EPIC USA Road Trip! (2,361 miles, 21 Days, 7 States and 6 Nat'l Parks) We did it. We quit our jobs, moved out of our apartment, sold all our belongings and left Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, and off to the USA we went for our Great American Road Trip, the first part of our 8-month trip around the world. For the first leg of our big adventure, we started with a 3 week-long Epic West Coast USA road trip and tried to hit all of the US National Parks we could. After our direct flight from DXB to Seattle with Emirates, and more than 14 hours in the air - which honestly, wasn’t enough to catch up on all the movies/series Emirates' ICE offers! - , we landed in Seattle Airport and went to pick up our trusty car at Hertz. The Emirates direct flight from Dubai to Seattle is a dream because it leaves Dubai at 8:35am and lands in Seattle at 10:55am the same day, wasting no time and allowing for a good nights sleep before exploring all you can in the US. We had no idea that Emirates flew this route but were thankful to find it as it proved to be the perfect launching city from which to start a great American road trip - and the stunning nature, ocean, and scenery was the perfect beginning to our amazing adventure down the west coast of the USA. Now that we'd sorted the flight and arrived to Seattle, we had to find our home for the next three weeks - time to get our rental car! Since we registered in advance for the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards loyalty programme, we didn’t have to queue and could directly select our car on the spot at the airport in Seattle - with an additional driver for free! #WIN This was a huge benefit after a long flight and allowed us to get right on the road. It's the little things like this that make such a huge difference on a trip like this. Tip: Register for the Hertz Gold Plus loyalty programme to benefit from awesome features too! Seattle, Washington Once we picked up our car, we headed directly towards Seattle city center for a quick visit to Pike’s Market on Elliott Bay, one of the oldest in the USA, where you can find fresh produce, independent businesses, the most amazing seafood in the US, and specialty foods. We then had to stop for a coffee at the world’s oldest operating Starbucks on Pike Place, a classic! (we're so white...) After this quick visit to Seattle, we had to continue towards Portland, where we spent the first two nights of our West Coast USA road trip - in one of the funkiest cities in America. Portland, Oregon We woke up early on the second day (thanks, jet lag!) and went for a morning workout in Forest Park, which ended up being absolutely beautiful and we finally could breathe real oxygen and see greenery and trees, which we missed so much living in the desert for so many years! Forest Park is the largest urban park in the US and goes on forever with endless amazing hikes and trails. After a lunch at Whole Foods (you know it), we visited Powell’s Books, the oldest independent bookstore in the world. We could have stayed for hours - the bookstore is huge, has all genres imaginable and is such a cozy place! Crater Lake, Oregon On the way from Oregon to California, we made a stop at Crater Lake, and we’re thrilled we did! Upon entering the Crater Lake National Park, we bought the $80 America the Beautiful pass, which allows you unlimited entry to all National Parks in the USA for a year - super worth it if you’re doing a West Coast USARoad Trip as each individual National Park pass is around $20-$30. Redwood National Park, California While driving down from Oregon into California, we stopped by Redwood National Park, as Jeff had never visited - even though he lived in California for years! San Francisco, California This was our second time in San Francisco together, and we decided to start a 5k run on the Golden Gate bridge to kick-start the day! What a feeling, to be on one of the (if not THE most) iconic bridges in the world, running and feeling great! Los Angeles, California Los Angeles is difficult to cover in a few days as it’s so massive and spread out. We managed to see a lot of Jeff’s friends, do some amazing hikes to Griffith Observatory and up Mount Hollywood and even watch a Dodgers baseball game (I am yet to fully understand the game, but it was an incredible experience with an unparalleled atmosphere!). Las Vegas, Nevada We made a quick detour by Las Vegas, since I had never been. We stayed right on the strip in the Treasure Island hotel... Here are the top 5 things to do and see in Glacier National Park, Montana, from driving along the Going-to-the-Sun Road to the best hikes and seeing waterfalls and wildlife along the way. See below for more details: 1. Going-to-the-Sun Road This is a 50-mile road that crosses the park and has epic views almost the entire way. It takes the term "scenic highway" to a level you never thought possible. Lots of turnoffs along the way to stop for pictures. The road is covered in snow and impassible for most of the year. It is usually only open from late June/early July through mid-October. Check the National Park Service page for exact open and close dates: https://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/gtsrinfo.htm Even if you don't have time to do any hikes, just driving along this road is worth the trip. We cannot get over how pretty the scenery is. 2. Hike the Highline Trail (at Logan Pass) The Highline Trail is the most scenic and breathtakingly beautiful trail I've ever been on. The views over the valley below are incredible. The flowers are colorful and gorgeous. And since you start at Logan Pass with an elevation of over 6600 feet, you don't have to do any work to get the amazing views. You may have to get over your fear of heights, but it's totally worth it. DON'T RUN and DON'T WALK BACKWARDS on this trail - two things I did and I can attest that neither one is smart. 3. Hike Hidden Lake (at Logan Pass) Hidden Lake is a short hike (1.3 miles) from the visitor center at Logan Pass. It's completely exposed to the sun the entire time. It's always busy. Always. You will see mountain goats on this trail. They're everywhere. 4. Sun Point at Saint Mary Lake About 15 minutes past Logan Pass is Sun Point. There's a large parking lot right there so it's only a 0.1 mile hike out to the point and it's so pretty. You can see so many mountains and you have such a great view over the lake in all directions. 5. McDonald Falls and Lake McDonald On the north side of Lake McDonald, turn on North Lake McDonald Road and drive for about 2 minutes to the small parking area on your right. You'll see a trailhead for McDonald Creek. That will take you to the waterfall. Look for deer along this trail (we saw two). You can follow the trail out to Lake McDonald too. For up-to-date info on road closures, fires, and weather, check out the Glacier National Park site: https://www.nps.gov/glac/index.htm Hope you liked the vlog! Road trip through USA's most incredible national parks. I went on a 2 week journey through some of the most beautiful places in the world, as we travel through Zion, Bryce, Arches, Mesa Verde & The Grand Canyon. Travelling through 4 different states: Nevada, Utah, Colorado and Arizona, The Grand Circle loop really showcases the best of America. Our journey begins with Zion National Park, included the Angel's Landing trail. Then onto Bryce Canyon National Park for the Peek-a-boo loop. Next we head through Capitol Reef to Moab to explore Arches, Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point. Turning south we go to Colorado to check out Mesa Verde National Park. Finally we head passed Monument Valley to Grand Canyon National Park, where I hike the Bright Angel trail to the bottom and back in one day. --------------------- Watch more films --------------------- SUBSCRIBE to my channel: http://bit.ly/KarlWatsonTravelDocs Visit website: http://www.karlwatson.net --------------------- Social Media --------------------------- Facebook: http://fb.com/karlwatsondocs Twitter: http://bit.ly/karlwatsondocstwitter Instagram: http://bit.ly/karlwatsondocsinsta Merchandise: https://teespring.com/stores/karl-watson-travel-docs-store --------------------- Equipment --------------------------- Sony A7s: https://amzn.to/2NAqCJA Sony 28-70mm Lens: https://amzn.to/2O8IPgV RodeGo Mic: https://amzn.to/2ONrW8p Rode DeadCat: https://amzn.to/2zsuBzr Shoot Tripod: https://amzn.to/2O8w9q5 GoPro Hero 6: https://amzn.to/2NADsaE GoPro Monopod: https://amzn.to/2zrnEOM DJI MavicPro Drone: https://amzn.to/2zrPafg MavicPro Case: https://amzn.to/2zsINbs MacBook Pro: https://amzn.to/2NA2NSe WD Elements 4TB Hard Drive: https://amzn.to/2zsEpJo Software used: Final Cut X, Adobe After Effects --------------------- About Karl Watson --------------------- My name’s Karl, welcome to my channel that’s all about sharing my backpacking adventures from around the world, through fun, entertaining and honest travel documentaries. In a last minute road trip, we travel to two of the best National Parks near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Podcast Listener and friend Daniel Lindhardt offered us the opportunity to stay for free in Signal Mountain Lodge and have a chance to see the bears. Unfortunately Yellowstone's roads were still close and we didn't see any on this trip, but we had some amazing clouds and that made timelapse photography a lot of fun! Within two weeks I tried to put as many national parks on the route as possible :D. Whenever possible I would get some shots with my A7s or DJI Phantom 3 Pro, however, when traveling with friends I usually get a lot more time to film. After all, it was an amazing road trip, we had perfect weather all the way and saw so many amazing places. One drawback was that I wasn't allowed to film with my drone in most of the national parks, so I would get outside of the park borders to get some shots.. Road tripped to these incredible spots in one weekend! They are all amazing, but I cannot wait to get back to Zion National Park. This is easy to do in three days, but more time would allow more time at Zion and to see Bryce Canyon. Map of our route: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1TWBAeXZXK7ACu0N7VV5UM2_CIqU&usp=sharing TOP TRAVEL TIPS: *For the drive, we stayed one night at the North Rim West Cabins, then one night in Kanab, which has several hotel options. GRAND CANYON NORTH RIM: *Stay in the Western Cabins, they are worth it and are close to the Bright Angel Trail. *There are far fewer view points to drive to on the North Rim than the South Rim, but give yourself time because they are very spread out. HORSESHOE BEND: *It was almost too hot here, and there is over 1 mile hiking. *There's not too much to do here other than pictures. ANTELOPE CANYON: Go To: Navajonationparks.org to see every Antelope Canyon Tour *There are several options for Antelope Canyon, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND: Antelope Canyon X Taadidiin Tours (Hiking Tour). It is the cheapest ($38) and they do not rush you. The experience was amazing! For online reservations (were not needed for us): https://www.antelopecanyon-x.com/ ZION NATIONAL PARK: *Stay at the lodge- it makes it so you don't have to wait in the long bus line in the morning. *I would stay for at least 3 nights. You wont want to leave. *Angel's Landing is not that strenuous or difficult, or even extreme, or scary. It's all pretty over hyped, but the view from the top is incredible. What we did: GRAND CANYON (0:00) Intro: Grand Canyon Timelapse, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell (only shot we got... it was too hot to film), drone footage just outside Zion National Park, Hiking Angel's Landing. Our three week long roadtrip in the US has come to an end. We drove 5000 km and got to see California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada. Death Valley National Park Road Trip If you're not a big fan of the heat, but want to know what it's like inside Death Valley, this Death Valley tour video might help. This is the road trip my friend and I took just before summer. -- MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj Bobby's amazing camera - http://amzn.to/2ufCmal -- Death Valley is one of the hottest places in the world. It’s also a short 4 hour drive away from Los Angeles. With summer approaching, I wanted to take a road trip out to Death Valley before it got too hot. My friend Bobby went with me. Neither of us had been, yet. We were only there two days yet I’d say we did learn how to road trip Death Valley successfully by failing at a few things first. Here are some basic tips to get you started: Bring a hat, sunscreen, and lots of water. And make sure you are 100% confident in whatever car you are taking out there. The conditions are rough. There’s virtually no cell phone service and no relief from the sun if you get stranded. Also, Death Valley camping is a thing, but I suggesting you know what you're doing. Because we wanted to make things simple, we just stayed in a motel in Beatty, right outside the park. As I said, we planned on making this road trip to Death Valley a simple one, but it turned out to be the opposite of that because of car trouble. I had to get my car towed. I’ll let the video explain that. Here are some more tips if you’re traveling to Death Valley: What to see when visiting Death Valley: -Father Crowley Vista -Rhyolite Ghost Town -Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes -Badwater Basin -Devil’s Golf Course -Artist’s Drive -Artist’s Palette -Zabriskie Point (I don't know for certain, but this seemed to be a popular Las Vegas to Death Valley tour route destination. It was super crowded with lots of tour buses and people pouring out.) -Dante’s View My favorites: Badwater Basin, Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Artist’s Drive/Palette Devil’s Golf Course was pretty cool too. But mainly just because it’s fun to walk on. It’s razor sharp though. Also, If you road trip Death Valley, consider the car you bring because there are certain roads that are only good for high clearance vehicles. Most of top sights are all accessible via paved roads, but there are a few (like the Race Track) that aren’t. Where to stay in Death Valley: We stayed overnight in a town called Beatty. It’s right outside the east edge of Death Valley and much cheaper. There are also some town-like areas (used town very loosely) inside the park with hotels, cottages, and camp grounds. Consider staying in Furnace Creek, Stovepipe Wells, or Panamint Springs. If you're looking for hotels near Death Valley, you don't have many options. I'd say Lone Pine to the west and Beatty to the east are your best options. Death Valley camping sites can be found all over the park. But again, make sure you know what you're doing and go in a cooler month. We went in May to beat the heat, but it didn’t work. Death Valley weather is crazy. It was 110 and 111 the days we were there. The week before the weather was in the 90’s. The NP website actually says May is usually when it starts getting too hot for visitors. I hope you enjoy watching our Death Valley tour via video. It was definitely quite the experience. In 2015 I took a 10 month solo road trip to all 50 states and to every national park in the lower 48. I spent about $20,000 and drove 36,300 miles (58,400 km). I also collected state flags as I went by trading out new 3' x 5' flags that I bought at the beginning for used flags that I came across. My collection includes flags from The Oklahoma City Museum & Memorial (Oklahoma), USS Alabama (Alabama), Astronaut Hall of Fame (Florida), Gettysburg National Military Park (Pennsylvania), Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Ohio!), Pikes Peak (Colorado), and others. Two years ago I decided I was going to take a year off from work to travel. I was willing to spend about 80% of my savings, and this is the project I came up with. My name is Jay Zantos, and I hope to continue to travel and write. Right now I am in the process of publicizing my project and gaining an audience on my blog. My trip summary post can be found here: http://somethingsarecool.com/about-2/50-states-50-national-parks/ Also, this year marks the Centennial Anniversary of the establishment of the US National Park Service. The $80 cost of my one year Interagency National Park Pass is the best money I've ever spent. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been born in this country. I encourage you to get out there and explore it. Jay

It took us 13 days in August, 1600 km and 500 litres of fuel to travel from Vancouver to Calgary with the 30-year-old RV called "Granny". Asking fellow travelers to jump-Start Granny became a usual procedure which gave us the chance to meet a lot of helpful people. After a while, however we had to buy new parts for the old lady which made her run like a teenager again. Due to the 150 years anniversary of Canada, we were lucky to enter all the National Parks for free. This is how we visited Yoho, Banff and Jasper National Park always on the search for bears. All shot with iPhone on gimbal and DJi osmo and edited with Final Cut Pro. For this England travel vlog we are on a wildlife safari! On our road trip to Emma's home, we stopped in the New Forest in Hampshire. It's full of wildlife but specifically so many wild horses. Ok, mostly there are just horses but they do have a range of other animals that we didn't see. We try New Forest cider, traditional cream tea and go hunting for deer (not that hunting). ⭐Location: The New Forest National Park & YHA Hostel, Burley The YHA is an awesome charitable organisation with great places to stay all over England & Wales. We are an English travelling couple who met in Thailand, got engaged in Czech Republic and have continued to travel the world together ever since! Our most recent challenge was leaving the UK with just £500 between us and the aim to create a sustainable travel lifestyle! We work online and aim to spread the message of “Earn Less, Live More”, which encourages people to question their definition of success, and to pursue what makes them truly happy instead of chasing only money. Creating this location independent lifestyle has helped us through depression and given us an incredible opportunity to make our lives more fulfilling. We want others to do the same and join us on this full time travel and digital nomad journey!
