How to design a successful logo? How to build a famous brand for your business? Some of the most well-known logos in the world were purposefully designed to indicate something much more than simple beauty. In fact, it seems that in some cases, every line, curve, and color has meaning behind it. Adidas, Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola, Toyota… We see these famous brands everywhere but never consider what their logos exactly mean. Curious to know the secret? Watch the 16 famous logos with a hidden meaning you've never noticed. #logomeaning #logosecret # Hyundai 0:33 The letter ’Н’ symbolizes two people – a client and a representative of the company – shaking hands. Adidas 0:52 The current logo is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. This symbolizes a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges that all sportsmen have to overcome day after day. Apple 1:21 Rob Janoff, the designer who came up with the world-famous Apple company logo, explained his idea in one of his interviews. He bought a bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple. Vaio 1:58 The first two letters of the Vaio logo symbolize an analogue wave. The last two are similar to the numbers 1 and 0 — that is, symbols of a digital signal. Amazon 2:14 The orange arrow is similar to a smile because the company wants its customers to be satisfied. The arrow is also stretched between the letters ’A’ and ’Z’, in a hint that the company sells absolutely every product you can imagine. Baskin Robbins 2:40 The pink-colored parts of the "BR" section make up the number 31, which is how many ice cream flavors Baskin Robbins used to famously sell. Toyota 2:56 The logo represents a stylized image of a needle eye with a thread passing through it. This is a hint at the company’s past – they used to produce weaving machines. Continental 3:28 Continental, a famous car tire producer, has a logo in which the first two letters depict a car wheel. Formula 1 3:41 If you look carefully at the white space between the letter ’F’ and the red stripes, you can see the number 1. Pinterest 3:59 On Pinterest, people collect images they like from across the Internet and ’pin’ them to their online boards. That’s why the image of a pin is hidden in the letter P. Beats 4:17 Beats, an audio equipment producer based in the USA, uses a logo in which the letter ’B’ looks like headphones on a person’s head. Toblerone 4:32 The famous chocolate company based in Bern, Switzerland, has a silhouette of a bear in its logo. That's because Bern is sometimes called a city of bears. BMW 4:55 The logo is simply a part of the Bavarian flag, the area of Germany where the company originated. LG 5:18 The logo is a stylized image of a person’s face. According to the company, this represents its aspiration to have human relations with their customers. Evernote 5:34 The corner of the elephant’s ear is folded over in a similar way how people fold the corner of a page to make notes. Coca-Cola 5:57 In the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, you can see the Danish flag. It’s purely a coincidence. Nevertheless, Coca-Cola has used this as part of its marketing campaigns in the Scandinavian country. If you’ve enjoyed this video, hit that thumbs up button! A logo is the face of a brand, and we often buy this or that item because its “face” is well-known to the world. Come on, don’t deny it! As for the best logos, they convey a hidden subtext that represents the company’s values, goals, or history. So, here are 12 world-famous logos with a secret hidden meaning! TIMESTAMPS: Airbnb 1:15 TripAdvisor 2:02 MasterCard 2:55 Dell 3:53 National Geographic 4:26 Vodafone 5:08 Haribo 6:00 Subway 6:37 DC Comics 7:29 Mozilla Firefox 8:15 Bacardi 9:09 Orbit 9:42 Preview photo credit: Firefox logo used since June 2013 (version 23.0 Beta), Previous version of logo, used since Firefox 3.5: By © The Mozilla Foundation, CC BY 3.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/deed.es, https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Mozilla_Firefox_logo_2013.svg Animation is created by Bright Side Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY: - The logo contains 4 simple yet meaningful elements: the head of a person that represents a user of their site, the sign for a location on a map to show where the house or apartment is, a heart to represent love, and, finally, all of these symbols combine to make the letter “A” for Airbnb. - TripAdvisor’s logo is an owl, which symbolizes wisdom and knowledge. As for its different-colored eyes, they show that each traveler has a choice to make: green means go, and red means no! - The international payment system we all know these days as MasterCard was established in 1966 as Interbank. Red stands for bravery, passion, and for doing what makes you feel joy. The bright yellow symbolizes prosperity. - Ever wonder why the “E” in Dell’s logo is all askew? Well, the founder of the company, Michael Dell, wanted to convey the meaning of the popular idiom “turn the world on its ear,” which means to change something in an exciting way. - National Geographic, the popular magazine and channel that broadcasts documentaries in 171 countries, made its logo a yellow rectangle. The rectangle symbolizes a door that’s open to the world of knowledge about nature, science, and culture. Yellow and bright just like the Sun. - Vodafone is a British mobile provider that operates mostly in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania. The company chose a couple of mysterious things for its logo, which looks sort of like an earphone. The designers wanted to show that, with Vodafone, users can talk to each other any time they want. - The Haribo’s founder combined the first 2 letters of his first and last name, Hans Riegel, and added the first 2 letters of his hometown of Bonn. - The arrows on the first and last letters of the Subway logo are there for a reason: they actually stand for the entrance and exit to the subway. This way, the company demonstrates that, with Subway, you can eat on the go, like in the actual subway! - Jim Lee revealed what the new logo of DC Comics actually means. The nooks and angles are meant to evoke the Superman “S” symbol, the Wonder Woman “WW” emblem, and the Bat-Signal. - “Firefox” is the English translation of the Chinese name for a red panda. This way, the company wanted to demonstrate how unique they are because this is a very rare kind of panda that’s actually endangered. - The legend goes that the wife of Bacardi’s co-founder saw a bat in their liquor factory. But instead of getting scared and running for the exit, he took it as a sign and decided that this was exactly what should be on the logo. - If you look closely at the Orbit's logo, you’ll notice that the capital “O” is split into 2 parts: one dark and one light. In the background you can see the image of an orbit. So, it’s clear that the “O” symbolizes day and night and a planet revolving around the Sun. Welcome to RCM's video production tips, hints and information. In this edition we delve deeper into logo animations...what they are, their benefits and our great package to deliver and incorporate them in your next video production. First let's start with "what is a logo animation"? We all know what a logo is right?...it's an image that represents a company, business or organisation. Sometimes it's made up of an icon, sometimes it's just text like the business name and sometimes it's a combination...but what a logo does is convey the company, business or organisations image as well as delivering a simple branding message. I bet you can imagine what the Specsavers logo looks like, KFC logo, Telstra and Toyota...these are logos that we know but these are stagnant logos with no movement, purely a print....now a logo animation is taking that existing still image and animating it to bring the logo to life. Classic examples that we will all know are the wonderful logo animations from the movie studios...think about the Pixar logo animation with the jumping lamp or Columbia Studios logo animation featuring the lady holding up the torch or what about the DreamWorks logo animation with the boy fishing from the moon. We have trust in those familiar animations and the studios they represent. These are logo animations that when we're sitting in the cinema they fill our hearts with anticipation and with comfort as we know we are in good hands and we know what's going to follow. Next time you're watching television take note at the end of programs and commercials, this is where you will see other logo animations. Logo animations can be simple or complex...but either delivers the desired results. What are these results and why do small and large companies, business and organisation animate their logos? Well animating your logo brings your brand to life, it reinforces and builds on your image...but most importantly a logo animation tells the viewer that your brand is worth investing in! It says that your company, business or organisation is worthy of the attention, that it is an asset and holds credibility. A logo animation will take the perception of your company to a higher level; they'll deliver personality and when used to open videos with, will set the standard for what's to come. Investing in your brand should be ongoing...it's vital for any business to keep building credibility and to differentiate....its why RCM does these videos! Your clients will make their decisions based on how closely aligned their standards and values are with yours and by animating your logo you can deliver that credibility and stature to your brand...this is what a still logo cannot deliver. At RCM we design and create logo animations that are incorporated in to our video productions. We showcase logo animations at the start and end of a video, the crucial moments. RCM create 2D and 3D logo animations and as mentioned we have a package that include a logo animation, a background animation and an animating title strap. The title strap is used to introduce people appearing on camera...like this and the background animation is used under title pages, lists and call to action pages...like this. Some of our clients love their animations so much they use them as their websites open page with a "click the logo to enter site" link, our animations have been built into email signatures and even shown on a loop at office receptions and trade shows... Logo animations help you explain your promise, your standards, your credibility...it's the shining example that will motivate clients to join forces with you and make your cause their own... I hope this information was useful and of course if you need further advice see our website at www.RockmansCreativeMedia.com.au or contact us on Melbourne 9500 0053. Till next time....that a wrap!

Each generation yields a new breed of customers who perceive the world in a different light than the ones before them. Therefore, brands must ensure that the reworked logo not only matches the interests of new and old consumers but also portrays the same message and principles of the brand as the previous logo did. 2017 proved to be that very year where a number of well-known brands decided to give their logos a little bit of a makeover. Here is a list of some of the most prominent logo designs in 2017... Music: A DAY OFF - Nicolai Heidlas Music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOFG-G_GpGk&t=4s

How do you design a brand identity system? How do you develop a logo? What is the packaging design process? How do you come up with ideas and explore options? Today's episode features The Futur's graphic designer, Min Hye Cho, who shares her step by step process to re-design the Energizer Battery packaging. Chris Do sits down with Min to review her design work and talk about her process. Here's Min's process for this assignment: Brainstorming prompts: Before designing anything, Min finds an inspiring image and uses it to come up with words or prompts that will guide her designs. The logo wordmark: Using the prompts as a guide, she chooses a typeface and starts sketching shapes, icons, and images that come to mind. Going deep with exploration, trying lots of ideas. She then chooses the 3 best wordmarks, refines them and adds color. The packaging: She again goes into exploration mode and creates lots of different packaging designs. Exhausting many design options. Again, she narrows it down to the best ones and refines them into actual size mockups. At this point, she is done and ready to present her work to the boss or client. #GraphicDesign #LogoDesign #PackagingDesign === 👉Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vB9zoP 👉See our main channel: https://goo.gl/F2AEbk #TheFutur Want a deeper dive? American cars have had a long and rich tradition both in the United States and throughout the world. Famous for their muscle vehicles, but also for the classic ones, the American made cars list boasts on 3 companies and at least 9 important companies that have made history over the years. There were roughly 1800 American car brands between 1896 to 1930 but just few were able to survive the tough competitive market. Hence just a handful of auto manufacturers opened after that period in America, that are still well known today.

Branding Misfires II: 2015-2017 Ken Steele completes his review of 12 higher ed rebrands in the past 2 years that sparked a backlash from campus stakeholders and alumni. In part 1, we looked at half a dozen new visual identities that caused outrage, either because they were too crazy creative or deadly dull. https://youtu.be/khrMeE_hngs But there were also some competent rebrands that nonetheless met remarkable opposition, often because stakeholders were too emotionally attached to what they had before: Western Sydney University (Australia): When its name changed from “The University of Western Sydney” in 2015, WSU also abandoned its 13-year-old logo, which featured a “bluebird” icon. Although the former logo felt pretty cool and corporate, students nonetheless had become emotionally attached to the bluebird, and launched a #SaveTheBlueBird campaign on Twitter. The new identity was more contemporary, and pretty conventional: a deep red shield with the letter “W”. Comedian Aamer Rahman mocked the expenditure for student audiences, but the administration stuck with the new look. Aamer Rahman - https://youtu.be/5Bg90nkRL3c Penn State University (PA): When one of the largest universities in the world changes its visual identity, plenty of people take notice! Penn State, with almost 100,000 students on more than 20 campuses, had been using the same brand identity for 30 years when it finally launched a rebrand in 2015. The new look was much cleaner, focusing the shield on just the head of the “Nittany Lion” shrine, and using a modern slab-serif typeface. The illustration was fairly realistic, of the stone shrine itself – but as a result the lion’s eyes seemed blank, unblinking, almost zombie-like. Football fans were relentless in attacking it, and a petition on change.org attracted about 4,000 signatures – but remember, that’s just 4% of Penn State’s enrolment. They rightly stayed the course. Berklee College of Music (MA): Berklee’s former logo was barely a logo at all: simple type in the corner of a red block. It didn’t reproduce well at small sizes, and in 2015 Berklee unveiled a rebrand that focused on the single word, “Berklee”, with a new icon (the “natural” notation). 500 students signed a petition objecting to the new identity, and particularly the loss of the word “College” – about 10% of the institution’s enrolment. The administration ignored the minority opinion. University of Leicester (UK): The former shield, in use for 20 years, was an awful orange colour, with intricate details and a Latin motto, and used a very dated typeface for the wordmark. Anything would have been an improvement, and although some students objected, the new identity features more sophisticated typography and understated colours. Linköping University (Sweden): Since its founding in 1975, Linköping (pron. “Lingschoping”) has used a variation of its official seal as its visual identity. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, LU hired Stockhold design firm Futurniture (who yes, does some work for IKEA) to develop a radically new brand. The result was a bright blue block containing bold initials, “li.u” – much to the chagrin of almost 5,000 students, who expected something more conventional. Even though the students collected alternatives and held a poll on their Facebook page, the administration stuck with the bold new look. Wheaton College (MA): This private liberal arts college near Boston is almost 200 years old, so students and alumni were naturally shocked when it unveiled an industrial-looking new identity in early 2017. The look does little to convey the desired brand attributes (forward-looking, inclusive, personal). It’s cold, impersonal, and reflects a design aesthetic from the 1970s. A change.org petition attracted 1,200 signatures – 75% of the school’s enrolment! Unfortunately, the administration is stubbornly planning to launch this ugly new identity in August 2017. Wright State University (OH): After 20 years, WSU revised their cherished logo featuring the Wright brothers and their biplane. The designers tried to simplify it, moving to some sans-serif type, eliminating the shadows, and darkened the colours – so far, so good. But they also eliminated the figure of Wilbur Wright, and added some inexplicable swooshes that made it look like the plane was tumbling out of control. And from then on, the rebrand tumbled out of control too. Despite spending a reported $250,000 on the graphic design alone, administration abandoned the rebrand and stuck with their former logo. So to sum up: you can’t please everybody when it comes to a university rebrand. You can expect 20-30% of your stakeholders to express displeasure. If it’s less than 10%, you’re doing really well! If it’s more than 70%, you should probably reconsider the design. Check out other Ten with Ken episodes about Branding at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLodJ8ParJmYWtpFIkmuPeZ1h2SDI5LI5Y

Need a silly t-shirt to surprise a friend with? Printing it yourself is the cheapest way to make that happen! Kids can even get the hang of printing VERY quickly and be apart of the entire process, which is awesome! Here are a few things that I didn’t cover in the video that I think will give you better results. Use high dpi screens. These provide finer detail, and have significantly improved my prints. Have someone hold your frame so that you can use two hands to evenly pull the squeegee. If you don’t have access to a dryer for heat setting, you can cover the print with a piece of paper and iron it for a minute. If using a dark material, look for an ink labeled “super opaque”. You’ll get a brighter colored print. You’ll need a screen and squeegee to start. Also, some photo emulsion for screen printing. Add water to the sensitizer, then mix it with the emulsion. Mix thoroughly until it’s an even green color. Pour just a small amount onto the screen. Use the squeegee to spread it evenly on both sides of the screen. Try to get even and full coverage by alternating directions and sides. Dry the emulsion in front of a fan and IN THE DARK. After it’s dry, quickly lay your artwork, backwards, on the back of the screen. You can print your art on transparencies at most office supplies stores or copy centers. Tape the art in place, then lay on a piece of glass to hold it against the screen. Apply a very bright light for 30-45 minutes. You can also use sunlight, but the time may vary depending on cloud cover and placement. The areas covered by your art do not get exposed when you remove the transparency. Use a light spray and soft toothbrush to wash out the unexposed emulsion. Be careful not to use too much force when spraying it out or you will remove emulsion around your design as well. Use painters tape to mask any areas that you don’t want to print yet, or areas where the emulsion isn’t intact. Layout your shirt on smooth, flat surface and remove wrinkles. Place your design where you want it to be printed. Lay a thick bead of ink above the art, extended past both ends. Be sure to add extra ink above large areas to be printed. Even though I’m working alone here, you’ll have better luck to have someone hold your screen, then use two hands to evenly pull the squeegee fully across your screen. Remove the screen and wash out all of the ink before it dries. After the ink dries, run your shirt through a clothes dryer for 5 minutes to heat set the print. The screens can be reused by cleaning them with emulsion remover. Spread a small amount across both sides of the screen. Then use a hose to wash out the emulsion until the screen is clean. Dark inks will stain the material of the screen, but this will not affect future prints. Just make sure to remove all of the emulsion. Second channel: bit.ly/iltms-2
