Oracle SQL Tutorial 1 - Intro to Oracle Database

10:18
As illustrated in the video, Oracle Database is a program designed to hold lots of information, or data. There are all kinds of different databases and they all have their uses. Some of the most common ones are MySQL, SQL Server, Sybase, and MongoDB. All of these have different uses. The differences will be easier to understand after you learn more about each kind of database. We did not discuss it much in the video, but if you are wondering what “SQL” means in the title, it stands for structured query language. Structured query language is a human readable computer language that is used to tell databases to do things. We will discuss SQL and Oracle SQL Developer more in future videos. Databases are better than spreadsheets because they allow multiple users at one time, different levels of access given to users, recovery options and transactions, and it is more protected from hacking and malicious destruction. Programming languages often have very useful functions or methods that can be used to communicate to a database and therefore they are a naturally good option for the back end of programs. This course will go over all of the major parts of database programming using Oracle SQL. We will be using Oracle 11g, but these videos should still work with other versions, including the most recent 12c. Q and A ~~~~~~ How much does Oracle cost? The full enterprise edition costs thousands. They have other versions for less and they even have a FREE VERSION! This is known as the XE version (eXpress Edition). That is the one we will be using. How long does it take to learn SQL? You can learn all of the basics and be an efficient beginner database developer in only about a month of practice. To become an intermediate it can take anywhere from an additional 3 - 6 months with a only a few hours of studying and practicing each day. How can I learn SQL faster? Take notes and actually mess around with making your own database. Watch these videos until you understand the concepts within them, read articles and books that teach in more depth. Should I Learn Oracle or MySQL?

02:20
Should I learn Oracle or MySQL? MySQL is a popular open source database, but Oracle seems like the default database I see in use. Oracle is more expensive to implement and to train in. The certifications are like Microsoft's examinations, in that the classes and tests cost more. Then I need to go with MySQL. Not so fast. Popular should equal more job opportunities. MySQL has stronger database authentication based on the person's location. However, Oracle has corporate support to assist you with any problems you have. Which database do you think is better? Oracle does have a number of superior database management tools like rman, dataguard, internal job scheduling and queues. Oracle also has a more mature stored procedure language compared to MySQL. Stored procedures make it a lot easier to add verification logic and corrections to your database, instead of reprogramming the application that relies on the database. MySQL originally didn't have stored procedures or the rich programming environment Oracle did. However, MySQL is catching up. I know that a lot of companies like Oracle's hot backups so that restorations are faster in case of database failure, and the Real Application Clusters that lets your users search several servers at once is a good value. All of that is why Oracle is so often used, especially by big companies. Where is MySQL used? MySQL is free to a lot of non-profits and non-commercial groups. So it is popular at small charities and schools. It sounds like I need to learn Oracle just to gain access to the higher paying jobs, since non-profits don't pay much. Or you could learn Microsoft SQL. I'm not that desperate. Oh, come on. You could manage Microsoft databases on Microsoft Windows servers if you learn Microsoft SQL. I'd rather work for minimum wage at a non-profit with MySQL than MSSQL.

Oracle DB Vs MySQL for Enterprise DataBase Deployments

08:54
Oracle DB is big, and expensive, but it brings a lot to the "table" when compared with MySQL. MySQL has limited ability to audit. MySQL's security is unsophisticated. There are no groups or roles, no ability to deny a privilege (you can only grant privileges). A user who logs in with the same username and password from different network addresses may be treated as a completely separate user. There is no built-in encryption comparable to Oracle. MySQL's Authentication is built-in. There is no LDAP, Active Directory, or other external authentication capability. MySQL has no MPP (massively parallel processing ) support. Unlike Oracle MySQL has no fractional-second storage type for times, dates, or intervals. There is no RAC (Real Application Cluster) support in My SQL, and no failover or server promotion either. These are strong features in Oracle MySQL's number of joins per query is limited to 61. Oracle's limit is much larger. MySQL Replication is asynchronous and has many limitations and edge cases. For example, it is single-threaded, so a powerful slave can find it hard to replicate fast enough to keep up with a less powerful master.

Topics Covered What is a MySQL Database How to Navigate through a MySQL Database using PHPMyAdmin How to export, backup a database How to extract data from a MySQL Database Class Notes Introduction Databases are used to store data. MySQL databases are most commonly used for websites because MySQL is open source and free. Storing Data MySQL Server software manages databases A Database is generally the largest unit for storing data Tables contain information about specific types of data (vendors, employees, parts list) Columns in Tables store specific information (Frist Name, Last Name, ID Number) Rows store Records in a Table (All of an Employees Record, or All Information about a Part Employee Number Last Name First Name Email Address Phone Number 1 Evans Tom [email protected] 444-444-4444 2 Thompson Fred [email protected] 555-555-5555- Connecting to the Database Database software allows for Users and Permissions like an Operating System does. If the Database Server is on the SAME server as the Web Server then you connect to the database using LOCALHOST, if not you use the address of the Database Server Working with MySQL You can backup the entire database and restore it by exporting to the SQL format. You can export TABLES into Excel spreadsheets to easily extract data such as site members email addresses.

Oracle vs SQL Server vs MySQL Contest!

04:42
As you study databases, there is a category of databases known as relational databases. These organize data in tables. The three most popular relational databases are MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle. These database systems are top competitors. These are very similar and they are all very popular. Which one is best? They are very strong competitors. Of course certain ones are better for certain things, but they are all based off of the SQL standard. I am announcing that I am making videos over all three relational database systems. I am uploading them at the same time and turning it into a competition. The scoring systems works like this: 1 view = 1 point. 1 like = 10 points. The competition starts on video #23 and ends on video #150. After this I will add up the points and see which series wins. The winning series gets a bonus 50 videos. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HELP ME! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Database Design 39 - Indexes (Clustered, Nonclustered, Composite Index)

13:28
This video covers the basics of indexes. Indexing is an extremely important step of database design. Without Indexes database queries can take a substantial amount of time and hog system resources. The main two classifications of indexes are clustered and non-clustered indexes. Clustered indexes are usually the primary key and determine how the data is actually stored in the table. These are the fastest and most effective. Non-clustered indexes sort a reference to data that is still fast but doesn't actually determine how the data is structured. The best tip I can give you is to use indexes but don't over use them. Having loads of indexes on columns that are barely ever in a where clause or join can bog down the database. This is because every time the table is updated the index must also be updated! When a database looks through a table for certain where conditions on a column that does not have an index, it does an entire table scan. This is not a good practice for large databases (or even small databases but not as bad). With an index the database will do an index seek and quickly find the data you are looking for. Composite indexes consist of two or more columns within one index. Use these when you plan on using the two columns together for a database query WHERE clause. Clustered vs. Nonclustered Index Structures in SQL Server

08:04
Clustered and nonclustered indexes share many of the same internal structures, but they're fundamentally different in nature. Watch Microsoft Certified IT Professional Jon Seigel explain the similarities and differences of clustered and nonclustered indexes, using a real-world example to show how these structures work to improve the performance of SQL queries. In this tutorial, you will learn how to connect to a MySQL database with Java. In this session we’re going to learn how to connect a MySQL database with Java. Before we get started there are some prep work that needs to take place. One is that you need to have a MySQL database already installed. If not, you can download one from the site listed here on the slide. Time - 00:20 Next, we’ll need to download and install a MySQL JDBC driver. This driver will allow the Java program to connect to the database. You can download it from this URL, and I’ll do that now. I’ll just take this URL, drop it into my favorite browser and here I am at the page. I’m on this page, this is for downloading the Connector/J browser. I’ll select the platform, platform independent. Now move down and I’ll select download and it will download a zip archive. Make sure you download the most recent version. In this case it’s 5.1.29. Make sure you download something at that version or later. Time - 01:04 Download, scroll down, select, “No thanks, just start my download.” This will start downloading the file for you. Now what we can do is show it in the finder. I’ll double click it to extract it. At this point I have the driver extracted. There’s a file in here called MySQL connector.jar that we’ll use later. Time - 01:34 Next, what I need to do is create a Java project in Eclipse. Let’s do that. On Eclipse I’ll say I’ll save file, new, Java project. This will be JDBC demo and I will select finish. What I’ll do is I will add a new class. New, class, this will be my driver and it will have a public static void main region. At this point we have a shell for our project created. Time - 02:28 Next, what we’ll do is we will talk to the actual development process and I really like this slide because it outlines exactly what we need to do. The first thing we’ll do is add the database driver to the classpath. Next, we’ll get a connection, we’ll submit a SQL query and then we’ll process the result set. Time - 02:48 Let’s start with step one, adding a MySQL database driver to the classpath. In our Eclipse project I’m going to add a new folder called lib, lib for library. In this lib folder I’m going to add the driver that I downloaded earlier. What I’ll do is I’ll just grab this driver. It’s the MySQL connector bin.jar and I’ll just drag and drop it to this lib folder. It will prompt me and I’ll say go ahead and copy the file. Time - 03:25 Next, I need to add the jar file, the driver to the classpath. I’ve set this up with properties, choose Java build path and then I’ll choose add jars. Expand this folder, that lib, I’ll grab that jar file and I’ll have it setup. Great. Time - 03:51 Now we can start coding. We need to get a connection, submit a SQL query and process a result set. Let me just sketch this out on a slide over here. The first thing I’ll do up top is I’ll just do an import on java.sql.* because all of the classes and interfaces that we need are in this package. Time - 04:17 I’ll also just setup a try catch block just to handle for any exception that may occur. Small typo there. Time - 04:40 Inside of this section I’m going to first get a connection to database. Then next I will create a statement. Then from here I will execute a SQL query and then I will process the result set. Time - 05:16 That’s my basic game plan, let’s fill it in with some real code. Here I’ll say connection, myConn = DriverManager.getConnection. I’ll give the jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/demo student, student. Student is the user ID and student is also the password. Create MySQL Database - MySQL Workbench Tutorial

17:15
We model a MySQL database using a diagram in MySQL workbench. We then forward engineer the diagram to create MySQL database on the server. MySQL workbench is a powerful tool for modeling and creating databases and we take advantage of it's relationship tool to create many to many relationship between our main movie table, and stars, directors and genres tables. I don't go into too much detail on how the relationships work in this video on purpose, I wanted to make a general overview of how MySQL workbench can be used to quickly created the model of a database with relationships between tables. ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Hey guys, I'm now using Patreon to share improved and updated video lesson material. For a small fee you can access all the downloadable files from this lesson (source code, icons & graphics, cheat sheets) and everything else included in the video from the Patreon page. Additionally, you will get access to ALL Clever Techie videos in HD format with no ads. Thank you so much for supporting Clever Techie :) Download this video's files here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/create-mysql-20819048 This download (Patreon unlock) includes: (Scrape IMDB function php source code, workbench movies relational tables sql source code) + ( You also get access to ALL source code and any downloadable content of ALL Clever Techie videos, as well as access to ALL videos in HD 1080p quality format with all video ads removed! ) ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` From the video: Let's go ahead and create the database model which will hold all the data now using MySQL Workbench (a free program that you can download here). When you first open the Workbench, create a new connection by clicking on the + icon. I'm going to name my connection localhost and and put "root" for the username. Then press press the storage vault button and enter your password. You can then click on "test the connection" and you should get the message: "successfully made the MySQL connection." At this point, click OK, and then double click on this newly created connection to connect to your MySQL database server. Now go to File---New Model and double click on Add Diagram. This is the part of the program where we're going to be designing our database model. You will see a toolbar on the left side along with all the tools available which we can use to model the database. Go ahead and double-click on the New Table icon which will place a new table in the diagram. When the table shows up on the diagram, double-click on it, the new box will show up at the bottom of the screen where we can rename our table as well as specify all the column names and their appropriate data types. Name this table that we have just created "movies", and then for the very first column, enter "id" which will be the unique identifier for this table. This id will also act as primary key which is going to auto increment so make sure the primary key and auto-increment check boxes are both checked as well as not null (NN). Now let's go ahead and enter the rest of the column names. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ( Website ) https://clevertechie.com - PHP, JavaScript, Wordpress, CSS, and HTML tutorials in video and text format with cool looking graphics and diagrams. Database Clustering Tutorial 1 - Intro to Database Clustering

09:20
Read the Blog: https://www.calebcurry.com/blogs/database-clustering/intro-to-database-clustering Get ClusterControl: http://bit.ly/ClusterControl In this video we are going to be discussing database clustering and how to manage database clusters with ClusterControl. Database clustering is when you have multiple computers working together that are all used to store your data. There are four primary reasons you should consider clustering. Data redundancy, Load balancing (scalability) High availability. Monitoring and Automation That is an intro to a few of the reasons having a cluster is a good idea. Obviously, not everyone needs a cluster. A cluster can be overkill. But the best way to know is to learn more about them, so I’ll see you in the next video! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

mysql tutorial for beginners (6/8) : Indexes

05:48
mysql tutorial for beginners (6/8) : Indexes As things stand, the table students works and can be searched without problem by MySQL—until it grows to more than a couple of hundred rows, At that point, database accesses will get slower and slower with every new row added, because MySQL has to search through every row whenever a query is issued. This is like searching through every book in a library whenever you need to look something up. Of course, you don’t have to search libraries that way, because they have either a card index system or, most likely, a database of their own. The way to achieve fast searches is to add an index, either when creating a table or at any time afterward. But the decision is not so simple. For example, there are different index types such as a regular INDEX, PRIMARY KEY, and FULLTEXT. Also, you must decide which columns require an index, a judgment that requires you to predict whether you will be searching any of the data in that column. And even when you’ve decided that, you still have the option of reducing index size by limiting the amount of each column to be indexed. If we imagine the searches that may be made on the students table, it becomes apparent that all of the columns may need to be searched. Anyway, go ahead and add an index to each of the columns, using the commands: ALTER TABLE students ADD INDEX(name(3)); An alternative to using ALTER TABLE to add an index is to use the CREATE INDEX command. They are equivalent, except that CREATE INDEX cannot be used for creating a PRIMARY KEY CREATE INDEX surname ON students (surname(5)); DESCRIBE students; These commands create indexes on both the name and surname columns, limiting name index to only the first 3 characters, and surname index to the first 5 characters. For instance, when MySQL indexes the following name: SAFAA It will actually store in the index only the first 3 characters: SAF This is done to minimize the size of the index, and to optimize database access speed. DESCRIBE command shows the key MUL for each column. This key means that multiple occurrences of a value may occur within that column, which is exactly what we want, as name or surname may appear many times. You don’t have to wait, until after creating a table to add indexes. In fact, doing so can be time-consuming, as adding an index to a large table can take a very long time. Therefore, let’s look at a command that creates the table students with indexes already in place. CREATE TABLE students ( Id_studnet SMALLINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, name VARCHAR(10) NOT NULL, surname VARCHAR(20) NOT NULL, email VARCHAR(30) NOT NULL, INDEX(name(3)), INDEX(surname(5)), ,PRIMARY KEY(id_studnet),UNIQUE(email)); Another important index, PK, its single unique key for each student to enable instant accessing of a row. The importance of having a key with a unique value for each row will come up when we start to combine data from different tables. You can add PK, while you create the table at the first time, or later by issuing the following command: ALTER TABLE students ADD PRIMARY KEY(id_student); The last important index, FULLTEXT index Unlike a regular index, MySQL’s FULLTEXT allows super-fast searches of entire columns of text. It stores every word in every data string in a special index that you can search using “natural language,” in a similar manner to using a search engine. It’s not strictly true that MySQL stores all the words in a FULLTEXT index, because it has a built-in list of more than 500 words that it chooses to ignore because they are so common that they aren’t very helpful for searching anyway. This list, called stopwords, includes the, as, is, of, and so on. The list helps MySQL run much more quickly when performing a FULLTEXT search and keeps database sizes down. FULLTEXT indexes can be created for CHAR, VARCHAR, and TEXT columns only. A FULLTEXT index definition can be given in the CREATE TABLE statement when a table is created, or added later using ALTER TABLE (or CREATE INDEX). Adding a FULLTEXT index to the table students for the columns name and surname ALTER TABLE classics ADD FULLTEXT(name, surname); this index is in addition to the ones already created and does not affect them You can now perform FULLTEXT searches across this pair of columns. If you find that MySQL is running slower than you think it should be when accessing your database, the problem is usually related to your indexes. Either you don’t have an index where you need one, or the indexes are not optimally designed. Tweaking a table’s indexes will often solve such a problem. In the next tutorial, we will learn about, using FOREIGN KEY Constraints and how to join tables together.
