We can also say that SQL tables are kind of data structure which are used by database for efficient storage of data. To create a table in our database we use SQL CREATE TABLE command. Link for this video is in the description below. So lets create a table. Creating a table using SQL developer is very easy we do not have to fire any query here. Let's start First of all right click on your connection in which you want to create a table and choose schema browser. This will open a separate schema browser pane or you can expend your connection by clicking this + sign and then right click on table and choose New Table. However I prefer working with schema browser so let's skip to schema browser pane here from the first drop-down list you can choose connection name and in the second drop down list you can choose what database objects you want to work with we want to create a table thus I'll choose table and then click this arrow here and choose option for new table Ok we have created a table wizard first of all give a unique name to your table and add some column as well. For this, click the green plus button. Now we already have a column so give it some name. In this case, a noncdb database would not be available after a PDB is created. You can use FILE_NAME_CONVERT parameter to specify the new location of the datafiles while using COPY or MOVE option. Step 8. Creating the database We can install a new database using Database Configuration Assistant 1. The first step is to specify what action to take. Since we do not have a database created, we'll select the Create a Database option in Step 1. 2. This step will offer the following three options for a database template to select:  General Purpose or Transaction Processing  Custom Database  Data Warehouse We are going to choose the Data Warehouse option for our purposes 3. This step of the database creation will ask for a database name. Since we're creating this database for the data warehouse of ACME Toys and Gizmos Company, we'll choose a name that reflects this—ACME for the company name and DW for data warehouse, resulting in a database name of ACMEDW. As the database name is typed in, the SID (or Oracle System Identifier) is automatically filled in to match it. 4. This step of the database creation process asks whether we want to configure Enterprise Manager. The box is checked by default and leave it as is. 5. On this screen (step 5) we can set the database passwords on the system accounts using a different one for each account, or by choosing one password for all four. We're going to set a single password on all four, but for added security in a production environment, it is a good idea to make a different password for each. Click on the option to Use the Same Administrative Password for All Accounts and enter a password. 6. This step is about storage. We'll leave it at the default of File System for storage management. The other two options are for more advanced installations that have greater storage needs. 7. This step is for specifying the locations where database files are to be created. This can be left at the default for simplicity 8. The next screen is for configuring recovery options. We're up to step 8 now. If we were installing a production database, we would want to make sure to use the Flash Recovery option and to Enable 22 WE-IT TUTORILAS PHNO:8097071144/55 Archiving. Flash Recovery is a feature Oracle has implemented in its database to provide a location that is managed by the database. It stores backups and files needed to recover a database in the event of disk failure. With Flash Recovery Area specified, we can recover data that would otherwise be lost in a system failure. 9. 9. This step is where we can have the installation program create some sample schemas in the database for our reference, and specify any custom scripts to run. The text on the screen can be read to decide whether they are needed or not. We don't need either of these for this book, so it doesn't matter which option we choose. 10. The next screen is for Initialization Parameters. These are the settings that are put in place to define various options for the database such as Memory options. 11. The next screen is for security settings. For the purposes of this book and its examples, we'll check the box to Revert to pre-11g security settings since we don't need the additional features. However, for a production environment, it is a good idea to leave the default checked to use Oracle's more advanced security features. 12. This step is automatic maintenance and we'll deselect that option and move on, since we don't need that additional functionality. Automatic Maintenance Tasks are tasks that run in predefined maintenance windows of time to perform various preconfigured maintenance operations on the database. 13. The next step (step 13 of 14) is the Database Storage screen referred to earlier. Here the locations of the pre-built data and control files can be changed if needed. They should be left set to the default for simplicity since this won't be a production database. For a production environment, we would want to consider storing datafiles on separate partitions for performance reasons, and to minimize the impact of disk failures on the running database if something goes wrong. 14. The final step has the following three options, and any or all can be selected for creating the database:  Create the database directly  Save the creation options as a template for later use  Save database creation scripts that can be used later to create the database The Next button is grayed out since this is the last screen. So click on the Finish button to begin creating the database using the selections we've just chosen. It will display a summary screen showing what options it will be using to install with.

The previous course dealt with accessing data stored in flat files or excel files. In a professional setting, you'll also encounter data stored in relational databases. In this video, I'll briefly talk about what a relational database is and then I'll explain how you can connect to it. In the next video, I'll explain how you can import data from it! So, what's a relational database? There's no better way to show this than with an example. Take this database, called company. It contains three tables, employees, products and sales. Like a flat file, information is displayed in a table format. The employees table has 5 records and three fields, namely id, name and started_at. The id here serves as a unique key for each row or record. Next, the products table contains the details on four products. We're dealing with data from a telecom company that's selling both with and without a contract. Also here, each product has an identifier. Finally, there's the sales table. It lists what products were sold by who, when and for what price. Notice here that the ids in employee_id and product_id correspond to the ids that you can find in the employees and products table respectively. The third sale for example, was done by the employee with id 6, so Julie. She sold the product with id 9, so the Biz Unlimited contract. These relations make this database very powerful. You only store all necessary information once in nicely separated tables, but can connect the dots between different records to model what's happening. How the data in a relational database is stored and shuffled around when you make adaptations, depends on the so-called database management system, or DBMS you're using. Open-source implementations such as MySQL, postgreSQL and SQLite are very popular, but there are also proprietary implementations such as Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL server. Practically all of these implementations use SQL, or sequel, as the language for querying and maintaining the database. SQL stands for Structured Query Language. Depending on the type of database you want to connect to, you'll have to use different packages. Suppose the company database I introduced before is a MySQL database. This means you'll need the RMySQL package. For postgreSQL you'll need RpostgreSQL, for Oracle, you'll use ROracle and so on. How you interact with the database, so which R functions you use to access and manipulate the database, is specified in another R package called DBI. In more technical terms, DBI is an interface, and RMySQL is the implementation. Let's install the RMySQL package, which automatically installs the DBI package as well. Loading only the DBI package will be enough to get started. The first step is creating a connection to the remote MySQL database. You do this with dbConnect(), as follows. The first argument specifies the driver that you will use to connect to the MySQL database. It sure looks a bit strange, but the MySQL() function from the RMySQL package simply constructs a driver for us that dbConnect can use. Next, you have to specify the database name, where the database is hosted, through which port you want to connect, and finally the credentials to authenticate yourself. This is an actual database that we're hosting, so you can try these commands yourself! The result of the dbConnect call, con, is a DBI connection object. You'll need to pass this object to whatever function you're using to interact with the database. Before we do that, let's get familiar with this connection object in the exercises!

Similarly you can also use SQL upper function to perform other DML Let's try This time we will work on our second table EXAMPLE; insert into example values (upper('manish')); first parentheses for values and second for SQL function upper. Let's check the result. As you can see here inserted value is in upper case. Lets compare it with simple insert query Insert into example values ('manish'); Execute it, i think now it's clear that when we perform simple insert DML the inserted value will be the same you provide. Similarly let's try SQL function initcap(); SELECT initcap('hello world') FROM dual; As you see here in result the initial letters of string hello world are in uppercase. Let's do the insert query insert into example values (initcap('hello world')); initial letters of string also are in uppercase. Let's try SQL function lower(); This time we have to write our hello world in all caps. SELECT lower('HELLO WORLD') FROM dual; Execute String totally in lower case. Similarly you can user SQL function lower in other DML like insert and all.

Welcome to an SQLite mini-series! SQLite, as the name suggests, is a lite version of an SQL database. SQLite3 comes as a part of the Python 3 standard library. Databases offer, typically, a superior method of high-volume data input and output over a typical file such as a text file. SQLite is a "light" version that works based on SQL syntax. SQL is a programming language in itself, but is a very popular database language. Many websites use MySQL, for example. SQLite truly shines because it is extremely lightweight. Setting up an SQLite database is nearly instant, there is no server to set up, no users to define, and no permissions to concern yourself with. For this reason, it is often used as a developmental and protyping database, but it can and is used in production. The main issue with SQLite is that it winds up being much like any other flat-file, so high volume input/output, especially with simultaneous queries, can be problematic and slow. You may then ask, what really is the difference between a typical file and sqlite. First, SQLite will let you structure your data as a database, which can easily be queried, so you get that functionality both with adding new content and calling upon it later. Each table would likely need its own file if you were doing plain files, and SQLite is all in one. SQLite is also going to be buffering your data. A flat file will require a full load before you can start querying the full dataset, SQLite files don't work that way. Finally, edits do not require the entire file to be re-saved, it's just that part of the file. This improves performance significantly. Connect to the CDB Where Database has to be Plugged in Using the Noncdb Manifest File and Plug the PDDB12C Database. ==- set environment to CDB ==- sqlplus / as sysdba ==- CREATE PLUGGABLE DATABASE NCDB USING 'E:\app\oracle\manifest\NCDB_manifest_file.xml' COPY FILE_NAME_CONVERT = ('E:\APP\ORACLE\ORADATA\NCDB\', 'E:\app\oracle\oradata\CDB1\'); Note: "Below options are supported and you can chose one based on the env" 1) COPY: The datafiles of noncdb remains intact and it is copied to create PDBs at new locations and keep original datafiles intact at the original location. (This would mean that a noncdb database would still be operational after the creation of a PDB). 2) MOVE: The datafiles of noncdb are moved to a new location to create a PDB. In this case, noncdb database would not be available after a PDB is created. NOCOPY: The datafiles of noncdb are used to create a PDB2 and it uses same existing location. In this case, a noncdb database would not be available after a PDB is created. You can use FILE_NAME_CONVERT parameter to specify the new location of the datafiles while using COPY or MOVE option. Step 8. Once Step 7 Completes Successfully, Switch to the PDB Container and Run the "$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/noncdb_to_pdb.sql". ==- set environment to CDB ==- sqlplus / as sysdba ==- alter session set container=NCDB ==- @$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/noncdb_to_pdb.sql Step 9. 1.Shrink the Table: Shrinking is started from 10g. In this method I’m using user u1 and table name sm1. Now I’m deleting some rows in sm1 COUNT ---------- 1048576 Table sm1 has 1048576 rows. [email protected]: delete from sm1 where deptno=10; 262144 rows deleted. I deleted above number of rows. Rows COUNT ---------- 786432 And I’m giving commit [email protected]: commit; Commit complete. So now we have 786432 rows in sm1 table. Now see the following command [email protected]: select OWNER,TABLESPACE_NAME,SEGMENT_NAME,SEGMENT_TYPE,BYTES/1024/1024||' mb'"space",BLOCKS,EXTENTS from dba_segments where tablespace_name like 'U%TS'; OWNER TABLESPACE_NAME SEGMENT_NAME SEGMENT_TYPE space BLOCKS EXTENTS ----- --------------- ------------- ------------- ------ ---------- ---------- U1 U1TS SM1 TABLE 29 mb 3712 44 After I deleted some rows in sm1 table still above result showing same values, so now our duty is shrink this table. This is done by following 2 ways, i By using COMPACT key word: In this method shrinking is done in two phases. In the first phase all fragmented space are just defragmented, but still the High Water Mark is persist with last used block only. That mean used free blocks are not de allocated and HWM is not updated here. Issue the following command before use shrink command. [email protected] alter table sm1 enable row movement; Table altered. There is particular use with above command, when we shrink the table all rows are moves to contiguous blocks, so here row movement should be done. By default the row movement is disabled for any table, so above command enabled the row movement. Then execute shrink command now. [email protected]: alter table sm1 shrink space compact; Table altered. Now see the space of table by using below command. [email protected]: select OWNER,TABLESPACE_NAME,SEGMENT_NAME,SEGMENT_TYPE,BYTES/1024/1024||' mb'"space",BLOCKS,EXTENTS from dba_segments where tablespace_name like 'U%TS'; OWNER TABLESPACE_NAME SEGMENT_NAME SEGMENT_TYPE space BLOCKS EXTENTS ----- --------------- ------------- ------------- ------ ---------- ---------- U1 U1TS SM1 TABLE 29 mb 3712 44 So here seems nothing happened with above shrink command, but internally the fragmented space is defragmented. But the high water mark is not updated, used free blocks are also not de allocated. For de allocating the used blocks we have to execute below command. This is the second phase. [email protected]: alter table sm1 shrink space; Table altered. Now see the space by using below command. [email protected]: select OWNER,TABLESPACE_NAME,SEGMENT_NAME,SEGMENT_TYPE,BYTES/1024/1024||' mb'"space",BLOCKS,EXTENTS from dba_segments where tablespace_name like 'U%TS'; OWNER TABLESPACE_NAME SEGMENT_NAME SEGMENT_TYPE space BLOCKS EXTENTS ----- --------------- ------------- ------------- ---------- ---------- ---------- U1 U1TS SM1 TABLE 20.8125 mb 2664 36 So now the space of sm1 table is reduced. Note: Actually the alter table sm1 shrink space command will complete these two phases of the shrinking of table at a time. But here we done shrink process in two phases because when we use alter table sm1 shrink space command the table locked temporarily some time period, during this period users unable to access the table. So if we use alter table sm1 shrink space compact command the table is not locked but space is defragmented. When we not in business hours issue the second phase shrink command then users are won’t get any problem. ii Because of above method the table dependent objects are goes to invalid state, to overcome this problem we have to use below command. [email protected]: alter table sm1 shrink space cascade; Table altered. The above command also shrinks the space of all dependent objects. We also do this in two phases like above two phases. Answer: It's a declarative technique for enforcing security. Typically, it's based on user application context. That was the first limitation of 8i. Backed with 8i context were session-specific. The context variables were sort in the PGA. That means you simply couldn't use this in a web environment. However, global context, with use of 9i, Virtual Private Database became usable for web applications with connection pooling. But whether you're using it to client server or on a three tier environment, it's declarative technique rather than a programmatic technique. I can go behind the back of the application as a DBA and generate predicates to get appended to all SQLs. Select, insert, update, delete the end users. Issue the SQL and I will generate a predicate that filters the access. It's impossible to bypass. All users will have predicates appended to all their code. It doesn't matter whether they're using SQL Plus, Discoverer, Business Objects, Crystal Reports, eBusiness Suites, whatever they're using, I as DBA can filter their access to roles. The end result, different users see different data sets while running the same code and accessing the same tables, hence, the name Virtual Private Database. Different users will think they're seeing a totally different set of tables, but in fact it's one column database, one set of tables hosting a single application shared by all the users. The mechanism - you can apply VPD to tables, to views, to synonyms, and a declarative technique. Once the technique you write a function that generates the predicate, you associate the function with the table. From then on whenever the user issue SQL against that table the Cost-Based Optimizer rewrites the code. The Cost-Based Optimizer rewrites the user SQL to call the function to generate the predicate. The predicate is then appended to the SQL and it's the modified SQL that is parsed and executed. Let's see how this actually works. I'm working here by the way. This is just a perfectly normal 12.1 database. But what I'm going to demonstrate at this point will in fact work on 11g as well. I'm not going to be using any of the 12c enhancements to VPD for this little demonstration. I'll work in the scott schema. What do we have to do? We write a function to generate the predicate string. Create function. And I'll my function vpdf. The function must conform to a fixed specification. It must take two varchar arguments. One of the arguments is intended to be the schema to which the function will be applied. The other argument is the object within the schema to which the function will be applied. And it must return a varchar2, which is the generated predicate. Let's begin. Within this function you can do just about anything. There are some limitations. It's impossible for the function to query or update the table against which the VPD calls here is going to be applied or we violate the rules of purity that we come across so often with PL/SQL. But apart from that, it can do just about anything - including a number of dreadful side effects can be introduced by writing VPD functions. I'm going to do a very simple one on this one. I'll shall simple return immediately a predicate. What predicate? Ename, which is the ename column from this scott.emp table. Ename should equal sys_context. I'll go to the local context, my user end context, and just extract session user. We can see that John has tested this earlier today and therefore the object already was suggesting and he's just dropping it now and cleaning up the recreate. I hope you realize these really are live demonstrations. I'm not just running scripts. I've created a function. What's that function going to do? It's going to return this value here. Test it. Always test it and see what it's actually going to do. I'll select vpdf. I have to give it a couple of arguments. This one will do for now.
