Analysing Parallel Execution Skew - Using Diagnostics / Tuning Pack license

01:20:37
In this final part of the tutorial I show how to analyse Parallel Execution Skew if you happen to have a Diagnostics / Tuning Pack license. Having such a license can be very helpful for doing such an analysis, however the tools provided by Oracle still do have some shortcomings and bugs. These are demonstrated and finally I show how to perform such an analysis using my XPLAN_ASH utility that offers functionality not available out of the box from Oracle. It's advisable to watch the previous parts first: Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YKDns1EyTw Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BAiW6AwhfQ Part 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPzUr9ofQwE If you're interested in reproducing the SQLs analysed here, you can find the scripts as part of the following blog post: http://oracle-randolf.blogspot.de/2014/04/analysing-parallel-execution-skew-data.html

Solving Performance Problems on Oracle DB

28:11
BAs and database developers regularly spend a lot of time tracking down and resolving performance issues on the database servers they are responsible for; it can be very difficult, frustrating, and expensive. Given the complex interactions of applications, users and databases, new performance issues can arise almost as fast as old ones can be addressed. This session will simulate common performance problems on an Oracle server and then both identify those problems and provide effective solutions. Matthew Vegh is a Software Architect at IDERA Software for the DB PowerStudio family of products. He has over 15 years of development experience with a wide range of technologies and a definite preference for database tooling.

Oracle Enterprise Manager: Integration with 3rd Party Systems

18:26
Enterprise Manager has a number of management connectors to integrate with popular 3rd party management systems. The management connectors leverage EM’s connector framework in order to forward event and incident details to 3rd party systems. Besides the management connectors, Enterprise Manager also has a number of Advanced Notification Methods when the use case is more complicated or when there is no management connector available. Enterprise Manager is highly extensible and provides a Connector Framework API which leverages web service calls to create and update events or tickets in 3rd party systems. We provide a Connectors Integration Guide with instructions and examples to build your own connector. See Enterprise manager online documentation for more information: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E73210_01/nav/connectors.htm http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E73210_01/EMADM/GUID-B48F6A84-EE89-498D-94E0-5DE1E7A0CFBC.htm#EMADM9066 http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E73210_01/EMCIG/GUID-FBA700A1-B2F0-4A7B-980C-E4816A21FAD4.htm#EMCIG169 Copyright © 2017 Oracle and/or its affiliates. Masking EBS Suite 12 Cloned Environment using OEM 12c

13:55
Masking Sensitive Data using Enterprise Manager 12c Cloud Control in E-Business Suite Release 12 Cloned Environments: Data masking, also known as data scrambling or data anonymization, is the process of obscuring sensitive information copied from a production database with realistic, scrubbed data based on masking rules, to a test or non-production database. Data masking is ideal for virtually any situation where confidential or regulated data needs to be shared with other non-production users who need access to some of the original data, but not necessarily to every column of every table, especially if the information is protected by government regulations. Examples of non-production users include internal application developers or external business partners such as offshore testing companies, suppliers, or customers. The Oracle E-Business Suite Template for the Data Masking Pack, when applied with the Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Cloud Control Data Masking tool, scrambles Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and sensitive data in a copy of the production system. The resulting database is devoid of specified PII and sensitive information but is still functionally useful for customers to test patches or perform development. Oracle Forms opening slowly Troubleshooting

06:22
https://amzn.to/2Ph2CbI [affiliate link] We are back again with some issues and solutions. Actually one of my friends asked me regarding performance tuning if forms are opening slow. That time I gave him some ideas and promised him that I will back very soon with some more information. There are lots of factors which may impact the applications but there are some work around which can helpful fixed the issues. One more thing I would like to tell, friends I shared my knowledge’s as per my real time experiences and real life experiences. So, there is not like just copying and pasting the stuff. As already I have shared my real life time stories which I have learned from my life. So, let’s start now. Suppose, our forms are opening slow then what things we should be check and how to debug it. I will try to explain here and share my knowledge. I am sure; it will be useful because it’s having been experienced. 1. We should check which forms are opening slowly either any particular form or all forms. 2. If all forms are opening slowly for particular machine then clear the cache and try again. It can be machine speed slow, machine hardware and bandwidth speed. If all forms are opening slow and for all machine then we really need to check below things such as: A. Check whether Trace is enabled or disabled and if it is enabled then kindly disabled it. B. Check the top commands if any resources are consuming high CPU usage. C. Check for all Inactive Sessions if it’s there then kill those sessions. D. Check for deadlocks. E. Every user should close the forms and logout properly. But actually we don’t care. We just close windows tab at a time and left for break :D :P but that’s also impact our EBS internally. F. A programmer if ran any program with infinite loops then this also cause a performance issue. That’s why we need to write any program carefully. If program not properly then it may cause deadlock as also which I have explained it in my previous posts. G. It can also be because of increasing the number of users. Also need to check users have one active session. H. Check for the Performance Pack (Native I/O) is turned on for WLS. And most and always we use this method. If the users have issue for any custom forms then we should follow below steps which are easy and very effective. When he run the program that time you should follow below steps: 1. Enable the Trace file. Login to front-end - Help - Diagnostics - Trace - "Trace with Binds and waits” . Then there will be a trace file generate under below patch: $cd $ORACLE_HOME/admin/$CONTEXT_NAME/udump Now you can run either Trace Analyzer or tkprof as shown below commands: Trace Analyzer command: $sqlplus apps/apps_password SQL START TRCANLZR.sql UDUMP ora-data_ora1919.trc; TKPROF command: $ORACLE_HOME/admin/$CONTEXT_NAME/udump $tkprof ora-data_ora_1919.trc ora-data_ora_1919.txt explain=apps/apps_pwd Hope this may useful and helpful. We will come back again with new troubleshooting and solution as what we should do if forms opening slow after increasing the number of session. For any concerns or suggestions please reach to us either by comment box or contact us @ ora-data.blogspot.com.

Oracle Tuning Tutorial - Long Full Table Scans Part 1 of 5

00:46
Learn SQL Tuning! Tune full table scans! Part 1 of 5 videos in this series. See all 5 tutorials, free, at http://www.skillbuilders.com/tuning-long-full-table-scans Number Eight in the "Performance tuning Guide, Top Ten Mistakes Found in Oracle Systems" Long Full Table Scans is described as follows: "Long full table scans for high-volume or interactive online operations could indicate poor transaction design, missing indexes, or poor SQL optimization. Long table scans, by nature, are I/O intensive and unscalable." Actually, there are many cases where the full table scan is your friend. But whether they are good or bad for the performance of the SQL that invokes them, there may be implications (for better or for worse) for performance of other statements. This is particularly true in 11.2.x, where direct reads are possible for serial scans, and indirect reads are possible for parallel scans. Do you trust the optimizer? The change in behaviour in recent releases may need some investigation, and revisiting older code. As always with a SkillBuilders Tutorial, we shall illustrate the issues and solutions with live demonstrations using release 11g (11.2.0.3). Audience: Operating System Administrators, Storage Administrators, Oracle Administrators and Management responsible for Storage and / or Oracle Databases.

How To Monitor Databases on AWS Using SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer

03:24
To learn more visit: http://bit.ly/SolarWinds_DPA See how SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer identifies SQL Server and Oracle performance issues on the AWS Cloud. Connect with SolarWinds: THWACK IT Community: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SolarWinds Twitter: https://twitter.com/solarwinds LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/company/solarwinds Instagram: http://instagram.com/solarwindsinc/ Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/solarwinds_inc/ TRANSCRIPT: In this video, you will learn how SolarWinds® Database Performance Analyzer or DPA for short, can be easily deployed on Amazon® Web Services, to monitor both RDS® and EC2® database servers. In addition, you will see how to identify and resolve database performance issues having the largest impact on your applications. To deploy DPA in the cloud, simply go to the Amazon marketplace and search for SolarWinds. Click on 'Continue' to deploy the AMI. Once deployed, all the additional configurations are completed through the web browser interface. The next step will be to register your database instances to be monitored by clicking on 'Register DB Instance for Monitoring.' In this case, we have already registered an instance. Let's look at DPA to find and isolate a performance problem. A customer has just called in and complained of slowness in their order entry application. To troubleshoot, first log into DPA and review the main dashboard. This will give us a high-level overview of what is happening in our environment. It’s interesting that the order entry database (PRODOE-RDS) is showing several alarms. Let's take a closer look by drilling into that database. From the trend screen, first look to the Advice tab for any critical or warning statuses. The top 2 SQL statements which are in a critical state are especially interesting. For the first statement, the adviser is telling us that there are high amounts of blocking for this insert statement on January 20th. By drilling into that day in the trend screen, we can see a 24-hour view of the top 15 SQL statements. For our insert statement, we can quickly see that it has been running every hour with a huge spike beginning in the 9:00 am hour. By drilling into that hour, we can view the blockers tab to see who is blocking this SQL statement. Here we can see that process ID of 83 has actually been blocking many other sessions for a long time. Each of these processes have spent over half an hour trying to run this insert statement. Look at the blocker details, we can quickly identify the user and see that they were performing an update to the same table. Now we can begin work on resolving this issue. Let's look at the tuning advice for our second SQL statement in Alarm. In this case, click on the 'More' link to see all of the details about the query and then review the execution plan. Notice that the adviser is suggesting several new indexes. At this point, we can decide to create and test them to see if they help improve performance. To maximize the value that DPA delivers, 24x7 monitoring is recommended. As DPA continues to monitor and collect data, the more comprehensive the analysis becomes especially when identifying trends and anomalies over time. One surprise that many of our customers have learned, is that it's not always the best idea or cost-effective to provision large database servers in the cloud. Instead, start with a small or medium-sized installation, use DPA to monitor performance, then add more resources when you need to. Test drive DPA today, just visit www.solarwinds.com/dpa.
