India’s 1st Missile Tracking Ship is readying for sea trials
Once ready, it will be India’s first, a force multiplier and cruise the country into a global elite club. Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) is gearing up to undertake sea trials of India’s first missile tracking ship by the first week of October. The keel of the ship, which was laid on June 30, 2014, is being built for the National Technical Research Organisation, the technical intelligence agency working directly under the supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office and the National Security Adviser. Considered a “topmost secret project”, a lot of confidentiality is being maintained in executing the project costing about ₹750 crore. It will be named after its induction into the Indian Navy. For now, it is simply referred as VC 11184. Strategic weapons prog. :: This will be the first of its kind ocean surveillance ship being built as part of the efforts under the NDA government to strengthen the country’s strategic weapons programme. When asked about the commencement of sea trials, HSL Chairman and Managing Director Rear Admiral L.V. Sarat Babu told The Hindu that the sea trials would be carried out either by September-end or the first week of October and they were confident of handing over the vessel to the Indian Navy by the year-end. “This would put India in the elite of club of a few countries that have such a sophisticated ocean surveillance ship,” the Rear Admiral pointed out. Declining to comment further, he said they had successfully completed the basin trials sometime ago. 300-strong crew :: The ship was built inside the covered dry dock. It has the capacity to carry 300-strong crew with hi-tech gadgets and communication equipment, powered by two diesel engines, and a large deck capable of helicopter landing. HSL, set up in 1941, achieved a total income of ₹651.67 crore and a value of production of ₹644.78 crore during 2017-18, the highest since inception. It is poised to get orders for construction of five fleet support ships costing ₹9,000 crore and finalise request for proposal for design collaborator for construction of two Special Operation Vessels called mini submarines. It is also banking on the order for medium refit of Russia-made third Sindhughosh class submarine INS Sindhuratna for which it has submitted technical bids. Visakhapatnam is considered a strategic location on the East Coast for the Indian defence forces as it is home for Ship Building Centre to build nuclear powered submarine INS Arihant class, Naval Alternate Operational Base at Rambilli, the second naval base after Eastern Naval Command headquarters, training centre for Marine Commandos and headquarters of the submarine arm. Geo4NIEM Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) (Vessel Position/Track)
Maritime Domain Awareness is an inter-agency and international effort to detect and prevent threats at sea or in any navigable waterway. The NIEM Vessel Position exchange from the Maritime Domain supports the effective understanding of anything associated with global maritime that could impact the United States' security, safety, economy, or environment. NIEM facilitates this understanding through effective, timely sharing of vital, secure information among many key partners by representing vessels, people, cargo, and maritime locations and activities. Cargo Ships Out At Sea
This is a 5 1/2 minute video compile of a few zoomed in 52X digicam recordings I've made of the ships out at sea from Wollongong, Port Kembla and Gerroa using my Samsung HMX-F80 HD digital camcorder. I can get some real nice closeups of the ships a couple of kilometers from shore, they come up with great detail with the ship name and model number. You can even find out what the ship is and track its location at http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/ , it's quite fun to do I have to say! :)

Cruise Ship in Storm SAVED! Viking Sky Towed into Molde, Norway
Over 1,300 lives were in the balance on the 749-foot cruise ship Viking Sky. After losing all its engines on March 23, 2019, signalling a "Mayday" distress call, and anchoring off a lee shore in 6-to-8-meter waves and gale force conditions, several engines were working on March 24, 2019. The 749-foot cruise ship Viking Sky launched in 2017 is made its way to the closest port in Molde, Norway, approximately ten miles from its emergency anchorage next to a lee shore. You will also see the foundering of the MV Hagland Captain a 300-foot cargo ship that went to assist but had to be abandoned by all 9 crew. There were no fatalities on either ship, but the rescue of the Hagland Captain crew by helicopter delayed the air lift of the guests of the MV Viking Sky. The 749-foot ship has four diesel engines and two electrical engines. During part of the airlift, only one engine was operational to take pressure off the anchor and chain in the big seas. Over half of its 915 passengers were air lifted by CHC Helicopters and the Southern Norway rescue services (Hovedrningssentralen) on March 23 ,to March 24. MarineTraffic.com said the MV Viking Sky arrived in Molde, Norway at 16:12 local time (UTC+1), on Sunday, March 24, 2019. It should be able to disembark all the over 800 remaining passengers and crew. Global Ocean Commission - vessel ID and tracking
All vessels on the high seas should have to carry identification numbers and tracking systems, said the Global Ocean Commission at the conclusion of its meeting in New York. Currently, passenger ships and large merchant vessels have to carry unique and unchangeable International Maritime Organization (IMO) numbers, and use systems that track their path across the ocean. Commissioners said the loophole granted to other types of vessels presents a security threat. ID and tracking would also curb illegal fishing, and the trafficking of drugs, weapons and people. The UN Office on Drugs and Crime reported in 2011 that illegal fishing vessels are actively engaged in these activities. Co-chair José María Figueres explains the Commission's rationale.

Position tracking of your own ships (J-Marine GIS for Web Pro Part1)
Monitoring the position of your own ships in real-time.
Benefits for Humanity: Found at Sea
The Vessel-ID System investigation on the International Space Station demonstrated the ability for a space-based radio receiver to track a ship’s Automatic Identification System (AIS) signal, the marine equivalent of the air traffic control system. Since being turned on in 2010, Vessel-ID has been able to relay more than 400,000 ship position reports from more than 22,000 ships in a single day, proving a quantum leap in the ship tracking ability of coast guards around the world. This ability, coupled with multiple AIS tracking satellites launched since, is already making travel among the waves safer for thousands of ships around the globe. The ship identification and tracking system technology already aided in orienting rescue services for a lone survivor stranded in the North Sea, giving new hope to once impossible situations. 5 AMAZING Ship Launch Videos
Ship launching is the process of transferring a vessel to the water. It is a naval tradition in many cultures, dating back thousands of years. It has been observed as a public celebration and a solemn blessing. Ship launching imposes stresses on the ship not met during normal operation, in addition to the size and weight of the vessel, and it represents a considerable engineering challenge as well as a public spectacle. The process also involves many traditions intended to invite good luck, such as christening by breaking a sacrificial bottle of champagne over the bow as the ship is named aloud and launched. There are three principal methods of conveying a new ship from building site to water, only two of which are called "launching." The oldest, most familiar, and most widely used is the end-on launch, in which the vessel slides down an inclined slipway, usually stern first. With the side launch, the ship enters the water broadside. The third method is float-out, used for ships that are built in basins or dry docks and then floated by admitting water into the dock. In all cases, heavy chains are attached to the ship and the drag effect is used to slow the vessel once afloat, until tugboats can move the hull to a jetty for fitting out. ARTEMIS: infrared search and track system, your eyes on the sea - Thales
Naval commanders have to keep their eyes on the sea at all times to protect their vessels against a whole array of threats. They need to have a 360° view of their ship's surroundings day and night. In coastal waters, ARTEMIS supplements the capabilities of ship radar systems by detecting targets that radar has difficulty classifying, like fast-moving threats making use of coastline features for cover, and stealthy targets with a low radar cross-section. Ships equipped with ARTEMIS are able to detect this kind of threat faster, giving them extra time to initiate countermeasures and protect the platform and the fleet. The ship shaped cloud in the sky shows the location of a skeleton crew. The cloud gets bigger the closer one gets to it. When the cloud is present, a crew can fight waves of skeleton ships. There are 5 waves, the first containing only one ship, and all of the ensuing with 2. On the final wave, one ship will contain a Skeleton Captain. The ship with the Skeleton Captain will give the best loot. After the treasure spawns, it is not marked in any way, so it is best to stay in the general vicinity of where the ship sunk. The payoff of the entire event is generally between 20k-30k. TALONS At-Sea Demo on USS Zephyr Patrol Coastal Ship
DARPA’s Towed Airborne Lift of Naval Systems (TALONS) research effort recently demonstrated its prototype of a low-cost, elevated sensor mast aboard a U.S. Navy vessel for the first time. The crew of USS Zephyr, a Cyclone-class patrol coastal ship, tried out the technology demonstration system over three days last March near Naval Station Mayport in Mayport, Florida. TALONS demonstrated safe and routine operation from the ship’s deck under a variety of sea states and wind conditions without impacting the ship’s operational capability. During operationally relevant test scenarios, it significantly improved the ship’s capabilities to detect, track, and classify contacts of interest. It also increased communications range between the ship and remote platforms such as the Zephyr’s rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs). Towed behind boats or ships, TALONS could persistently carry intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and communications payloads of up to 150 pounds between 500 and 1,500 feet in altitude—many times higher than current ships’ masts—and greatly extend the equipment’s range and effectiveness. Breaking News:Norway cruise ship evacuated after engine problems 😮 24.03.2019
About 1,300 people are being evacuated from a cruise ship off the western coast of Norway, authorities have said. Police in the county of More og Romsdal say the ship has suffered engine problems, and all those aboard are being taken to shore. Norway's sea rescue agency said the MV Viking Sky sent out a distress signal amid high waves and strong winds. Five helicopters and several ships are taking part in the evacuation, the agency said. However, a freighter - Hagland Captain - also lost engine power and two helicopters were diverted to rescue its crew. There are photos of the freighter on social media. News of a cruise ship suffering engine problems first came through at about 14:00 local time (13:00 GMT). Reports suggest the ship has since managed to restart one engine and move slightly further from the coast as the evacuation continues. "We were having lunch when [the ship] began to shake," John Curry, who was evacuated by helicopter, told public broadcaster NRK. "Window panes were broken and water came in. It was just chaos. "The trip on the helicopter, I would rather forget. It was not fun," he said. Fisherman Jan Erik Fiskerstrand, whose boat was one of the first to come to help MV Viking Sky, told Aftenposten newspaper, "it was just minutes before this could have gone really wrong". The ship could have hit the rocks "if they had not started the engine and fastened the anchor". By 22:40, 155 people had been brought to shore, but police warned that the figures would vary, and said they would "wait for counting until further notice". Eight people suffered injuries and three of those were thought to be in a serious condition, NRK reported. According to NRK, most of the passengers were British and American. Sea rescue services said the ship was being held steady and the evacuation was ongoing. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute says some waves are more than 10 metres high, with one local newspaper reporting lifeboats were forced to turn back en route to the ship due to the "brutal" conditions. Those brought ashore are being taken to a local sports complex. One volunteer said about 80 had arrived so far, and accommodation had been found for them in local hotels. MV Viking Sky is a Viking Ocean Cruises ship, which had its maiden voyage in 2017. Website MarineTraffic shows the vessel was en route to Stavanger from Tromso, and is drifting off the town of Farstad near Molde on the country's western coast. The area is known as the Hustadvika and is reportedly one of the most dangerous stretches of Norway's coast. Hi, welcome to my travel channel! Train on Sea! RAMESWARAM PAMBAN BRIDGE!! Dangerous Railway Bridge!
Spectacular view of Train gliding over sea on the dangerous Rameswaram Pamban Bridge! Train accidents, Cyclonic storms, Ships colliding into the bridge, People falling from train into the sea, Mishaps, Disasters the PAMBAN BRIDGE has seen it all and is still going strong withstanding nature's fury, man made hazards for over 100 years! The Pamban Bridge truly is a marvel of Engineering and ingenuity. I was lucky enough to behold the beauty of India's first ever sea bridge over the weekend. Enjoy watching GOC WDM3A 16476R Diesel locomotive in charge of the 16779 Tirupati - Rameswaram Meenakshi Express carefully gliding over the 2.3 KM long cantilever bridge at a restricted speed of 15 kmph! The Pamban Bridge : ---------------------------- The Pamban Bridge is a cantilever railway bridge on the Palk Strait which connects the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India. The bridge refers to both the road bridge and the cantilever railway bridge, though primarily it means the latter. Opened in 1914, it was India's first sea bridge, and was the longest sea bridge in India till 2010. The rail bridge is for the most part, a conventional bridge resting on concrete piers, but has a double leaf bascule section midway, which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. On 24 February 2014, the Pamban Bridge marked its 100th anniversary. The Rameswaram bridge aka Pamban bridge is 6,776 ft (2,365 m) long and was opened for traffic in 1914. The railroad bridge is a still-functioning double-leaf bascule bridge section that can be raised to let ships pass under the bridge. About 10 ships such as cargo carriers, coast guard ships, fishing vessels and oil tankers pass through the bridge every month. After completion of Pamban bridge, metre gauge lines were laid from Mandapam up to Pamban Station, from here the railway lines bifurcated into two directions one towards Rameshwaram about 6.25 miles (10.06 km) up and another branch line of 15 miles (24 km) terminating at Dhanushkodi. The section was opened to traffic in 1914. The bridge consist of 143 piers and the centre span is a Scherzer rolling type lift span. It's 220 ft (67 m) long and each of 100 tonnes. Pamban Bridge accident 1964 : ------------------------------------------- The 1964 Rameshwaram cyclone (also known as the Dhanushkodi cyclone) was regarded as one of the most powerful storms to ever strike Sri Lanka (known then as Ceylon) on record. Early on December 23, the storm struck Ceylon near Pamban Island with winds estimated at 240 kmph (150 mph), ranking it as a modern-day super cyclonic storm. At least 1,800 people lost their lives as a result of the cyclone. On December 23, an estimated 7.6 m (25 ft) storm surge struck the town of Dhanuskodi on the south eastern edge of the island, submerging the town and overturning the Pamban - Dhanuskodi passenger train killing all 150 passengers on board. The town, an important transit point between India and Ceylon, was completely destroyed and has not been rebuilt since. Thanks for watching! do subscribe to my channel for more train videos :)

South China Sea dispure, India to build sattelite tracking station in Vietnam - TomoNews
HANOI — Indian officials say their country plans to build a satellite tracking and imaging center in southern Vietnam, which would give Hanoi access to images of the region from Indian earth observation satellites, including China and the South China Sea, Reuters reported. The satellite tracking and data reception center will be established in Ho Chi Minh City to monitor Indian satellite launches. Indian media say it will cost about $23 million. The facility, however, will also be equipped to receive images from the 11 earth observation satellites India has in orbit. The Vietnamese will be able to directly access images from Indian satellites that cover the region. These will include images of China and the South China Sea, as well as images of Chinese naval bases, its coastguard and navy, and its new man-made islands in the disputed Spratly archipelago. The earth observation satellites images have civilian agricultural, scientific and environmental applications, but can also be used for military purposes. Collin Koh, a marine security expert at Singapore's S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, told Reuters: "In military terms, this move could be quite significant. It looks like a win-win for both sides, filling significant holes for the Vietnamese and expanding the range for the Indians." DJI Phantom 3 - Cargo ship Arborella at Sea - Aerial Footage (4K)
Normal conditions today and excellent weather to fly. My first flight is towards cargo vessel Arborella, followed by an oil tanker of which I forgot to write down the name. Maximum distance for this flight was 3km. I lost connection signal when the Phantom 3 was close to the ships radar but regained contact within a few seconds and could catch up with it again. A grain of sand obstructed the gimbal so the horizon is not perfectly flat on the way there. I could clean it after the flight.
