Ana Kasparian (http://www.twitter.com/AnaKasparian) and John Iadarola (https://twitter.com/jiadarola) filling in for Cenk Uygur (http://www.twitter.com/cenkuygur) host of The Young Turks discuss Rolling Stones Magazine retracting a story that was fabricated about a girl that had been raped at a Fraternity at the University of Virginia. "A Columbia University study recently found that an article titled 'A Rape On Campus' by Sabrina Rubin Erdely published by Rolling Stones Magazine about a supposed rape that occurred at a University of Virginia Frat was riddled with errors and was really just a terrible example of journalism over all. Rolling Stones has removed the article as it can not be proven that it factually ever even happened. Among the many errors the article contained some included only citing one point of view and one source and not actually bothering to fact check any of the story. Charlottesville police investigated the story and after interviewing seventy people found that there was no evidence that any type of rape activity had ever occurred when it was supposed to have happened." Should allegations of rape be investigated more than they currently are? Let us know what you think in the comments section below. Watch an exclusive clip from Rolling Stone: Stories From the Edge. Rolling Stone: Stories From The Edge chronicles the last 50 years of American music, politics and popular culture through the story of the magazine that understood rock ‘n’ roll was more than music — it was a cultural force that re-shaped America. Drawing on previously unheard recordings provided by some of Rolling Stone's greatest writers, as well as original interviews, rare photos and footage, the series is an inside look at how Rolling Stone helped shape the zeitgeist and has endured for a half-century. Rolling Stone: Stories From The Edge is narrated by Jeff Daniels and directed by Oscar-winner Alex Gibney (HBO’s Taxi to the Dark Side and Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief) and Emmy-winner Blair Foster (HBO’s George Harrison: Living in the Material World), featuring an original interview with Bruce Springsteen and rare archival interviews with John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Britney Spears, David Bowie and many more, and features Johnny Depp as the voice of Hunter S. Thompson. Rolling Stone: Stories From The Edge showcases the groundbreaking work of its writers, spotlighting Rolling Stone’s impact on society. Subscribe for more awesomeness: http://goo.gl/AaoHZH. Buy Diamond Tremolo Now: https://goo.gl/8AyHAH The Rolling Stones "Gimme Shelter" guitar lesson. Today we're using the Diamond Tremolo to reproduce the chilling stutter and laid back groove from Keith's guitar. The Diamond Tremolo has a tapered square waveform available that gives the effect a special asymmetrical wobble, something standard sine wave tremolos won't do. The first key to getting the tone in Gimme Shelter is the Open E tuning, which allows for easy suspended and one finger chords. Actually, there are only 3 main chords (C#,B,A) in this tune but Keith Richards add so much variety in each measure that you could spend all day figuring out the subtle changes of notes and accents. Finally, the key to getting the right groove is to match the song's beat with a double pulse of the tremolo (1-2,1-2,1,2...), a simple task when using the Diamond Tremolo's tap tempo feature. So, tune up and enjoy your riff of the day guitar lesson!

The sale of the struggling Rolling Stone has reportedly drawn "robust" interest from media companies, billionaire investors and publishers. The Wenner family decided to sell the 50-year-old legacy magazine after coming to the conclusion that it needs significant investment in digital distribution in order to remain viable, the New York Times reports. While the magazine still faces ramifications from an error-filled story concerning a gang rape at the University of Virginia three years ago, it was once considered one of the premier illustrations of the music industry, as well as popular culture. Rolling Stone publishes about 18 times a year and reported a paid circulation of 1.47 million in the first half of 2017. It also publishes 12 international editions, which reach a worldwide audience of over 65 million people. We took a look at some of the most iconic Rolling Stone covers of all-time. Buy Now: https://goo.gl/GFjdno The Rolling Stones, "Tumbling Dice" guitar lesson. Today we're using a Lovepedal Tweed Twin to add a rich overdrive to the Tele's neck pickup. Like many riffs from Keith, the tuning for Tumbling Dice starts in open G but shifts to B with a capo on the 4th fret. Using a capo allows for more open strings to be used, which adds to the jangly sound of the opening riff. Keith Richards lends his famous combination of one finger and suspended chords to the pre-chorus while the chorus employs more bluesy pulloffs with open strings in a similar fashion to the opening riff. Furthermore, the Lovepedal Tweed Twin overdrive with a medium gain setting adds an old school flavor to the neck pickup without flubbing out or losing important string definition. Enjoy your daily guitar lesson.

The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time was the cover story of a special issue of Rolling Stone magazine published in November 2004, The song list was chosen based on votes by 172 musicians, critics, and music industry figures. With 23 songs on the list, The Beatles are the most represented musical act. John Lennon is the only artist to place multiple songs in the top 10 (as a member of the Beatles and as a solo artist). The Beatles are followed by The Rolling Stones (14 entries); Bob Dylan (12); Elvis Presley (11); The Beach Boys and Jimi Hendrix (seven each); and Chuck Berry, U2, James Brown, Prince, Led Zeppelin and Sly & the Family Stone (six each). To make videos of the five parts of this list, I've decided to play only the name of each song - whenever it's possible - (thanks for the idea Mcguffin !), so it's pretty fast, the other videos you've already seen on Youtube (who are not by me) are from the German version of the magazine, but here's the official list. I love all kinds of music. And I go into every album wanting to love it, so that’s my starting point for every review. Keep in mind, though, that music is a very personal thing. An album may hit me personally in a very different way than it hits you. That’s complexly natural and unavoidable, which is why I try to include some personal context in my reviews. It’s so you’ll have a better idea where I’m coming from. In the end, it’s still just my personal opinion, which is inherently biased, and which you may or may not agree with. Hopefully, once in a while, we’ll find common ground. Lovepedal High Power twin tweed Buy Now: https://goo.gl/Muf6RR The Rolling Stones "Jumping Jack Flash" guitar lesson. Today we're using the Lovepedal High Power Tweed Twin with a low gain setting to give a harmonically rich rhythm tone to a Fender Custom Shop Telecaster. Keith is said to have recorded this on an acoustic with open D tuning and a capo on the 2nd fret (E) but can also be seen playing it live with an open G tuning and a capo on the 4th . In order to give a single guitar the versatility to play the main and overdubbed parts, a tuning of open E does the job well. One finger chords a always a benefit of open tunings and with the right technique, you can continue the chords of the chorus and layer the melody over the top for a complex sound by your lonesome. Enjoy your riff of the day guitar lesson!

With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats You can't say we're satisfied But Angie, Angie, you can't say we never tried Angie, you're beautiful, but ain't it time we said good-bye? Angie, I still love you, remember all those nights we cried? All the dreams we held so close seemed to all go up in smoke Let me whisper in your ear: Angie, Angie, where will it lead us from here? Oh, Angie, don't you weep, all your kisses still taste sweet I hate that sadness in your eyes But Angie, Angie, ain't it time we said good-bye? With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats You can't say we're satisfied But Angie, I still love you, baby Ev'rywhere I look I see your eyes There ain't a woman that comes close to you Come on Baby, dry your eyes But Angie, Angie, ain't it good to be alive? Angie, Angie, they can't say we never tried #Cover

Gimme Shelter – Never released as a single but #38 on Rolling Stones Magazine great songs of all-time. Jagger said in a 1995 interview: Well, it's a very rough, very violent era. Vietnam. It was real tough, and people didn't like it. People objected, and people didn't want to fight it ... That's a kind of end-of-the-world song, really. 2. Love in Vain – Blues song written by Robert Johnson. Critic Richie Unterberger describes it as "as close to the roots of acoustic down-home blues as the Stones ever got." 3. Country Honk - A country version of "Honky Tonk Women", released five months after that single. 4. Live With Me – Was the first song recorded with the band's new guitarist Mick Taylor, who joined the band in June 1969. 5. Let It Bleed – The lyrics include a number of drug and intimate references. However, it is mainly about "emotional dependency," with Jagger willing to accept a partner who wants to lean "on him for emotional support." 6. Midnight Rambler – Is a loose biography of Albert DeSalvo, who confessed to being the Boston Strangler. Keith Richards has called the number "a blues opera" and the quintessential Jagger-Richards song, stating in the 2012 that "nobody else could have written that song." 7. You Got The Silver –Is the first Stones song to feature Richards on solo lead vocal throughout (Richards previously sang separate lead vocals on parts of a few songs). One of Richards' own compositions, is said to have been written about his then-girlfriend Anita Pallenberg. 8. Monkey Man – The introduction features distinctive vibraphone, bass and guitar, as well as piano; it came between the band's firing of Brian Jones and the hiring of Mick Taylor on lead guitar 9. You Can’t Always Get What You Want – Ranked #100 on Rolling Stone magazine’s "500 Greatest Songs of All Time." The three verses (and the varied theme of the fourth verse) address major topics of the 1960s: love, politics, and drugs. Each verse captures the essence of the initial optimism and eventual disillusion, followed by the resigned pragmatism of the chorus. Favorite Tracks: You Can’t Always Get What you Want, Gimme Shelter, Let It Bleed, Midnight Rambler Overall Score: 8.5/10 (Trey), 8.25/10 (Shawn) Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
