The Role of Flash Chromatography in Natural Product Research
Natural Product Chemists are at a disadvantage when purifying active compounds from extracts because, in most cases, the compounds are unknown to the chemist until they are purified. The combination of automated flash chromatography and their columns with new detection techniques allows chemists in this field to quickly determine which columns are suitable for purifying their compounds, and also provide early recognition of previously discovered compounds. This webinar discusses column screening strategies including Wide Polarity Range chromatography, and detection techniques that allow a user to quickly and simultaneously determine columns useful to purify a compound, suggest fractions to be combined for screening, and screen previously identified compounds. Researchers working in Pharmacognosy, Natural Products, and Food and Flavor chemistry would benefit from the techniques presented in this webinar. Description

With Wolfgang Kubelka, Rudolf Brenneisen (32:23) and Matthias Hamburger (1:03:06) Drug Discovery from Nature Wolfgang Kubelka "Pharmakon": From Poison to Medicine - the Chemical Improvement of Nature? The Greek term "Pharmakon" was used for poison, at the same time for antidote and medicine. During centuries, poisonous and healing plants have been detected by trial and error; it was not before 1800, however, that natural science became successful in isolating and identifying active substances from plants. With the development of chemistry the number of known structures increased enormously, and in many cases their mode of action became explainable. Albert Hofmann in his work, sometimes led by serendipity, gives us excellent examples for classical natural products chemistry. To which extent is it possible to find and improve natural compounds for their use in medicine? Rudolf Brenneisen Cannabis - From Phytocannabinoids to Endocannabinoids The Cannabis plant has been an essential element of traditional medicine for thousands of years. Today, its medicinal use is becoming again popular mainly within self-medication. However, the discrepancy between empirical and evidence-based data is obvious and therefore implies intensive pharmacological and clinical research. On the other hand, the recently discovered Cannabis receptors and their endogenous ligands are potential targets for new therapeutic tools. Matthias Hamburger Contemporary Natural Product Drug Discovery Natural products have been the historically most prolific source for drugs and inspiration for designing synthetic drug substances. Recently, their role in drug discovery has been challenged by the advent of combinatorial synthesis and high-throughput screening. Contemporary opportunities for natural products will be discussed in the larger context of methodological advances and new paradigms in the life sciences. Selected examples will highlight the continued importance of natural products in target discovery and as source for new drug templates with unique properties. Scientific research into new natural products at the John Innes Centre
Plants and microbes produce a wide spectrum of natural products, which give them their huge range of colours, flavours and scents. These chemicals are used to repel pests, diseases or competitors or to attract pollinators, but for humans they represent a potential source of new medicines, flavourings, antimicrobials or other useful compounds. A major area of study at the John Innes Centre is in understanding how and why plants and microbes make these natural products. With this knowledge, we are looking at ways of exploiting them to help maintain our health, to improve crops plants and to maintain a safe, nutritious food supply. Professor Anne Osbourn leads a research group investigating the structure, function and evolution of natural products, in particular in crop and model plants. Professor Cathie Martin's research background is in cellular specialisation; in particular how flower colour and shape is determined. More recently she has been investigating how plants can be improved by manipulating the natural products that they produce.

Dr. Mercola speaks on Telomeres Dr. Bill Andrews Nobel prize research Product B IsaGenesis Isagenix
Dr. Mercola speaks on Telomere Science and age-reversal research of Dr. Bill Andrews. Dr. Andrews, speaks on Nobel prize research, Product B IsaGenesis + Antioxidant support by Award-Winning company Isagenix. Dr. Bill Andrews, together with Isagenix Founder and master formulator John Anderson have created Product B IsaGenesis (4th Generation), which is changing the way we age. This is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I don't take products much and am NOT interested in hype. I am interested in results. I am deeply grateful and feel it is a responsibility to let others know something like this exists, finally. Personally, my joints and entire body feel better than they've ever felt. There are gymnastic moves I haven't been able to do for years, that I can now do again with ease. Our friends in college love Product B IsaGenesis and notice their mental clarity and focus are enhanced, helping them in their studies. We all feel better able to handle the stress of day to day living. This is for anyone who wants to feel better. Please send email to: ultrahealth AT songofhome.com to receive more in depth information. We will show you the best ways to obtain Product B IsaGenesis, with guaranteed purity. Product B IsaGenesis is a powerful blend of complex botanicals and vitamins uniquely designed to offer superior telomere support for youthful aging. Quicker recovery time, increased mental clarity and focus, and sustained energy are a few of the many benefits. This is an all natural solution (with super food botanicals) helping us live young, clear and live healthy! Learn about the connection between telomeres and aging. Vegan and Non-GMO. So, not only do you slow down aging, you can actually reverse it. Recently we have discovered that the science of human aging is really pretty simple. We age because our cells divide and our Telomeres get shorter. What's a Telomere? Well, to answer that, let's zoom into a human's hundred trillion cells Every cell contains a nucleus, with genes and chromosomes. If you zoom in further you see that the chromosomes are made up of DNA molecules that are 100 million bases long, coiled up like a slinky. They are a long, repetitive sequences of DNA at the end of each of our chromosomes. These sequences are called Telomeres. When a cell divides the genetic material inside that cell needs to be copied. This is called DNA replication. During this process, enzymes that replicate a strand of DNA are unable to continue replicating all the way to the end, which causes the loss of some DNA. And the ends, if you remember, are where the telomeres are. As telomeres get shorter, humans begin to experience the general effects of aging. Loss of muscle, failing memory, poor eyesight, lack of energy, and slower recovery after exercise. The bottom line is this: When cells divide, telomeres shorten... And bad things happen when telomeres get short. Just like this brick wall was copied imperfectly, our DNA is unable to copy itself perfectly. When a strand is replicated, the new strand is shorter than the old strand. Research we completed in 1997 established that humans also have an enzyme called Telomerase, that can lengthen telomeres. This research was so significant that in 2009 it was awarded the Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine. We know that there must be a way for our bodies to re-lengthen telomeres, because, our reproductive cells do not exhibit telomere shortening and show no signs of aging. The reason these cells are essentially immortal is because reproductive cells produce an enzyme called Telomerase. Telomerase acts like an assembly line inside our cells that adds nucleotides to the ends of our chromosomes, thus, lengthening our telomeres. In a cell that expresses telomerase, telomeres are lengthened as soon as they shorten. The Telomerase gene exists in all our cells. That's because the DNA in every one of our cells is identical. A skin cell, muscle cell and liver cell all contain exactly the same genetic information. So, if the cells that create our sperm and egg cells contain the code for telomerase, every other cell must contain the code as well. marketing research for beginners, understanding marketing research fundamentals
marketing research for beginners, understanding marketing research fundamentals. Definition: The process of gathering, analyzing and interpreting information about a market, about a product or service to be offered for sale in that market, and about the past, present and potential customers for the product or service; research into the characteristics, spending habits, location and needs of your business's target market, the industry as a whole, and the particular competitors you face. Market research provides relevant data to help solve marketing challenges that a business will most likely face--an integral part of the business planning process. In fact, strategies such as market segmentation (identifying specific groups within a market) and product differentiation (creating an identity for a product or service that separates it from those of the competitors) are impossible to develop without market research. Market research involves two types of data: Primary information. This is research you compile yourself or hire someone to gather for you. Secondary information. This type of research is already compiled and organized for you. Examples of secondary information include reports and studies by government agencies, trade associations or other businesses within your industry. Most of the research you gather will most likely be secondary. When conducting primary research, you can gather two basic types of information: exploratory or specific. Exploratory research is open-ended, helps you define a specific problem, and usually involves detailed, unstructured interviews in which lengthy answers are solicited from a small group of respondents. Specific research, on the other hand, is precise in scope and is used to solve a problem that exploratory research has identified. Interviews are structured and formal in approach. Of the two, specific research is the more expensive.
