Heart - Magic man 1976
Cold late night so long ago
When I was not so strong you know
A pretty man came to me
Never seen eyes so blue
You know I could not run away
It seemed we'd seen each other in a dream
It seemed like he knew me
He looked right through me, yeah
"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"You don't have to love me yet
Let's get high awhile
But try to understand
Try to understand
Try try try to understand
I'm a magic man."
Winter nights we sang in tune
Played inside the months of moon
Never think of never
Let this spell last forever
Summer lover passed to fall
Tried to realize it all
Mama says she's worried
Growing up in a hurry, ooh yeah
"Come on home, girl" mama cried on the phone
"Too soon to lose my baby
and my girl should be at home!"
"But try to understand, try to understand
Try try try to understand
He's a magic man, mama, ooh yeah
(Instrumental)
"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"I cast my spell of love on you, a woman from a child!
But try to understand, ooh try to understand,
Oh yeah try to understand
Try try try to understand ooh no no no no
He's a magic man!" oooh yeah

New members of the group include Scott Olson on guitar (longtime guitarist Howard Leese is no longer with the band), Mike Inez on bass guitar, Ben Smith on drums and Tom Kellock on keyboards.

Elliot Gould of Render Edge Media sits down with Roger Fisher, Heart's original lead guitarist, for three days of interviews. Roger discusses a wide range of topics, including the collaboration with his brother, Michael Fisher, the original Magic Man, on the writing and recording of his latest album, "Heart of the Blues," his love of designing and building guitars, how some of Heart's most iconic songs were written, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction concert.
In this video, Roger shows how he tunes his guitar to achieve the special sound required to re-create the lead and rhythm guitar for Heart's "Magic Man."

Heart in performance at Montreal's Bell Centre; March 25, 2013. The final stop of their cross Canada tour.
Tuneage: "Magic Man". The single was released in Canada in June 1975, and in America in 1976 as the second single from the band's debut album Dreamboat Annie. Written by Ann and Nancy Wilson, the song is sung from the viewpoint of a young girl who is being seduced by an older man (referred to as a Magic Man), much to the chagrin of her mother, who calls and begs the girl to come home. In an interview, Ann Wilson revealed the "Magic Man" was her then boyfriend, band manager Michael Fisher, and part of the song was an autobiographical tale of the beginnings of their relationship.
According to Ann and Nancy Wilson's autobiography Kicking and Dreaming, this hit climbed the charts thanks to a radio publicist who offered DJs drugs and prostitutes in return for airplay. "When we were out of the way he'd pass the DJ a gram of cocaine," recalled Nancy, "or the number of a hooker and say, 'She's yours, on Heart.'"
"Magic Man" became Heart's first Top 10 hit in the United States, peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The 2013 band:
Ann Wilson: Flute, Guitar, Guitar (Acoustic), Vocals.
Nancy Wilson Guitar (12 String), Guitar (Acoustic), Guitar (Electric), Vocals.

Combining a blend of hard rock riffs and lush, driving harmonies, Heart emerged from the Seattle music culture with one of the most original sounds of the 1970s.
Behind Ann Wilson’s powerhouse voice, one of the best in rock, and Nancy Wilson’s inspired guitar playing, guitarist Roger Fisher, bassist Steve Fossen, guitarist/keyboard player Howard Leese and drummer Michael DeRosier, Heart recorded a series of albums that stand as the best mix of hard rock and folk rock of their era: Dreamboat Annie, Little Queen, Dog And Butterfly and Bebe Le Strange.
Their hit singles remain standards of rock radio: “Magic Man,” “Crazy on You,” “Straight On” and “Barracuda.” Heart has released six Top 10 albums and 20 Top 40 singles. Ann and Nancy Wilson were pioneers becoming the first women to front a hard rock band. Our vocalists for this project are Jessica Mckinney, covering Ann's parts & Liz Barber covering harmonies. LLB is glad to bring to you the music of Heart for our 16th episode!

Here is a look at Heart's Magic Man on guitar. It was very awkward to play the leads, and I knew something had to be up. I have since learned that Roger Fisher tuned the high E and B strings each up 3 frets to a G and D respectively. That indeed makes some of the licks simpler to play, but I'd rather not bust a string. So anyway here it is, in STANDARD tuning.

I did NOT make this instrumental. Lyrics:
Cold late night so long ago,
When I was not so strong, you know,
A pretty man came to me,
Never seen eyes so blue,
I could not run away,
It seemed we'd seen each other in a dream,
It seemed like he knew me,
He looked right through me,
"Come on, homegirl" he said with a smile,
"You don't have to love me yet,
Let's get high a while,
But try to understand,
Try to understand,
Try, try, try to understand,
I'm a magic man,"
Winter nights we sang in tune,
Played inside the months of moon,
Never think of never,
Let this spell last forever,
Summer lover passed to fall,
Tried to realize it all,
Mama says she's a worried,
Growing up in a hurry,
"Come on home, girl" mama cried on the phone,
"Too soon to lose my baby yet, my girl should be at home!"
"But try to understand, try to understand,
Try, try, try to understand,
He's a magic man, mama,
He's a magic man,"
"Come on, homegirl" he said with a smile,
"I cast my spell of love on you a woman from a child!
But try to understand, try to understand,
I'm a magic man!"

Crazy On You
We may still have time
We might still get by
Every time I think about it I want to cry
With the bombs and the devils
And the kids keep coming
Nowhere to breathe easy...no time to be young
But I tell myself that I'm doing alright
There's nothing left to do tonight but go crazy on you
My love is the evening breeze touching your skin
The gentle sweet singing of leaves in the wind
The whisper that calls, after you in the night
And kisses your ear in the early light
You don't need to wonder, you're doing fine
And my love, the pleasure's mine
Let me go crazy on you
Wild man's world is crying in pain
What you gonna do when everybody's insane
So afraid of fortune, so afraid of you
What you gonna do?
Crazy on you, let me go crazy on you
I was willow last night in my dream
I bent down over a clear running stream
I sang you the song that i heard up above
And you keep me alive with your sweet flowing love
Crazy, crazy on you,
Let me go crazy, crazy on you
