Thousands of shipping containers are lost from cargo vessels each year. Many of these containers eventually sink to the deep seafloor. In 2004, researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) discovered a lost shipping container almost 1,300 meters (4,200 feet) below the surface of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. In the first ever survey of its kind, researchers from MBARI and the Sanctuary recently described how deep-sea animal communities on and around the container differed from those in surrounding areas. The red dots seen in some of the underwater footage are lasers mounted on the remotely operated submersible. The lasers are 29 cm apart and allow the scientists to estimate animal size. Felixstowe Container Ship Spotting June 26, 2015 video 7 of 8 The 18,340 TEU Maersk Line Triple E container vessel MADISON MAERSK sailing into the Port of Felixstowe, United Kingdom with a full load, inbound for Asia via the Suez Canal. MADISON MAERSK is one of 20 Triple E container vessels put in service from mid 2013 to mid 2015 by Maersk Line. The "Triple E" was the world's largest container ship from June 2013 until November 2014 when China Sipping's CSCL Globe went into service. Although the Triple E is no longer the world's largest container ship, she is still very impressive to see especially when fully loaded. The name "Triple E" is derived from the class's three design principles: Economy of scale, Energy efficient, and Environmentally improved. Maersk Line is part of the M2 alliance with MSC on east-west routes. IMO Number: 9619945 Flag / Nationality: Denmark Operator: Maersk Completion Year: 2013 / 10 Maximum TEU Capacity: 18,340 Maximum Speed (Kn): 22.0 Overall Length (M): 399.00 Overall Beam (M): 59.00 Maximum Draught (M): 16.50 Deadweight (Ton): 194,394 Gross Tonnage (Ton): 194,849 Filmed at 7:20pm, Friday June 26, 2015 from the Landguard Fort in Felixstowe, United Kingdom. https://www.tngun.com/framing-wall-shipping-container/ https://www.amazon.com/Framing-Floors-Walls-Ceilings-Pros/dp/1631860054/sheschinc-20 This post shows how I went about simply framing a wall in a shipping container. I needed to build a room in the back of the shipping container that I can insulate and cool so that I won't get heat stroke working out at the land in the summer. Framing a Wall in a Shipping Container was not hard once I figured out the dimensions. An 8 foot wide box does not give a lot of room for things like doors. Basically I could put the door in the center or I could put it to the side and have about a 3 foot wall beside it. I chose the 3 foot wall so I could put my wall lockers just outside my room. Building in a shipping container has additional issues because you don't want to nail or screw into the sides or roof. A shipping container is rodent and pest tight until you start putting in holes. Luckily the floor is a very thick marine plywood so I screwed the base board into it. I also used construction adhesive. I screwed the studs into the base and glued them onto the side of the box. The top board is also glue in, but it is wedged in tightly. This isn't the best way of doing construction and my perfectionist father had a fit, but the wall is not load bearing and does not add to the strength of the structure so I can get by with how I did it.

In this video I tried to share how I framed and insulated my shipping container. I couldn't find any decent information on Youtube, so I decided to make a video of the entire process and to share. I am not a professional carpenter, neither I am an electrician. But during my life I have learned that most people are full of BS, they try to come up with rules. In reality each and every situation is different, and will require a different set of rules. This project was for myself, it doesn't have to meet any codes or requirements, I will move the container and use it in the bush, probably with a generator. For me it was important that it stays warm and looks good at the same time, and that a person in this tiny building can survive any temperatures, and survive them comfortably. PS: Part 2 is here https://youtu.be/3aMr1kmQ0SY PS2: after a few years the container still serves us very well, we had moved it few times. To all criticists - no, there is no condensation on inside walls, and there is no black mold. I think this is mostly because we live in a very dry climate. And any moisture from inside gets absorbed by the wood, and is then slowly released back, which means it just dries out.

Extensive debris has washed up on islands off the Dutch north coast after some 270 containers including chemicals fell off a cargo ship in a storm. As the extent of pollution became clear on five islands including Terschelling, coastguards searched the North Sea for missing containers. The cargo fell off the MSC Zoe near the German island of Borkum, but the tide carried many of them to the south-west. Initial images showed children's toys and TVs on Dutch beaches. But officials said three containers carried toxic substances, and Dutch and German coastguards warned local people to steer clear of them. One of those containers had a cargo of peroxide powder, and a 25kg bag of the chemical was found on the island of Schiermonnikoog on Thursday, along with several containers and their contents. The Panama-registered ship is described as the biggest in Europe, with a potential cargo of 19,000 containers. As Storm Zeetje buffeted northern Germany with gale force winds late on Tuesday night, 270 containers of Zoe's cargo fell off the ship as it made its way through the Wadden Sea from the Belgian port of Antwerp.

Installing the InSoFast horizontally with a welded nailer across the top of the side walls. You would not need a nailer on the floor because the drywall would catch the bottom stud of the InSoFast. If you are looking for maximum sq/ft on the interior of the container and want to keep the look of the shipping container on the exterior, this is the best product on the market for insulation. Thermal Control Layer The addition of InSoFast’s exterior rigid insulation can significantly improve the wall assembly thermal performance it provides a continuous insulation layer that diminishes the impact of thermal bridges caused by framing. Thermal bridging through framing components reduces envelope insulation performance by 15-20% in wood frame construction and by 40%-60% in metal frame construction. It is the adhesive we recommend. Other formulas and brands may not work as expected. The technic you are describing is called flashing. The adhesive manufacturer has other tips and suggestions: http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/pl_ca_prem/directions/Loctite-PL-Premium-Polyurethane-Construction-Adhesive.htm Preparation Use above 40°F (4°C). Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of frost, grease, dust and other contaminants. Pre-fit all materials and protect finished surfaces. If using cartridge format, cut nozzle at a 45° angle to desired bead size and puncture inner seal. Be very careful not to allow Loctite® PL® Premium to cure on a finished surface. Application Apply adhesive to one surface of the material being bonded. Press the surfaces firmly together. Materials may be repositioned within 45 minutes after applying the adhesive. If bonding two non-porous surfaces (such as foam, metal and fiberglass), add water in the form of a very light or atomized spray from a plant mister bottle to the extruded adhesive. The repositioning time will then be reduced to less than 30 minutes. Use mechanical support for 24 hours while the adhesive cures.

Container units form the most integral part of the entire shipping industry, trade, and transport. These shipping containers are the structures that store various kinds of products that need to be shipped from one part of the world to another. Moving containers protect contents on the long journeys they make and ensure they make it back to you in one piece. As such, depending on the type of products to be shipped or the special services needed from them, container units may vary in dimension, structure, materials, construction etc. various types of shipping containers are being used today to meet requirements of all kinds of cargo shipping. Some of the most common types of shipping containers in use today are mentioned in the video. 1. Dry storage container 2. Flat rack container 3. Open top container 4. Tunnel container 5. Open side storage container 6. Double doors container 7. Refrigerated ISO containers 8. Insulated or thermal containers 9. Tanks 10. Cargo storage roll container 11. Half height containers 12. In this short documentary, I tried to answer some of the common questions that I usually get about shipping. The footage I took myself using fairly basic cameras that I could fit in my pocket while I was on the job as a deckhand. The story follows me on a six month journey around the world on a container ship which was on a run between New York and Singapore via the Suez Canal. This was my first time going to sea on a large ship so everything was relatively new to me, therefore please excuse the couple of shipping terms I misused (such as saying "license" when I should have said "credential"). I have been on many ships since and will continue to ship out for the foreseeable future. Thanks for watching. Tag along as we journey through Suez Canal into Mediterranean Sea. The ship is on a 77 days voyage from Asia to East Coast United States in which we've taken the Suez Canal route. By using Suez Canal instead of around cape of Africa, this will save more than 5000 miles of fuel and time. The time-lapse was taken over 16 hours. Find out more about the Triple-E series of ships here: http://www.maersk.com/en/hardware/triple-e While the new Triple-E class is only a few meters longer and wider than the current world record holder in size, it offers no less than 16 per cent more container space due to its wider, more bulbous bow. The wide body allows room for an additional row of containers. Moving the bridge forward improves the line of sight and makes it possible to stack containers higher. Moving the engine backwards increases stability and allows for more containers below and above deck. It all adds up to a 16% capacity improvement over the previous world record, and contributing to the 50% decrease in co2 emissions making the Triple-E the most advanced and efficient ship in the world.
