in China, the standard of living is rising and the country has seen the emergence of a middle class, willing to pay for haute couture. And Koshino has decided to come back for a second try. SOUNDBITE: (Japanese) "This is not the matter to sell clothes in Paris or in China, I am selling my creation already in Paris in my shop Avenue Montaigne. It's impossible today to ignore Chinese people, one point two (b) billion, and the Chinese market. Now the times have changed, and these people also can buy fashion. For me it's a new concept, designing clothes for the Chinese people will also be a new theme for me" SUPER CAPTION: Junko Koshino, Designer Koshino has also decided to start up production in China, using local skills and materials. She says it will allow her to drop the cost for the customer. The National Garment Association has been eager to help the Japanese designer. It realised that her designs will benefit the domestic industry. SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) "The international exchanges in the area of fashion culture are in quick progress today in China. Through these exchanges we can bring some advanced design ideas into China from other countries and it helps also to widen the views of domestic designers." SUPER CAPTION: Dong Bing Gen, General Manager China National Garment Corporation More and more creators are looking at the Asian market for the fresh challenges it poses compared to Europe. Like Koshino, they believe fashion in Europe has become almost a part of everyday life. But China and its people are no ordinary customers - it's not really style they're after but status. Haute couture allows the Chinese to form an identity, showing that in a country where 10 years ago all were dressed as equals, dreams and fantasy can come true. SOT Zhangqiong: "The colours are fresh and natural, very close to people's daily life, we especially emphasized ecological protection in our fashion." 4. VS Fa Louina catwalk show 5. CA audience 7. SOT Ding Lujun, male model (Mandarin): "The real difference is not the level of the designer or models, I think it is the cultural difference between East and West China, which has very strong Confucianism background may seem to be more introverted than foreigners who are more open. In another respect, I think, we are coming from the same starting point." 8. Final pass CHINA FASHION WEEK China is renowned for its unrivalled claims to be the world's leading clothing manufacturer; however, whilst it is the leading exporter of garments produced for Western designers, it lacks many of its own brand names. At the Beijing International Fashion Festival, launched this week, homegrown designers make a bid to attract an international market. Beijing's International Festival week, running from March 24th to 29th, offers the largest showcase for local designers to show their talents. Chinese born Zhangqiong, 'Fa Louina' emphasized the naturalness and ecological awareness in her designs. For her, like many young Chinese designers , revealing their own cultural heritage is an important element in their design. Male model, Ding Lujun, does not believe Chinese designers are any less creative than their Western counterparts. Through his experience working with domestic and foreign designers he can appreciate the weakness of Chinese fashion as well as its strengths.
