Ukraine claims Russia is blockading its Azov sea ports

05:09
(2 Dec 2018) Ukrainian authorities claim Russia is blockading its ports in the Sea of Azov. The country's minister of infrastructure said on Sunday that no Ukrainian ships heading to or from the ports in Mariupol and Berdyansk have been allowed in over the last seven days. "All vessels which were entering Azov Sea in direction of seaport (of) Mariupol and Berdyansk were stopped by Russians," said Volodymyr Omelyant. Dockers at Berdyansk port also said that ships were much less frequent at the Azov Sea ports. "(The ships) rarely come. You can see that there are no vessels," said docker Vitaliy Sinhur. The seizure of three Ukrainian naval vessels and their crews last week stunned local workers, both civil and military.   "I’m worried (for sailors detained in the Kerch Strait) because we overcame together many things," said the captain of the Kremenchug smaller armoured gunboat, the same as that detained in the Kerch Strait. The three ships were trying to pass through from the Black Sea into the Sea of Azov through the narrow Kerch Strait between Russia’s mainland and Crimea. The Russian coast guard refused to let them pass and after many tense hours of maneuvering fired on the Ukrainian boats and seized them along with their 24 crewmen. Ukraine has imposed entry restrictions on Russian men amid the spiraling conflict and called western countries to boost their presence in the Black Sea to deter Russia from further aggressive actions. Russian troops take control of military airport in the Black Sea port

01:29
Dozens of unidentified gunmen blocked access to a military airport in the Black Sea port of Sevastopol on Friday. However, a Russian military officer was seen entering the airport compound in a civilian vehicle with Russian military plates. A Russian flag on his jacket including the markings of a colonel in the Russian military. The officer was stopped at gunpoint by the unidentified gunmen. After several minutes they allowed the officer to pass. Earlier on Friday, Ukraine's new interior minister, Arsen Avakov, claimed that Russian troops had taken control of the two main airports in the strategic peninsula of Crimea. The country has also asked the UN Security Council to intervene in the escalating conflict. Russian state media said Russian forces in Crimea denied involvement. No violence was reported at the civilian airport in Crimea's capital of Simferopol or at the military airport in the Black Sea port of Sevastopol, also part of Crimea. At the Simferopol airport, a man claiming to speak for the camouflage-clad forces patrolling the airport described them as Crimean militiamen. Any Russian military incursion in Crimea would dramatically raise the stakes in Ukraine's conflict, which saw the pro-Russian president flee last weekend after three months of anti-government protests. Moscow has vowed to protect Russian-speaking Ukrainians in Crimea, where it has a major naval base, and Ukraine and the West have warned Russia to stay away. All flights at the civilian airport in Simferopol have stopped. Television footage - shot some 4 kilometres (about 2.5 miles) outside the city - showed Russian soldiers taking ground positions and moving in armoured vehicles. A Georgian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Thursday that Russian troops had moved back into Poti, from where they had appeared to leave earlier. The city is home to an oil terminal that is key to Georgia's fragile economic health. On Wednesday Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov denied that Russian troops were anywhere near the city. Russia and its small neighbour had agreed on Tuesday to a French-brokered cease-fire to end the dispute that began over two pro-Russian breakaway territories. The United States accuses Russia of pressing the war far beyond the initial conflict zone and threatening the democratically elected government in Georgia. Russia's 'blockade' of Sea of Azov port angers Ukraine

01:07
Huge cranes that once used to unload ships' cargo sit idle on the docks of Ukraine's commercial port of Mariupol on the Sea of Azov. The small sea is located in a zone of heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine: on the border of the Crimean peninsula annexed by Russia. As tensions escalate, Kiev and the West accuse Russia of deliberately blocking ships from accessing Ukraine's port.

Peter & Paul Fortress & Neva River Cruise Tour: From 1721 the Peter and Paul Fortress housed part of the city's garrison and served as a high security political jail. Among the inmates was Peter's own rebellious son, Alexei, plus Gorky, Trotsky and Lenin's older brother, Alexander. Views of the impressive Peter and Paul Cathedral, the burial place of all the Russian Emperors and Empresses from Peter the Great to Nicholas II. On top of the Cathedral’s gilded spire stands a magnificent golden angel holding a cross. This weathervane is one of the most prominent symbols of St. Petersburg. From the pier, not far from the Peter and Paul Fortress, cruising along the Neva River, you’ll see some of the city’s famous landmarks, including the former Stock Exchange flanked by two Rostral Columns, the State Hermitage Museum including the Winter Palace, the famous cruiser Aurora, the Bronze Horseman and the St. Isaac Cathedral. Flowing through the city of St. Petersburg, the River Neva is an essential part of its charm, and has played an important part in numerous historical events. The width of the river ranges from an impressive 1,300 to 2,000 feet, however near the Peter and Paul Fortress and the Hermitage it exceeds 2,600 feet wide. In preparation for the Navy Day celebration of July 30, 2017, naval ships are moored in the Neva River.

USC — the largest shipbuilding company in Russia: commercial products

03:38
The United Shipbuilding Corporation is an open joint stock company established on March 21, 2007 in accordance with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Decree # 394. 100% of its shares are publicly owned. The Corporation is the largest shipbuilding company in Russia employing over 80,000 people. It includes about 40 domestic shipyards, design offices and ship repair yards. USC’s enterprises operate in all major port and transportation hubs of the country — from Kaliningrad in the west to Vladivostok in the east and from Severodvinsk in the north to Astrakhan in the south. USC has consolidated over 80% of design and production capacities of the industry and is the leader in shipbuilding across the area stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Pacific Ocean. USC’s design offices are responsible for almost all warships that are built and developed for the Russian Navy and foreign customers. Moreover, our naval materiel and weapons are traditionally distinguished by high reliability combined with combat efficiency, easy maintenance and low cost operation. Along with implementing state defense order for the Russian Navy and export orders under MTC agreements, the Corporation builds a modern fleet for operations at sea, in offshore and inland waterways. At the same time, meeting local companies’ demands for icebreakers, transport, research, rescue and auxiliary vessels, as well as a wide range of marine equipment for continental shelf development is the largest industrial challenge facing USC in civil shipbuilding. Shaping our export policy, we focus on the areas of international cooperation that encompass the entire lifecycle of naval products: market research, specifications preparation, design, production planning, manufacturing, delivery, operation and disposal. We are the shipbuilding professionals with unique experience of successful Arctic development, construction and support of one of the most capable fleets in the world.

Sochi Seaport

02:44
Sochi’s sea-gate is 1.5 kilometres away from the railway station. The sea terminal, which is on the official architectural landmarks list, looks like a real palace. The former Marina, now a shopping and amusement centre, was built in the mid-20th century to the design of Karo Alabian and Leonid Karlik. With its majestic colonnade, open terraces, broad stairways and arches, and its 70-metre tower with a steeple, it is quite reminiscent of St. Petersburg’s Admiralty. The central tower is adorned with a sculptural composition: the female statues represent seasons of the year, the male statues stand for the cardinal points, and the dolphins symbolize the opulence of the Black Sea coast. Following a massive rebuilding and the addition of some new buildings on the northern pier, Sochi’s passenger port is now the largest in the Black Sea region. It remains open for supersize ships all year round. Global cruise expos and regattas take place here on a regular basis. There are two noteworthy monuments next to the port. The one in the park across from the rotunda commemorates Peter I, the emperor who expanded Russia so that it gained access to the three seas: Baltic, Azov and Black. He did not, however, build any navy on the Black Sea, like he did on the Baltic Sea. The second monument, standing in the shade of some sycamores by the southern pier, depicts the seeing-off of the main characters of Soviet cult comedy Diamond Arm on their overseas cruise. That scene was actually filmed at the Sochi port. Central District, Ulitsa Voykova, 1 7 (862) 260 96 46, 7 (862) 260 96 03 http://morport-sochi.ru Google maps https://goo.gl/maps/Hfb5uik2NAq

Russia Is Profiting Off Global Warming | VICE on HBO

12:10
While many parts of the world are struggling from catastrophic effects of climate change, Russia is looking to capitalize on it, with the Kremlin driving a narrative that touts the economic benefits. Like more and faster access to petroleum and mineral reserves that were previously unreachable. The Northern Sea Passage, a legendary shipping lane along Russia’s Arctic coastline, has been largely inaccessible for part of the year because of dense sea ice. But now, that ice is melting, opening up a new trade route for Russia's cargo ships. Russian oil companies are already betting big on the new reserves they hope to find in the Russian Arctic, and other industries — like mining — are ramping up production since they now have faster shipping routes to many ports. “The problem of climate change is actually the problem of adaptation to climate change. This is not a tragedy,” said Nobel Prize-winning climatologist Oleg Anisimov. “Certainly some places will become unlivable, but other areas are places that will become more livable.” But the Russian people seem unaware, or unconcerned, about the environmental impacts of these climate change-related activities, like pollution from the booming factories, and wildfires in the North that destroyed million of acres of forest in a major tourism area. VICE’s Gianna Toboni visited Russia's Arctic to see just how big the country is betting on climate change. Russians staying longer, still in Black Sea port of Poti

01:02
SHOTLIST 1. Wide of Russian base 2. Russian soldiers milling around 3. Various of Russian soldiers digging and filling sacks 4. Mid of Russian APC driving into the base STORYLINE: Russian soldiers could be seen at their base on Sunday carrying out excavations near the Black Sea port of Poti in Georgia. Russia pulled the bulk of its troops and tanks from its small southern neighbour on Friday after a brief but intense conflict, but built up its forces in and around two separatist regions and left other military posts deep inside Georgia, including around Poti. Russian troops still held positions near Poti. Georgian port officials have said radar, Coast Guard ships and other port facilities were extensively damaged by Russian troops. The five day conflict between Russia and Georgia started when Georgian forces launched an assault on August 7 in the separatist region of South Ossetia, and Russian forces went in, sparking the war and an international crisis. Under an European Union-brokered cease-fire deal, both sides are to pull back to positions held before the fighting erupted. Western leaders have called for a complete withdrawal of Russian combat troops from Georgia, and for peacekeeping forces to resume the positions they had in South Ossetia before the conflict. But Russia said it will patrol buffer zones stretching into Georgia proper. The conflict brought Russian-U.S. relations to a post-Cold War low. No ships heading to or from the ports in Mariupol and Berdyansk have been allowed in for the last seven days, said Ukraine's minister for infrastructure. Ukraine has called on Western countries to boost their presence in the Black Sea to deter Russia from further "aggressive actions." Russia Attacked Ukrainian Ships Near Crimea. VIDEO

01:35
On November 25, 2018, Russia attacked Ukrainian navy ships in the Kerch strait near Ukrainian Crimea currently occupied by Russia. Is Russia Annexing The Azov Sea?

12:25
Tensions are escalating in the Azov Sea as historical territorial claims, botched agreements, and heightened military presence threaten the stability of the region and Ukrainian economic endeavors. The appearance of six Russian vessels – patrol personnel-carriers and draught gunboats – in mid-June, as well as FSB border checkpoints through the Kerch Strait, are signs of increasing aggression and loss of strategic balance in the region. While the situation has not yet escalated into military conflict, experts claim that Russia’s actions mark an attempt to suppress the economic activity of Ukraine’s regional ports and trade. Hromadske explores the crisis first hand, from delayed flights and shipping obstacles to possible Ukrainian responses to Russia’s de-facto blockade of Ukraine’s Azov ports. Brand driving away in vehicle STORYLINE: An oil train exploded and caught fire on Sunday in central Georgia, sending plumes of black smoke into the air. Georgian Interior Ministry spokesman Shota Utiashvili said the train had hit a mine. He said there were no casualties, but that the blast had also set off explosions at an abandoned munitions dump nearby. The Russian Defence Ministry declined to comment, saying it was not clear what had happened. Russia pulled the bulk of its troops and tanks from its small southern neighbour on Friday after a brief but intense war, but built up its forces in and around two separatist regions and left other military posts deep inside Georgia. The explosion occurred near the village of Skra, 10 kilometres (6 miles) west of Gori. At the scene, tanker cars lay in a confused jumble, some askew on the railway line and others off the tracks, some lying on their sides, while firemen hosed down the wreckage with foam. Speaking at the site, the director of Georgia's railways, Irakli Ezugbaia, agreed that the blast was probably caused by a mine. He said an investigation was under way and other mines had been found on the tracks. Ezugbaia said the train was carrying crude oil from Kazakhstan that was being transported by an Azerbaijani company. It was destined for a Georgian Black Sea port. Georgia straddles a key westward route for oil from Azerbaijan and other Caspian Sea nations including Kazakhstan, giving it added strategic importance as the U.S. and the European Union seek to decrease Russia's dominance of oil and gas exports from the former Soviet Union. Meanwhile, near the Black Sea port of Poti, Russian soldiers could be seen at their base on Sunday carrying out excavations. Russia pulled the bulk of its troops and tanks from its small southern neighbour on Friday after a brief but intense conflict, but still held positions near Poti. Georgian port officials have said radar, Coast Guard ships and other port facilities were extensively damaged by Russian troops. A U.S. Navy warship carrying humanitarian aid anchored at the Georgian port of Batumi on Sunday, sending a strong signal of support to an embattled ally. The much-needed aid and the damaged train were a stark reminder that it will take substantial amounts of aid and many months of rebuilding before Georgia can recover from the war with Russia. Five days of fighting damaged cities and towns across the country and displaced tens of thousands of Georgians. Ukraine's Sea Ports Now Operating Despite Tensions With Russia

00:36
Reuters reports Ukrainian commercial ports in Azov Sea are operating normally despite tensions between Ukraine and Russia. Russia seized three Ukrainian naval ships in Azov Sea off the coast of Russia-annexed Crimea on Sunday and Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko has asked parliament for approval to introduce martial law. Ukraine operates two sea ports in Azov Sea which specialize in shipping grain and steel. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/topNews/~3/TZQxh9v4s6w/ukraines-azov-sea-ports-operating-normally-despite-tensions-with-russia-idUSKCN1NV151 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Oleksandr Khara on Russia’s Blockade of Ukraine’s Azov Sea Ports

07:14
In addition to the war in Ukraine’s east that has left over 10,000 dead, Russia is leading another war in its neighbouring country. And this is all taking off near the Ukrainian coast of the Azov Sea. Despite the fact not a single drop of blood has been shed in this conflict, it could lead to serious unprecedented damage to Ukraine’s economy. “[Russia’s] aim is to cut the sea lanes to Ukraine,” explains Oleksandr Khara, Deputy Chair at the Black Sea Institute of Strategic Studies. “Up to 80% of [Ukraine’s] exports go via the sea. It will damage Ukraine greatly if they succeed.” According to Khara, the blockade of Ukraine’s Azov Sea ports started in April 2015 when the “illegal construction of the bridge along the Kerch Strait” began. “From that time, [Russia has been] stopping [Ukrainian] vessels and closing the sea for any movements.” Khara adds that Russia has also deployed several shallow gunboats, submarines, corvettes capable of “striking up to central Ukraine” and Kalibr missiles. “They are threatening [Ukraine] by deploying these types of assault weapons,” he says. According to the 2003 agreement signed between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s then-President Leonid Kuchma, both countries can use the Azov Sea freely. This same agreement, Khara says, allows Russia to position their vessels near the shore of Ukraine. In Khara’s opinion, annulling this agreement is one of the keys to ensuring a resolution to the conflict. Highlighting that Russia understands force well, he adds that Ukraine also needs to enforce and better equip its navy. But Russia’s actions are not just about the “passage of vessels,” Khara adds. “It's about undermining Ukrainian sovereignty, militarizing both [the Azov and the Black] seas, and then unfolding aggression in another direction.” Hromadske spoke with Oleksandr Khara, the Deputy Chair at the Black Sea Institute of Strategic Studies, about the increasing tension between Ukraine and Russia over the Ukrainian coast of the Azov Sea.

USS Caron getting rammed by the Russians in the Black Sea - Feb 1988

09:05
In February 1988, Caron operating with Yorktown, entered Soviet 7 miles ) territorial waters limit in the Black Sea off the Crimean Peninsula. Under international law, this act could be permissible if the ship was progressing from one point in international waters to another point in international waters via the shortest course possible, but according to the Soviet Union, it was the right of the USSR to authorize or prohibit travel in selected areas within the 12 mile limit. The United States however did not recognize the Soviet's claim in this case. To prevent it from becoming accepted precedent, the US Navy claimed that it had sailed warships through such areas at regular intervals in the past, which we had, not just two years prior. On this occasion, Caron had onboard a ships signal exploitation spaces system, operated by a crew of 18 in support of the U.S. National Security Agency. This system was capable of recording data on Soviet defense radars and communications. In response, the Soviets deployed a destroyer and a Mirka II class light frigate as well as a KGB and "civilian" ships to intercept the U.S. ships. Several times, Soviet vessels obtained radar "lock" on the Caron and Yorktown. Both American ships maintained a constant course and speed throughout the incident. Eventually, the Soviets lightly rammed both ships. No significant damage resulted to any of the ships involved. Both US warships sent an account of the incident to the Commander in Chief of United States Naval Forces in Europe. The Caron reported at 13:20 local time, it was informed on channel 16 VHF by the Bezzavetny: "Soviet ships have orders to prevent violation of territorial waters, extreme measure is to strike your ship with one of ours."[1] The reply of the Caron was "I am engaged in innocent passage consistent with international law."[1] The Yorktown, in its report stated that on 9:56, local time, it was contacted by the Bezzavetny via channel 16 and told to leave Soviet territorial waters or "our ship is going to strike on yours."[1] Then, according to the report, the Bezzavetny came alongside port side of the Yorktown at 10:03 and bumped it by turning into the ship.[1] As for the music, take note that this was shot on VHS and back in 1988, when we did not have Youtube. The only people we thought would see this was friends and family, not a bunch of people from all over the world. No the music is not masking the screams from the crew on the USS Caron, so if you don't like it, there is a volume button - use it Also check out the video from the USS Yorktown at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SME4w037FgA This is the video that the Russian news showed on the 10th Anniversary - All I can say is I can't believe that the Russian people believed and animated version of what happened over the real tape. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dl_WNdiShs&list=FLq9THf99pIznRTXM7P8JIWw&index=54 Also the video the Russians did on the 25th anniversary - They asked me for an interview and I declined for the very reason I that I knew they would not portray it accurately and they didn't let me down http://www.tvc.ru/showspecrep.aspx?id=e1564dbe-d8e8-4ba2-a142-218db8a6e14c Here is the Russians account of what happened http://fishki.net/19391-stalnye-jajca-sovetskogo-flota-9-foto--3-video.html

Taman sea port_english version

02:45
LLC “Seaport Taman” is Russia’s largest terminal for liquid food cargo handling. It’s a modern port complex with an oil handling deep water sea terminal, terminal port for tankers and with portside manufacture capable of processing almost every type of vegetable oil. The transshipment is dominated by: • Vegetable oil; • Beet molasses; • Sunflower meal and beet pulp. The port possesses three marine terminals allowing it to operate several vessels concurrently. The seaport has modern infrastructure and is capable of accommodating heavy-tonnage vessels with deadweight up to 46 thousand tons. The port storage facilities include 21 reservoirs with a total capacity of 92 500 m3. These facilities come with heating system and mixing devices. The handling facilities’ automatic control system allows to process 15 tanks concurrently. The main seaport Taman’s advantages are: • Year-round navigation — port’s nonfreezing water area allows it to accommodate and to dispatch vessels regardless of the time of the year and weather conditions; • Up-to-date equipment — it’s one of a few specialized terminals in Russia; • Located in between the busiest trade routes and is easily accessible (near the federal route M-25); • Has a communal infrastructure. On December 2nd, 2008 the seaport Taman accommodated its first vegetable oil tanker. Ever since, cargo transshipment ratio has been constantly increasing. In 2003, cargo turn-over was up to 900 000 tons. Since August 2010, customs checkpoint is functioning at the seaport Taman territory (Order of the Federal Agency for State Border Infrastructure Development of the Russian Federation № 398-01 dated August 24th, 2010). Moreover, the seaport Taman cooperates with the freight forwarding company “Taman-Service” to provide its clients with high-quality service and to reduce time costs of formal procedures such as custom processing, ship’s agency services and freight forwarding. The company’s staff is all experienced fleet and shore services workers. Seaport Taman professional activity meets the highest environmental standards. Moreover, the seaport conducts its own environment condition monitoring, including sea, water, air and soil. The largest Russian and international companies are among the seaport Taman’s clients. By this time a lot has been made, together we’re ready to continue developing.

SOUNDBITE (English) Eka Sharashidze, Minister of Development: "A great deal of what has been done by the US troops over the past couple of weeks has shown a strong signal to Russia and to the rest of the world that they're standing by Georgia, its democracy, its economy and Mount Whitney docking here in Poti port where Russian military still nearby, obviously it's a strong signal to Russia and to everyone else that Georgia is a sovereign country with sovereign territory and no-one else has the right to be here." 8. Wide of USS Mount Whitney 9. Various of Georgian coastguard boat STORYLINE: Georgia's development minister said on Saturday that the presence of the American warship, USS Mount Whitney, outside the Black Sea port of Poti sent a strong signal to Russia and the rest of the world that the United States was standing by her country. The flagship of the US Navy's Mediterranean fleet anchored outside the key Georgian port on Friday. "Obviously it's a strong signal to Russia and to everyone else that Georgia is a sovereign country with sovereign territory and no-one else has the right to be here," said Georgian Development Minister, Eka Sharashidze. During the war, Russian forces bombed Poti, which has a large oil shipment facility, attacked the port and sank eight Georgian naval vessels in the harbour. Hundreds of Russian troops continue to occupy an area on the city's fringes, just four miles (six kilometres) from the port but Russia insists the heavily armed soldiers are "peacekeepers." The continued presence of Russian troops has been a major point of friction between Moscow and the West. Western nations insist Russia has failed to honour a ceasefire deal to pull back to positions held before fighting broke out August 7. USS Mount Whitney was the first Navy ship to travel to Poti since Georgia's five-day war with Russia last month. The US said the Mount Whitney was on a humanitarian aid mission to Georgia but the operation has angered Moscow. Two American ships have already visited Georgia carrying humanitarian aid, but they anchored at Batumi, to the south, a smaller port where there is no Russian military presence. Russian media, Itar-Tass, reported that Moscow had doubts that the Mount Whitney mission to the Black Sea was for "a humanitarian purpose". Ships of such class can hardly bring large volumes of humanitarian aid, Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko said on Friday. Russian officials also said that US military assistance to Georgia in the past had encouraged Tbilisi to launch the offensive in South Ossetia, and alleged that the US humanitarian shipments could be a cover for weapons deliveries. US officials have dismissed those accusations and said the aid includes blankets and powered milk and that no weapons are carried on the ships. But Russian President Dmitry Medvedev sternly warned against providing more assistance to Georgia in an apparent reference to the US aid shipments and a one (b) billion US dollar aid package for Georgia announced by Washington on Wednesday. China, Russia Are to Build One of the 'Largest Ports In Northeast Asia'

01:53
http://www.undergroundworldnews.com China and Russia are to build one of the largest ports in northeast Asia on Russia's Sea of Japan coast, Chinese media reports. It is the latest step by Beijing and Moscow to bring their economies closer, and diversify from Western influence. The new seaport will be located in Russia’s Far East, just 18 kilometers away from the Chinese border and will be capable to handle up to 60 million tons of cargo a year, China's state-run People's Daily Online reported. The deal between the two countries was signed at May's Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Shanghai, the report said. Chinese booming domestic consumption makes the country search for ways to diversify its sources of energy. Russia, in turn, is seeking to refocus its trade towards Asia from western markets amid the tit-for-tat sanctions over the crisis in Ukraine. In August the two countries agreed to set up a special logistics center which will allow to sell fruit and vegetables directly to Russia, which is expected to offset any negative effect of the Russian food embargo. http://rt.com/business/186900-russia-china-huge-port/
