PMPress #4: Keep inline styles and html out of the post editor

14:55
Episode 4 - Hosted by Tony Zeoli, founder of Digital Strategy Works. Here is why we need to keep inline style and HTML out of the post editor. It can cause problems when others attempt to edit a page and delete styles and html, which then have be be reset. We should never use the post editor for page layout - that is what page builders are for or we should create custom page templates and call those into our themes and use post body or custom fields to insert content into content blocks. Using inline styles and div blocks also cause issues with future development, because then a common page template cannot be modified. Each page or post layout has to be modified and maintained as similar to others to keep a consistent layout sitewide. It just reintroduces all of the problems we had with inline styles in HTML before CSS was introduced later on.

How To Edit The WordPress Header | WP Learning Lab

04:37
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL How To Edit The WordPress Header | WP Learning Lab The WordPress header is one of those place where a lot of important things happen. Scripts are called, integrations are set up and validated, stylesheets are imported, and so on. Usually, leaving the header.php file alone is the best plan, but sometimes you have to make additions or changes. Before you do, keep in mind that if you are editing the header.php file of the main theme, then updates to that theme can cause your changes to be overwritten. To avoid this, you'll need to create a child theme. Here's a tutorial to help you do just that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ Once you've created the child theme you'll want to duplicate the header.php file into it by following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebGrw1h6Hog Once you have the header.php file there we can get to work. If you've followed the tutorials above you can now dive into header file and started editing. If you didn't create a child theme, then there are a couple ways to find and edit the header.php file. First, when in your WordPress dashboard you can click on the Appearance menu and then Editor. On the right side of the page you will the list of files in the theme. One of them will be called header.php. Click on that file and it open it so you can edit the WordPress header. Or you can go through the file manager in your cPanel account. Once in the file manager navigate to wp-content/themes/YOURTHEME. The header.php file is normally in the root of a themes directory. You can also connect via FTP to make edits to files. Now that you've found the header.php it goes without saying that you need to be careful. One wrong move in a PHP file and your whole site will go down until you fix the problem. So only edit the WordPress header if you are comfortable with PHP. I hope this information helps you! Margin and Padding Deep Dive: Collapsing margins, resets, and CSS box-sizing

23:00
Collapsing margins are easily one of the most confusing behaviours for people who are just getting into CSS, mainly because it's really not very intuitive at all. In this video, I look at what collapsing margins are, and how you can deal with them. After that, I also look at using a global reset of margin and padding so that we don't have to deal with the defaults, which can really help out beginners. And lastly, we look at the box-sizing property, and it can be used to change the way padding (and border) are calculated, all which make our life a lot easier. This video is all about trying to really understand the more nuanced parts of CSS margins and padding, so that you don't run into strange behaviours and being able to change a few settings to make your life a lot easier. CSS reset, NodeJS and Mocha: FrontEnd news (12 Dec'18)

06:06
Hi! Let's talk today about CSS reset, NodeJS and Mocha. I'm Anatol and you are watching the Good Parts of the Frontend development. If this is your first time here and you wanna learn Frontend and JavaScript, start right now by subscribing and don’t forget to turn on the subtitles. 1) https://css-tricks.com/the-ecological-impact-of-browser-diversity/ You've probably heard that Microsoft Edge is switching to Chromium from EdgeHTML. That might be good. However, in the article "The Ecological Impact of Browser Diversity" Rachael Nabors explains why that might be bad for progress. 2) https://css-tricks.com/preventing-content-reflow-from-lazy-loaded-images/ James Steinbach in his turn posted an article titled "Preventing Content Reflow From Lazy-Loaded Images." Here he describes how to avoid change dimensions within the existing page layout and a reflow process. 3) https://bitsofco.de/a-look-at-css-resets-in-2018/ "A Look At CSS Resets in 2018" by Ire Aderinokun is a short introduction to the reasons for discarding styles. Also, you can read how to strike a balance between removing opinionated styling and staying as consistent as possible. 4) https://medium.com/maxime-heckel/rebuilding-redux-with-hooks-and-context-e16b59faf51c "Rebuilding Redux with Hooks and Context" is a brief investigation into how both hooks and the Context API can be used to build a simple global state management package. 5) https://overreacted.io/why-do-we-write-super-props/ Dan Abramov has started a personal blog called Overreacted. The first post here is titled "Why Do We Write super(props)?" The author explains React concepts in a clear and straightforward manner. 6) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_H6td2GaW3I "The Art of Building Node.js Projects at Scale." In this video, an IBM engineer tells the tale of building LoopBack 4 using Node and TypeScript. 7) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te3Zm4bHBVs Things got easier! In this video Jake and Surma dive into features that have made web development easier. Including inheritance, destructuring, event delegation, etc. 8) https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2018/11/a-complete-guide-to-routing-in-angular/ "A Complete Guide To Routing in Angular" is an introduction to Angular Router and using it to create client-side apps and Single Page Apps with routing and navigation. You can read this article at Smashing Magazine. 9) https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2018/07/css-grid-2/ One more interesting guide at Smashing magazine is titled "CSS Grid Level 2: Here Comes Subgrid." Here you can take a look and understand about a new upcoming Grid CSS feature namely "subgrid." Rachel Andrew wrote about Specification, Line Numbering, Gaps. etc. 10) https://www.coreycleary.me/explain-javascript-unit-testing-like-im-five/ The next point in my list is a comprehensive guide "Explain JavaScript unit testing like I’m five." In case you haven't started testing your code, here you can learn how to do that using Mocha and Chai. 11) https://www.robinwieruch.de/why-graphql-advantages-disadvantages-alternatives/ Let me draw your attention to the article "Why GraphQL: Advantages, Disadvantages & Alternatives." This tutorial is part 1 of 2 in this series, and the author explains the strong and weak sides of GraphQL architecture in comparison with RESTfull one. 12) https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2018/12/background-fetch Jake Archibald in his turn posted a tutorial "Introducing Background Fetch." Using this experimental feature, you can perform long-running fetches in the background, hear about the result in your service worker and see progress and pause or cancel a fetch. 13) http://jamesthom.as/blog/2018/10/30/finding-photos-on-twitter-using-face-recognition/ In case you are interested in TensorFlow.js you might like a following article namely "Finding Photos on Twitter using Face Recognition with TensorFlow.js" by James Thomas. 14) https://logrocket.com/blog/switching-to-parcel-from-webpack/ In the article "Switching to Parcel from Webpack" by Sunil Sandhu you can read how to take a Webpack config that handles your day-to-day code and do it with Parcel instead. 15) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFZ-pwErSl4 The last but not least point for today is "The Most Annoying Website." TLC | Self Care Routine ♥️

01:51
Grab a coffee & come chill with me✨ Sharing a look at my #selfcare routine that I try to sneak in every week or two! It makes me feel SO revived and kinda hits the reset button on some of the beauty routines that make me feel girly & good inside💕 Have you had ’YOU time’ lately? Everything’s really easy and so I felt this video shared the routine pretty accurately😁 Other than the fact that I normally touch up my pink hair in the shower 🚿 SKIN Sand & Sky Flash Perfection Exfoliating Treatment was used to prep my skin for the rest of my routine. I jump between this and the Pink Australian Clay Mask and use one (or the other) once a week. The pink clay mask works fabulously as a spot treatment👌🏼 🚨 If you have dry skin you will want to use a super moisturizing moisturizer afterwards and really hydrate your skin to combat the drying effects of the mask. Check out Sand & Sky Products below & use code ‘KRYSTAL’ to save 10% https://www.sandandsky.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjwscDpBRBnEiwAnQ0HQJLQIs-9XdAilOSKatujjF4o_i7wUNcVE1lWwPrx1c23Fzu14GS01xoChIAQAvD_BwE After I rinsed the mask off with warm water I then pat my skin dry and apply Skin Ceuticals #skinceuticals Phloretin CF & C E Ferulic. I use both day & night and have seen such great results from the integration of this product over the last 2 years! Skin Ceuticals here https://www.skinceuticals.ca A new product to my routine is the Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream and I’m loving the moisture it gives my skin! I use this cream at night only or on days where I’m not wearing makeup & need more moisture! I don’t personally like wearing this under my makeup as it is quite heavy. I used the remainder on my elbows to help achieve more even tan coverage but you’ll probably just want to use regular lotion because Tatcha is expensive as balls🤑😂 Tatcha Products here https://www.tatcha.com/product/DS-CREAM.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwscDpBRBnEiwAnQ0HQPCGGU4OpvGU6EgAqJWyDEF0eg5BQqRhrNi3n6JX4PzCfVPryDglVhoCVCsQAvD_BwE HAIR For my hair I used Davines Alchemic Conditioner in ‘red’ mixed with Schwarzkopf BC Bonacure Peptide Repair Rescue conditioner for damaged hair. But ANY white conditioner will do, It just helps you to see the tone & colour more accurately! I like to apply the mixture to wet hair as it goes further, is easiest applied in the shower for application and quick rinsing👌🏼 I have to touch up my hair once a week and that’s when I wash my hair twice in that week (which is my average) and usually apply it more pink than I want so it has room to fade out without too much maintenance 💕 TAN For my tan I used Loving Tan #lovingtan in Dark. I’ve been using this tan for about 3 years and it’s been hit & miss with the results! Lol sometimes I love the tan achieved and others I feel like a streaky oompah loompah 😳😂 Just make sure you prep prior to application, this tan can be VERY streaky and wears off a bit weird 😅 But overall it’s decent and does the job🤷🏼‍♀️ Anyone have really good tanning products to recommend?! FASHION & JEWELRY Nothing quite beats a good outfit to pop on after you’ve refreshed your look😍 Am I right ladies?! I’m wearing a romper I was gifted from Finding July and paired it with a necklace from Dynamite (it’s one of 3 that came in the set) I don’t believe this romper is available yet but definitely check out https://www.findingjuly.ca to see all the cute styles she has in stock! 🎶 Wishes By Grant Feat McCall Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/4H1FdAyWZBNzwcHFQYeGy6?si=4U7eZk9ZR_SmKI4H4GuyJA

Tesla Model 3: Top 20 Tips & Tricks!

12:58
Top 20 Tesla Model 3 tips & tricks for owners! Ordering a Model 3? Get FREE Supercharging ➡️http://geni.us/t3sla 303 Protectant Spray on Amazon: http://geni.us/XPp9G Best Model 3 accessories on Amazon: http://geni.us/tV1EvF Hard/Soft Reboot: Sometimes something will freeze up on the touchscreen or for example if the web browser doesn't work, you can soft reboot the touchscreen by pressing & holding both scroll buttons (can continue to drive the car while touchscreen reboots). The hard reboot involves pressing both scroll buttons while pressing the brake which reboots the touchscreen and the car itself and during the hard reboot the car cannot be driven until it comes backup. Quick App Viewer: Swipe up on App Switcher to bring up the last app that was opened. Swiping also works on music icon. Another useful way to minimize music app, tap album art to move the music player up/down instead of tapping music icon or swiping the player. Can also swipe left/right to quickly adjust climate control temperature and same with volume. Quick Navigation: Drag down or right on Navigate button to go Home/Work depending on your current location Quick Climate Control: When the defroster or defogger is enabled, instead of turning it off by pressing the defroster icon again which leaves the climate control on - you can hold down the fan icon which turns off climate control and the defroster to help you maximize your range efficiency if you don't need the climate control on. Accurate Projected Range: For a more accurate estimation of your projected range, instead of going off the Rated range next to the battery, look at the energy app and go off the projected range it shows on the average range screen based on your last 30 miles. Quick Speed Limit: When on Autopilot, tap the Speed Limit icon to set Autopilot to that speed Quick Set Speed: We all know scroll wheels can adjust set speed (1 notch for 1mph or quick scroll for 5mph). When you’re on cruise control you can press the accelerator up to a certain speed and then scroll up on the right scroll wheel and it will send cruise to that speed AutoPilot Alert Dismiss: On Autopilot, instead of nudging the wheel if it prompts you, you can alternatively toggle the right scroll button one mile up/down to dismiss the alert. Auto Park: When you are in drive and you come to a stop (Hold) the car will automatically put itself in Park if you open the door. Quick Gear Shift: To shift into reverse when you’re in drive (& vice versa) you don’t have to press the brake as long as you’re going 5mph or less Maximize Battery Life: Set charge limit below 90% for daily driving to maximize the life of the battery Windshield Wipers: Press windshield wiper button on left stalk to bring up the wiper icon on the touch screen (what I would love to see is the ability to double-press the wiper button to enable the wipers) Bug Report: Press voice activation scroll wheel and say "Bug report" and say whatever bug or software recommendation you have and it will automatically send it to Tesla's software team 12V Socket: You may not have noticed but the Model 3 does have a 12V accessory socket inside the armrest. Due to the location it’s actually hidden quite well. The port does not have power when the car is in sleep mode. AutoPilot Tip: Set your steering wheel & seat & save it to your driver profile in such a way that you can comfortably rest each of your elbows on either side for one handed Autopilot Interior Protection: Use 303 protectant spray on the dash and glovebox to prevent scratches/scuffs Turn Off Seat Warmers: When remotely turning on heat from app, hold down on drivers seat to turn off all seat warmers (they all turn on by default) Romance Mode Without Heat: If you want to activate Romance Mode but you want to turn off the heat, you can't do it from the touchscreen but you can do it from the app Phone Easter Egg: Hold down phone icon to change from "Call" to "Ahoy hoy" Quick Charge Port Unlock: Gently tap the rear door handle to unlock the charging port (This may be fixed in a software update soon) Subscribe! http://goo.gl/RqU0nl Twitter http://Twitter.com/slye Instagram http://instagram.com/slye Website http://MyTechMethods.com Share this video! https://youtu.be/I5-TG0Uc5Lc Thanks for watching my video: Tesla Model 3: Top 20 Tips & Tricks Royalty-free music: YouTube Audio Library

Let's Build: A Consultancy Website - Part 17 - Styling The Home Page Header

31:29
Hi, My name is Andy Leverenz. I design, code, and am an author of things. Check out my agency called Couple of Creatives https://coupleofcreatives.com and my blog Web-Crunch https://web-crunch.com🤘🏻 ========== Styling our home page header begins in part 17 of the Let's Build: A Consultancy Website series. ## The beginning of a pattern emerges In part 17, you'll start to see a pattern form. I create fields within Kirby and output to the page in specific sections which correlate to our design. The first section we are working on is the home page header. Here I had to learn a bit about how to best output images and to decide the best path to take for recreating our static design in responsive form. ## Gotchas A big gotcha for me was getting the full `url` of any regular image field on the `$page` object. The header image in our design needed to be positioned in such a way that required me to create an inline style. With a bit of `CSS` and some fancy Kirby PHP, I was finally able to achieve my goal. ## Other things that took place Along the way, I create a variety of sass files and imports as well as discussed Sass mixins and how I go about using them in my projects. I included typography from Google Fonts (https://fonts.google.com/) as well as a browser reset style sheet normalize.css (https://necolas.github.io/normalize.css/). ========== 💻 Previously published at: https://web-crunch.com/lets-build-consultancy-website-part-17/ 💻 Check out the blog: https://web-crunch.com 💡 👫 Check out my agency: https://coupleofcreatives.com 🚀 Links: Weekly Newsletter: https://web-crunch.com/subscribe Twitter: https://twitter.com/webcrunchblog Twitter(Personal Account): https://twitter.com/justalever Facebook: https://facebook.com/webcrunchblog Dribbble: https://dribbble.com/justalever Github: https://github.com/justalever Medium: https://medium.com/the-web-crunch-publication 📘Check out my book on UX Design: "LUXD: Learn User Experience Design" https://web-crunch.com/books/luxd 📙 Check out my FREE book on Tumblr Theming: "Pro Tumblr Theming" https://web-crunch.com/books/ptt 📌Recommended Stuff I Use to Shoot Video: Canon EOS Rebel SL1 - http://amzn.to/2m3EZDH Linco Lighting Set - http://amzn.to/2mF8Shs Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 - http://amzn.to/2mpqzBk Rode NT-USB Condenser Microphone - http://amzn.to/2mFhaG9 💯 Need awesome web hosting? 44: How to create a complete login system in PHP (NEW VIDEO LINKED IN DESC!) | PHP tutorial

01:28:36
UPDATED 2018 VIDEO LINK HERE! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC9GaXkdxF8 How to create a complete login system in PHP. In this PHP tutorial you will learn how to create an simple PHP login system from scratch, and how to show content after being logged in. In this PHP login tutorial, you will learn about error handlers, and MySQLi databases, which includes how to make a login form and a signup form. READ THIS FIRST!!! I am aware that we need to connect to the database using Prepared Statements in order to make the login system more secure. This video was uploaded before I had taught prepared statements in this course, which is why I left it out of this video. So if you wish to see how it is done using Prepared Statements, you can do so in my downloadable lesson files, or watch my "prepared statements" lesson a few episodes back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4JYwRIjX6c ALSO, for the people who ask why I didn't use PDO to connect to the database, I want to remind everyone that PDO is used in Object Oriented PHP ONLY! Therefore we can't use it in this episode since we are doing procedural programming. ERRORS YOU MIGHT RUN INTO!!! 1: "signup=empty" If you keep getting a "signup=empty" message after creating the signup script and trying it out, it is very likely caused by the mysqli_real_escape_string() function. To fix this, remove this function completely and instead use prepared statements. If this didn't work, make sure you wrote "mysqli_connect" and NOT "mysql_connect" in the dbh.inc.php file! 2: "unexpected }" If you get this error message: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '}' Then it is because you forgot to close a ) somewhere. 3: "unexpected ;" If you get this error message: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ';' Then it is because you forgot to close a } somewhere. 4: "hashed pwd error" If you get an error in the script when you hash the password, then it is because you decided not to follow my steps exactly in the video when I created the database table. Make sure you DON'T set the varchar() to a lower value! When you hash the password it will take up a lot of space in this column, and if you set a lower number then it won't fit! 5: "signup=success but database is empty?" Here there might be a few reasons for your error. 1st is that you made a syntax/spelling mistake in your code. And yes you will claim that your code is identical to mine, but in 80% of the cases people claim this, I still find a syntax error in their code. So check your code for errors! 2nd reason is that MAMP seems to cause a lot of issues for people. Therefore try using XAMPP and make sure you write the same as me in the dbh.inc.php file. 3nd reason might be because you didn't follow the tutorial 100% when we set up the database at the beginning. MAKE SURE that you don't set the values of the columns lower than mine (user_pwd varchar(256) not null). Otherwise the password won't fit in the column after we hash it! 6: "HTTP ERROR 500" HTTP ERROR 500 is a server error, meaning that you are most likely using an outdated version of apache or mysql. Try updating your servers and make sure that you are using the latest version of PHP. Lecture 7 Normalize vs Reset What is the difference

04:06
Welcome to PSD to HTML5 & CSS3! I want to start by saying thank you for signing up for this course. In my opinion, the best way to learn how to build a website is by getting your hands dirty. This is the very way I learned how to build my very first website, and I want to share with you a course that is crafted and curated to set you on your way to website building success. Let's get started! In this course we are going to be hand-coding a single-page website in valid HTML5 and CSS3. We will be working off of a simple Photoshop Mockup. The mockup is designed with a common layout, and is simple enough to teach basic coding techniques and conventions. To start building your HTML5 & CSS3 website, you're going to need a few things: Adobe Photoshop CS3 or higher (free trial version here) A code editor TextWrangler * — Free BBEdit Coda 2 (highly recommended) CodeRunner Taco Edit Espresso Sublime Text 2 (for Windows users) A very basic understanding of HTML (and/or HTML5) It would be good to brush up on HTML here: http://www.htmldog.com/guides/htmlbeginner/ You can learn a thing or two about HTML5 with these useful infographics A very basic understanding of CSS (and/or CSS3) For CSS beginners, have a look through this website and then come right back: http://www.htmldog.com/guides/cssbeginner/ You can brush up on important elements of CSS3 with this infographic A web browser I recommend Google Chrome, or Apple Safari as these browsers have the most support for HTML5 and CSS3 Bonus (not required) Slicy — Automates the Photoshop "slicing" process, if you are looking for a quick way to slice up your Photoshop Mockups, Slicy will help immensely. You will also need the Photoshop Mockup in order to follow along. The PSD file is attached to this lecture, go ahead and download the PSD and save it on your Desktop (or somewhere easy to find). * It's good to note that if you will be using TextWrangler as your code editor of choice during this course, there are differences in the User Interface from the code editor I will be using, which is Coda 2. Should you find yourself confused at any point, or afraid you're missing something because of the differences in our code editors, don't panic! Just pause the video, and ask a question in the Questions Section of that lecture, and I will do my absolute best to answer your question within a reasonable amount of time—if not immediately.
