Sea Glass Carousel
New York City's SeaGlass Carousel opened to the public Thursday. Located in The Battery, the carousel features different types of sea creatures that glow, rotate and go up and down. New York-based WXY handled the architectural and conceptual aspects of the carousel, while stage designer George Tsypin created the artistic vision. The ride is made of fiberglass, steel and LED lights. The lights glowing from within are supposed to mimic the real life bioluminescence of sea creatures. The project took 10 years to create and cost $16 million, half private, half public funding. The carousel costs $5 to ride and is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

10 Strangest Ocean Phenomena You Won't Believe!
Top 10 Amazing things that occur in the deep blue ocean. Creatures, and strange underwater events! Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Description: With water covering 70% of the Earth’s surface, it’s no wonder that oceans yield spectacular species, with scientists finding up to four new species a day, according to the World Register of Marine Species, or WoRMS. They add that there are also approximately 228,450 marine species known to scientists with some two million more multi-celled marine organisms still to be discovered. The ocean is also home to other phenomena including giant beached whales, bioluminescence – when water appears to be glowing - and the yearly migration of millions of red sea crabs on Christmas Island, stopping drivers and pedestrians in their tracks. Seahorses continue to fascinate people time and again, not only for their combination of a norse-like head with S-shaped bodies but also because of what’s seemingly a reversal of roles in the natural world i.e. the male having to do the “pushing.” Rogue waves are an amazing phenomena that could have deadly consequences too, engulfing ships and fishermen in its wake. Short-tail stingrays are also considered to be dangerous. The death of Australian wildlife expert Steve Irwin, “The Crocodile Hunter,” by a sting ray brought the species to prominence in 2006 but in reality, that was a freak occurrence that happens on extremely rare occasions. Sea pens and glass squid appear to go hand in hand, although neither are what they seem. Underwater, famed French marine explorer Jacque Costeau once said “When one man, for whatever reason, has the opportunity to lead an extraordinary life, he has no right to keep it to himself.” Such is the inspiration by marine biologists, sailors, and regular people alike to continue to explore life under water. Despite man’s advancements of NASA and seeking life on other planets, it’s seeing what’s under the earth’s surface where marine life will help us truly understand our human world. Glass Creatures - "Sea of Trees" [OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO]
We are proud to present our first single "Sea of Trees" to the masses! This is the story of the Aokigahara forest in Japan and the "yūrei" (the ghost of the dead in Japanese Mythology) that are said to reside within. Its surreal landscape has internationally become one of the most prevailing destinations of suicide, statistically up to 105 documented suicides a year. This song is to honor those who made the decision to cease living all around the world and to raise awareness that someone is always listening. 19 INCREDIBLY Colorful Sea Creatures
From Nemo, the clownfish, to the beautiful and elusive Blue Sea Slug, these are 19 INCREDIBLY Colorful Sea Creatures ! 8. Blue Tang -- Undersea creatures seem to look really cool in blue … and this one is no exception. The Blue Tang shows off some amazing blue coloration complemented by bold black markings. It almost sounds like a fashion shows, right? These fish are usually found in Indo-Pacific waters and are actually bright yellow when they’re younger. The blue and black colors show up at their final phase of development. 7. Coral -- Is that a brain at the bottom of the ocean? No … but it is a brain coral … and just an example of the wide ranging variety of living coral and coral reefs, some of which are thought to have started growing over 50 million years ago. Contrary to some beliefs, coral are animals, not plants … they’re actually related to anemones and jellyfish. The reefs formed by coral provide housing for thousands of marine species, giving them a place to find food, reproduce, and keep them safe until they’re mature enough to venture into the deeper ocean. Did you know coral reef plants and animals have proven important to the development of new medicines to treat cancer, Alzheimer's and heart disease? But even with all those advantages, human activity is threatening almost 60 percent of the world’s coral reefs. 6. Flower Hat Jellyfish -- This rare species of jellyfish is a rare species usually found in the waters of southern japan, Argentina and Brazil. It can grow to a half-foot in diameter, and is easily recognizable by its translucent bell, which is pinstriped with opaque bands. Those coiling tentacles adhere to the rim while not in use. Like many pretty looking things, this jelly carries a sting … but even though it’s painful, it’s non-lethal to humans … the worst you’d get is a rash. 5. Blue Sea Slug -- We couldn’t find a lot of information on this critter. From what we’ve seen, it’s often identified as a Blue Sea Slug … but that sounds like a pedestrian name for such a colorful creature. You can see the brilliant blue coloration in this photo … the animal almost looks like an alien life form with the two antennae sticking up. We’re guessing it might be a Nudibranch (new-di-brank). Those mollusks are noted for their striking colors, and there are more than 2,300 validated species scattered about the world. Can you confirm that? Let us know in the comments! 4. Mantis Shrimp -- They’re one of the most colorful forms of marine life, but don’t be fooled. They’re also known as ferocious undersea predators that possess, pound for pound, one of the most powerful punches on the planet. Punching with speed equal to a .22 caliber bullet, the Mantis Shrimp has not only broken shells of its prey … it’s also broken through aquarium glass. Punching at that velocity makes water vaporize and explode with a sharp bang, a flash of light and extremely high heat, all of which is felt by the victim as an additional blast. Not bad for an animal that averages less than four inches long. 3. Juvenile Emperor Angelfish -- Their coloration will change with age … but while they’re young, they exhibit these amazing displays of swirling dark blue, white and electric blue. It almost look hypnotic, right? Well, the fish keeps these distinct patterns until it reaches maturity, which usually takes around 4 years. Then the fish develops blue and yellow stripes, and black shading around its eyes. 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphiprioninae Clownfish -- Did you recognize them from “Finding Nemo”? Known as one of the most brightly colored fish in the world, their bodies have distinctive white striping with colors that can vary from red, orange or yellow. They’re also known as anemone fishes, because of their mutually beneficial relationship with sea anemones. The toxic tentacles of the anemones protect clownfish from predators. And the fast movement of the fishes helps anemones find food and increase circulation. 1. The Mandarinfish -- Also known as the “Mandarin Dragonet” it swims in the Pacific reefs … but it’s less than 3 inches long so it can be difficult to see in the wild. As you might guess, this fish is highly sought after in the aquarium trade … but they’re considered extremely difficult to their strict eating habits. Some people think the Mandarinfish might be the most beautiful fish in the world … would you agree? to Epic Wildlife http://goo.gl/6rzs5u Let's Connect -- http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ -- http://www.facebook.com/epicadamwildlife -- http://www.twitter.com/epicwildlife -- http://gplus.to/epicwildlife

Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World - Things to Do in Bangkok
Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World (formerly, Siam Ocean World) is one of the world's largest aquariums. It was a pretty gloomy day out so I thought this would be a fun activity for the afternoon. Plus, it's really easy to get to on the BTS, just steps from Siam station. Here, I got to experience an amazing variety of aquatic life including sharks, stingrays, penguins, sea horses, jellyfish and tropical fish from up close. One of Sea Life Ocean World’s highlights is the Ocean Tunnel. This is the closest feeling to actually walking on the ocean floor. Here you are completely surrounded by large sharks, stingrays and schools of tropical fish. Penguins! I spent a good chunk of my time watching these little guys jump, dive and swim through the water. They were so cool. And, feeding time was fun to watch. There are 2 additional options for getting even closer to the action. The first if diving with sharks. Honestly, probably not worth the $200 fee. So an alternative option is the ‘ocean walker’ trip – where you’ll still get up close to many species of aquatic life including rays and sharks walking in the underwater tunnel. But for half the price. There’s also the option of taking a ride on a Glass Bottom Boat Here, you can get up close and personal with sharks, stingrays and a great variety of fish as a member of staff points out the various species. There was an extra charge for this. But nothing that would break the bank. Restoring Blaschka Sea Creatures in Glass
Many years before they were commissioned by Harvard University to make the Glass Flowers, father and son artists Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka meticulously shaped glass into lifelike models of marine and terrestrial animals. Renowned for their beauty and exacting detail, the Blaschka invertebrate models were commissioned by universities and museums throughout world during the nineteenth century. The exhibit is the culmination of the Museum of Comparative Zoology's near completion of an eight-year project to curate, clean, and repair all of its 430 invertebrate models. Together with Harvard's Ware Collection of Glass Models of Plants, with over 3,200 specimens on display, these restored glass animals now comprise the largest Blaschka collection on display in the world.

Right now we have two gentlemen blowing some glass by hand. And what we are doing here is seeing how different forms get shaped and cut. You can see things changing, along the way. You can see a delicate-delicate partnership. One of which they have to work closely together, coordinating everything they make. This is just for one piece so imagine… This is for a figurine they are making. You can see there its tail. No two are alike. This is because everything gets done one at a time- “Uno Alla Volta.” A very long process. One has to have patience and at the same time, talent and a passion for the business. It’s a lost tradition. However, one authentic with Murano." Life Is Like Sea-Glass...
July 4, 2018 This past weekend Dave and I celebrated out 28th wedding anniversary – it’s pretty crazy how time flies by so fast! On our anniversary we found ourselves enjoying the beautiful waves of the Pacific Ocean while beach combing for sea-glass. As we collected our tumbled treasures, I realized that marriage (and life in general) is very much like sea-glass; it starts out all sharp and new, with lots of its edgy goals and sharp points of view. But over time, life happens….we get tumbled around a bit by life. Our sharp edges begin to soften and become smooth. We learn to go with the flow and learn from our rough and tumble times. While on the beach, I was inspired to make this video for you. Enjoy this quick relaxation break – you deserve it! Namaste ---- Karen www.ShamaMama.com
