All finished and ready to depart, with a draught of 14 metres, the CSCL iIndian Ocean alongside Felixstowe Berth 8 gets a Harwich Haven pilot boards to help with a swing then departure to the Sunk pilot station where the captain takes his ship through the Med and join a southbound convoy at the Suez Canal to Port Kelang in Malaysia. The pilot onboard, radios Harwich VTS to confirm they are ready for departure with a draught of 14 metres for Port Kelang and want 3 tugs, including the additional extra tug to what was ordered. The two big tugs at Felixstowe, Svitzer Deben and Svitzer Kent take the centre leads fore and aft while the Svitzer Shotley makes fast on the port shoulder The tugs left the tug pontoon one by one. As the Indian Ocean was starboard side to the berth the pilot would have to swing the ship 180° to a southerly heading then run ahead out of the harbour. Two offshore lines were taken back onboard to make it easier for the fore and aft tugs to make fast. All three tugs back away into pull positions ready to lift her off the berth as the rest of the lines were released. The pilot begins with the Deben, aft, by building up to 50% power with Kent and Shotley building to 50% soon after. Slowly edging away from the fenders, the pilot increases the tugs to full power. All-of-a-sudden an almighty twang and a thud was heard as the tow line of the Svitzer Kent broke leaving the Deben and Shotley pulling. Once the pilot had been told of the breakage he immediately checked if the crew were ok and if there was anymore damage. Fortunately no other damage was reported so the Kent winds up the rest of that line and spins around to make fast again with their back-up gear. With the Kent making fast, the Deben stops towing and starts to move around to the starboard side to pull the stern around. Once the gap had widened Deben squeezes around the stern and builds up to full power. Kent reconnected forward, the pilot gets them to wind up to full power when they could. Swinging to port with the three tugs and about to run the engine ahead, the Deben is asked to stop towing and drop in astern as they trickle ahead. Kent stops towing and moves into a let go position. The skipper on the the Kent asks if the crew could attach the damaged line to the end of the other line so it could be retrieved. The end of the line splashes into the water, Kent runs astern at speed to peel away releasing a puff of black smoke then spins around sharply to reposition on the port quarter. Shotley starts to run astern ready to let go from the port shoulder. Once released, they are stood down and heads back to the tug pontoon. Speed increasing, the pilot keeps the Kent and Deben around the 90° Beach End turn out of the harbour into the North Sea outbound to the Sunk Pilot Station where the two pilots would disembark onto a Pilot launch back to Harwich.

MSC Eva arrives from Antwerp with a maximum draught of 11.5 metres. A Harwich Haven pilot boards at the Sunk Pilot Station which is about 12 miles out in the North Sea. Once onboard he radios Harwich VTS with the current draught and if there was any known defects. VTS replies with the wind on the Landguard gauge and any traffic in the ship-way that could affect the inward passage. The pilot requests two tugs for berthing, one to meet outside the harbour to make fast centre lead aft and the second tug inside the harbour bow to bow. The first tug to head out was the Svitzer Sky, they make fast as the Eva passes the Platters. Svitzer Deben waits inside the harbour and makes fast once the MSC eva was on a north-south heading. Heading up the harbour, the pilot runs the engine astern to help reduce the speed ready for the port swing off the Guard Buoy. Reduced to a crawl, the pilot gets the Sky to move out onto starboard quarter while the Deben moves onto the port shoulder. Both tugs begin to take the ship around to port. Once swung the pilot runs the engine astern as they back up towards Trinity 7. The Deben closes up and let's go from forward to push up on the starboard side alongside the berth. While in port she will be almost filled of loaded and empty containers that will be heading East to be refilled and sent West again.
