http://www.travelingmom.com; http://www.aruba.com; http://travelingmom.com/destinations/international/4414-aruba-for-the-family.html Kim Orlando loves to travel. Especially to Aruba. Aruba is a favorite destination of this family travel writer and blogger. After all, Aruba and family travel to Aruba go together perfectly because Aruba is a perfect Family Travel destination. Orlando should love family travel to Aruba because she's the CEO of travelingmom.com and she especially loves to travel with her family. When the idea of a family trip to Aruba came up, Orlando knew she wanted to go and, better still, take her family. But, she also knew that she wanted them to experience the island's beauty, and detach from their electronics: phones, computers and tablets. Challenging? You bet. Orlando's brood consists of three kids ages 11-15, and of course her husband, Rome. Naturally, no one wanted to part with their electronic lifelines. To sweeten the deal, she offered each kid twenty bucks. "I thought that was the best way to ease the pain," Orlando said. "I'd give them each twenty dollars and they could spend it on texting, or pick up some great stuff in Aruba to bring back, and build a memory with." How did they react? Not surprisingly, not happily. Said Sophia, 13, " It was one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make. Shopping or texting my friends? Too hard!" Dario, 11, has a girlfriend, so for him, giving up his phone and texting was decidedly not something he was happy with. But mom was able to make it work. "So, the kids were finally able to detach during our hike, windsurfing and at dinner but otherwise there was a lot of negotiating attempts," she laughed. "My daughter shopped. But then she got smacked with a $100 texting billl a month later!" But freed from their devices, the family gradually succumbed to Aruba's charms. One of the high points was a breakfast al fresco, arranged by Palm Tours http://www.depalmtours.com/, and a family hike through the Arikok National Forest (http://www.arubanationalpark.org/) Of course they explored Aruba's famous caves, the homes of former pirates, some say, but with intact Arawak Indian hieroglyphics from the 14000's. The golf courses of Aruba were a compensation of sorts, because Orlando's family are golf addicts. But at the end of the day, when all the Aruba action was over, would the Orlando recommend that other families go cold turkey and leave their electronic devices off and out of reach? "If you can get away with leaving the electronics at home, do it!," Orland says. Since that's unlikely for most traveling families, she strongly recommends a family pow wow and coming up with some sort of "electronics plan." She also recommends checking with phone service providers to see if they can put limits on texting. We suggest asking service providers for special offers and roaming charges. At the end of the vacation, does Kim Orlando think it was worth the effort? "Absolutely!" she says. "This electronics challenge has become part of our family vacation story. We laugh and groan about it long after the trip is over." But that's how memories are built. Right?

Designing technology has always been magic, but now is a special time, as the internet allows for large scale public participation and nearly instantaneous feedback - what Scott Klemmer calls, Design at Large. Ideas that don’t work the first time around can often times be modified or redesigned quickly, and a new version released for another round of feedback. Scott is the co-founder and co-director of the Design Lab at UCSD where he is an Associate Professor of Cognitive Science and Computer Science & Engineering. His group’s research tools harvest and synthesize examples to empower more people to design, program, learn, and create. Recent work - inspired by the design studio - is enabling peer learning online. He previously served as Associate Professor of Computer Science at Stanford and was a founding participant in the d.school. So, armed with my camera, I set about scouring the British Isles for examples of their beauty and diversity. We so often travel abroad in order to be impressed, but the truth is there is just as much to be amazed by right on our doorstep!

It’s a world-weary traveler’s song, dug up from a time capsule and processed through a 2016 acoustic house filter, rife with tangible nostalgia for summers past, present and future. Rolling along on Sam Island‘s folk hero vocals and the chilled-out electronics of Equal’s cloudless production, the childhood friends come together on a pristine debut collaboration that shines as yet another trophy on the HeavyRoc Music shelf." - NeonGoldRecords.com http://vevo.ly/cSbEea

Soar to dizzying heights in Wallowa County, Oregon, a remote county even by the standards of the rural Northwest. Subscribe on YouTube: http://bit.ly/U8Ys7n Until recently, the town’s biggest claim to fame — beyond its significant Native American history — was a Swiss-made tram that is said to have the steepest vertical lift for a four-passenger gondola in North America. But the Wallowa Valley is now also home to unexpected businesses like Arrowhead Chocolates, which serves Stumptown Coffee and produces 40-some varieties of small-batch, Fair Trade Certified chocolates in regionally inspired flavors like huckleberry and blended whiskey. For educational use. To encourage engagement with Postcard from a Travel Snob by Sophie Hannah from the time and place collection in the EdExcel poetry anthology. Postcard from a Travel Snob I do not wish that anyone were here. This place is not a holiday resort with karaoke nights and pints of beer for drunken tourist types – perish the thought. This is a peaceful place, untouched by man – not like your seaside-town-consumer-hell I’m sleeping in a local farmer’s van It’s great. There’s not a guest house or hotel within a hundred miles. Nobody speaks English (apart from me, and rest assured, I’m not your sun-and-sangria-two-weeks- small-minded-package-philistine-abroad). When you’re as multi-cultural as me, your friends become wine connoisseurs, not drunks. I’m not a British tourist in the sea; I’m an anthropologist in trunks.

Travel Machu Picchu: Travel Peru-Travel Video PostCard Machu Picchu is high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, and Peru is one of South Americaâs most magnificent and authentic countries. Machu Picchu was once a royal palace built by an Incan ruler. Machu Picchu sits like a mysterious city eight thousand feet above the sea. Peruâs most famous site, Machu Picchu, is more than Peruâs. Machu Picchu is one of the wonders of the world with its two hundred buildings and cloud covered beauty. About twelve hundred people lived in Machu Picchu, and Peru has done an exceptional job of preserving Machu Picchu. Professional Inca architects built Machu Picchu with granite blocks and bronze tools. The Inca architects at Machu Picchu were so advanced that the thinnest of knife blades can't be forced between the stones.

Quick advice for you if you do not have a lot of time in a city, but want to see the main tourist attractions. One take a hop on hop off bus, they hit all the main sites in a relatively quick manner with explanations. If that is not available in the town you are in, then just check out the postcard rack in the train station and you will see a postcard with 6 or 8 pictures of the town. Grab the postcard and you will see what you need to see, and just ask around how to find the places. Hope it helps!

RESIDENT 1950 TO 1966, VISITS 1975 1988 2003 History WIKIPEDIA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belleville%2C_Ontario Originally the site of a Native settlement known as Asukhknosk, the future location of the city was settled by United Empire Loyalists in 1789, after which it became known as Meyer's Creek after prominent settler and industrialist John Walden Meyers. It was renamed Belleville in honour of Lady Arabella Gore in 1816, after a visit to the settlement by Sir Francis Gore and his wife. Belleville became an important railway junction with the completion of the Grand Trunk Railway in 1855. Economy Procter & Gamble, Lipton, Wilson Sports, Sears and Nortel are among the internationally known companies with industrial operations in Belleville. The central Canadian Forces Post Office (CFPO) is located here. As this post office is the gateway between the civilian and military postal systems of Canada, Belleville serves as the mailing address for Canadian Armed Forces Bases and Ships abroad. Education Belleville is the home of Loyalist College, the local community college. There are three public high schools in the City of Belleville: Centennial, Moira and Quinte secondary schools and two publicly funded Roman Catholic high schools: St. Theresa and Nicholson Catholic College. Finally, Belleville has two private schools: Albert College, a private boarding school and Quinte Christian High School aka, the Dutch High School, which opened in 1977 and moved into new facilities in September 2006. Sports Belleville is home to the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League. The Belleville Bulls play at the Yardmen Arena located at Highway 401 and Cannifton Road. A major summer event which attracts thousands of people to Belleville each year is the Waterfront & Ethnic Festival. NHL stars Bobby Hull, Brett Hull, Matt Cooke, Andrew Raycroft, and Marc Crawford were born in Belleville. Susanna Moodie moved there with her husband in 1840, after several years spent "roughing it in the bush," and it was also home to Sir MacKenzie Bowell, Canada's fifth Prime Minister as well as author Farley Mowat. English/Nat You may not be able to afford that vacation in the Bahamas - but at least now you can trick your friends into thinking you can. An entrepreneur in the Netherlands has come up with the idea of selling postcards from fabulous holiday spots and then posting them for you from that far-away destination. His company - Eurojoke - seems to be taking off. For tourists, Amsterdam is an exciting holiday destination. But for those who live there, it's nothing to write home about. Enter Eurojoke - the brainchild of entrepreneur Duco Bodt. He's come up with the solution for those not able or willing to spend a fortune on a holiday in a far-flung holiday resort. His customers can buy postcards depicting any one of a number of exciting vacation spots - New York, the Bahamas, Colorado, Las Vegas or Hawaii for example. Once your message has been written, Bodt will post the card for you - from your chosen destination. SOUNDBITE: (English) "I think it's fun. In Amsterdam on vacation and you send a postcard from the Bahamas." SUPER CAPTION: Ilse Verkammen, tourist Anybody can take advantage of this "virtual reality" postcard company. Just use your imagination and write about your make-believe vacation to your friends and family back home! SOUNDBITE: (English) "It's a good joke. I like it." SUPER CAPTION: Marliene Bakker, tourist Of course, some customers may have less than light-hearted motives for using Eurojoke. The service could be used by philanderers trying to cover their tracks with the spouse back home, for instance. But Bodt says Eurojoke is all about good, clean fun. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Eurojoke is a virtual travelling agency. We sell an illusion. We sell the travelling postcard." SUPER CAPTION: Duco Bodt, Eurojoke Manager The process of getting a Eurojoke card to the folks back home is fairly easy. SOUNDBITE: (English) "You write the card as if you are on holiday. That gives a good feeling. You post the card to Eurojoke and we post your card on to your favourite holiday destination." SUPER CAPTION: Duco Bodt, Eurojoke Manager A real vacation to an exotic holiday spot could cost you thousands. But a Eurojoke card can sell you the illusion of an expensive holiday for just five dollars. And the idea is starting to catch on - with far-flung locations being firm favourites among tourists wanting to show off to their friends. SOUNDBITE: (English) "I think the most popular are Bahamas and Hawaii. But Las Vegas is also very popular." SUPER CAPTION: Duco Bodt, Eurojoke Manager Of course, there will always be people not taken in by the Eurojoke concept. SOUNDBITE: (English) "I'd rather go myself and send my own postcard." SUPER CAPTION: Tom Westland, tourist But for some, Eurojoke could be the next best thing to a holiday in the sun.
