And then, we will use an another useful rule to hide the default arrows applied by Internet explorer 10; from the select box dropdown. Welcome back. We’re still working in module 6. We’re all the way down now to section 5 where I want to talk to you a little bit about borders and shading. You probably noticed when we were working on the table that you had borders automatically. As soon as you inserted the table you have black borders that print. Well I told you that you have the option to take those off. You can actually add different borders if you’d like just to really enhance your tables. So let me show you a little bit about how borders and shading work. One of the things we talked about was when you first insert a table you automatically will have borders around that table. Borders do print. So if you don’t want them you can take them off, you can actually add different types of borders, different styles, colors, things like that. I’m going to select this table and I’m under the Table Tools contextual tab, the Design tab here. And you can see this is your Borders grouping. I’m going to start with this Borders button here. First of all you’ll notice that several of these look like they’re turned on. This will allow you to put a border around the bottom of your selection, the top, left, right. If you don’t want one of these you just click on it to turn it off. Here’s how you take the border totally off, no border. And if you do that you’ll notice now you have grey what they call Gridlines. Now gridlines do not print. They’re just there to show you the outlines of your cells. Just so you’ll know, if you don’t even want to see the gridlines then you can actually go and turn the view for those on or off under the same Borders button. See how it says View Gridlines here? Well if I click on that now they’re off. Now it looks like there’s nothing there but the table is still there. Your cells still work the same way. It just really would look like nice, neat columns of information versus a table. I’ll go ahead and put these back on. I’m going to choose the outside border option and I’d also like to view those gridlines so that I can work with them a little bit easier. I’ll go down here and choose View Gridlines. Do you notice when I chose Outside Border there’s only a border that will print on the outside of my table? Now I want to apply a border around my header only. So I’ll select the first line, go back to Design and I’m going to choose again Outside Border but this time it’ll be just for the header. So borders are only around your selection, not necessarily each cell in your selection. Notice on this list that you can also apply inside horizontal or inside vertical borders and then you’ve got some diagonal ones you can apply that go sideways like this and then you can also put in a horizontal line. So those are your basic border options. That’s kind of nice but did you notice we can’t really pick a color here or a style, so that’s where it really gets interesting. I’m going to go to the bottom of the list where it says Borders and Shading and click. Now you’ll notice that I have Border options, Page Border options and Shading options. How to Style a Widget Heading with the Thesis Widget Styles Plugin
http://www.thesistoolbox.com Let's begin by opening the Thesis Widget Styles Plugin and then going to our style options. Here we'll style the widget heading by customizing its font, padding and border but we'll leave the background alone for the moment. Select each of those options and hit save to so the choices for those appear. Style the Font in a Thesis Widget Heading We'll make the heading font style Arial and make it 24 pixels in size. Let's choose a yellowish-charcoal color. We want normal spacing and we'll get rid of the all caps and center the heading text. We won't add a background image yet but we will add a border style. Style the Border in a Thesis Widget Heading Copy that same color and we'll use it in the border that we'll add. We'll only use a bottom border here for the heading. Go to the Heading Border Style and select the option of Allow each side of the border to be different then hit the save button so the options for this appear. Check the boxes for No Top, No Right and No Left Border. Let's make the bottom border 4 pixels wide with the same color used above and we'll make it solid. Hit the save button. Then let's go to the page with the widget and refresh it, you can see all the changes. Review the Changes to the Thesis Widget Heading Font and Border You can see we lost our margin around the heading since we modified the text so we need to add some padding to the top. Let's go back to the 20 pixels of heading padding. Return to the Thesis Widget Styles plugin and go back over to the Overall Padding and get rid of the 1 that we'd placed in Overall Top Padding. Hit save. Now we'll have 20 pixels on the top again. Go back to the page and refresh it again. It looks like we could use some top margin on the the body text to move it down a bit from the heading. Return to the plugin again and go to our Widget Style Customization Options. Now let's go to Style the Widget Body and check Customize the Widget Body Margin. Hit save. Then let's add 10 pixels to the Body Top Margin and leave the rest blank. Return to the page and refresh it and you can see that the body text has moved away from the heading. As you can see using the Thesis Widget Styles plugin to customize widgets is very simple. There are many ways that you can customize and style individual widgets using the overall widget style plus some special styling for the heading and for the body.

You can watch their previews shifting accordingly on the main slide. Click to apply the changes. Already inbuilt color schemes and designs are also available in different PowerPoint templates. Step # 5 -- Add effects to your text In Microsoft PowerPoint you can give your text a little boost by addign different effects. For that click on the "text effects" button in the "home" tab. With the help of this option you can add shadow, glow, reflection, bevel and 3D effects which enhance your text. These effects have futher suboptions which you can choose by clicking on the side arrows. Step # 6 -- Scale the edited text Once you are done making changes to your text, scale it to fit the page. The subtitle can be added later on. You can use the boundary box surrounding the text to adjust its length, width and position. Step # 7 -- Reset the settings If you don't like the changes you have made to your content, you can always go to the "reset" button in the "home" tab to undo everything.

How to Add a Border to a Widget in Thesis with our Thesis Widget Styles Plugin
http://www.thesistoolbox.com Let's begin by opening the Thesis Widget Styles plugin and going to the style's customization options. Select Customize the Widget Border. We'll add a border to the widget to enhance its appearance (video 1 has introductory instructions on using this plugin). Hit save to make this change. Go back to the widget style and then to Overall Border Style and you can see we have a choice here. One of our choices is to allow each side of the border to be different. If we check this, settings will appear for each of the top, bottom, left and right borders. For now leave this unchecked so we'll get a border that is the same on all sides. Add First Border to a Thesis Widget Let's add a border width of 2 and pick a sort of a darker yellow grey color to compliment the yellow we already have. Then we pick the style of the border which in this case will be solid and then hit the save button. Let's go to the page with the widget and refresh it. You can now see the solid border around the widget which makes it stand out. Add Second Border to a Thesis Widget However, an outset border might actually be kind of interesting around the widget as well. To see that let's return to the Overall Border Style and choose outset instead of solid. This change will make the bottom and right side darker with the top and left side lighter. Hit save. Go back to our page and refresh it. You can see that this got to be a darker color and this stayed the same color or lightened up a little bit. Well, it looks a little cleaner if you use straight edges and if you don't have corners. So let's turn off around the rounded corner to see what that looks like. Go back to the style and turn them off and hit save. Return to the page and refresh it. Now you can see the offset look. This look is pretty dramatic. If you like this idea but want to downplay it some, you can do that by selecting the option of Allow each side of the border to be different. Do that, then copy your Typical Border Color and hit save. Add a Border to the Widget with Different Borders on Each Side Now in the border style you can customize each side of the border. For the top border, let's paste that color in but make it quite a bit lighter with the color picker. Then choose 2 pixels for width and solid. Let's add those same settings to the left border the same. The right and the bottom borders we'll make slightly darker keeping the width at 2 pixels and solid. Paste in that color again and then hit save. Let's go back to our page and refresh it. We have very easily, with our Thesis Widget Styles plugin, customized the widget border. We've got a fairly subtle but nevertheless apparent border around the widget with a sense of depth that emerges out of having these different colors.

In MS Word, you can create tables from different styles and ways. Ms Word not only allows you to create tables but also allows you to modify tables. In this Ms Word tutorial, you will specifically learn how to modify tables in Microsoft Word. Step # 1 -- Adjust the column width and row height In order to do modifications, a table must be created in the document in which you want to make modifications. Let us say, you want to adjust the column width and row height of a table. Bring the cursor on the ruler above the page to adjust the column width with the help of the ruler markers. Likewise, adjust the row height by dragging the cursor on the ruler markers at the left hand side of the page. Another way of adjusting the column width and row height is by simply dragging the cursor on the lines or margins of the targeted columns and rows. Step # 2 -- Cell size options You can also change the size of a cell in a table. After selecting the content of the table, adjust the cell width and height in the 'cell size' group. When working with tables, you'd already be in the "layout" tab where you'd find the "cell size" group. Step # 3 -- Adding a Row In order to add a new row, one can do it in two different ways. You can do so by simply hitting the "tab" key in the last row and a row will be inserted below. Another way of inserting a new row in between rows is by simply going to the 'Rows and Columns' section and clicking on the 'Insert Below' button. Step # 4 -- Inserting a New Column on Right Let us say, you want to add a new column. Ms Word allows you to insert a new column on the right hand side. In order to do so, bring the cursor to the column after which you want to add the new column and click on the 'Insert Right' button. It will insert a new column on the right hand side of the column you have selected. Step # 5 -- Deleting Rows, Cells & Columns In order to delete a row, a cell or a column from the table, the software provides an easy way to do so. You can delete rows, cells and columns by first moving the cursor and selecting the desired column or row of the table. Simply go the 'Delete' dropdown menu in the 'layout' tab and select the desired option. In this manner, you can easily modify tables in Ms Word. Step # 6 -- Splitting Cells If you want to split one column in to more than one, you can easily do so by splitting the existing cells. First, select the cells by and go to the 'layout tab'. In the 'Merge' section, select the 'Split Cells' option. You will see a new window opens where you will be asked about the number of rows and columns that you want to split the selected cells into. Click on the "Ok" button to complete the procedure as shown in this Ms Word tutorial. Step # 7 -- Merging cells Cells can also be merged by following simple steps. Let's say you want to display footer for a table in a last row and want to merge all the three cells into a single cell. You move the cursor to the cells and select them, once they are selected press 'Merge Cells' button in the layout panel and all the cell will be merged into a single cell.

Let’s start by just drawing a very rough title block – line on the right, box at the lower right hand corner, then we’ll start adding some text. Before we do that, I need to introduce you to the concept of AutoText. AutoText is text that Layout will automatically fill in for you based on information that is set in your model – it’s almost like the text version of a component from SketchUp. You can see what AutoText information is available by going up to “File,” “Document Setup,” “Auto-Text.” These are the Items that are already in as AutoText, and you can adjust their values within this area. For example, let’s add our Address to our title bar. To start, add a text box with the value "Address" in it to your title bar. Now, change your address in the AutoText section. Notice that the text in your actual document changes to match what you’ve entered in your Document Setup. You can adjust the style of your text within the “Text Style Section.” Now, let’s add a logo in the upper right hand corner – just go to “File,” “Insert,” and find your logo image. In this case, we’re going to use the AutoText for "Page Number", along with a letter and a pair of numbers. You can add a page description section, dates, and other information in here as well. Notice that you can create a border around a text box by selecting “Stroke” in the “Shape Style” section. You can draw lines to separate your various sections, and adjust the way they look using the “Stroke” option in your Shape Style section of your tray. Now, let’s talk about getting this to show up on all your pages (or at least most of your pages). First, you’re going to want to select all of this. You can group it or not – I’d probably group it. Then, you need to add a layer for Title Block, and put all this geometry on that layer. You can check it by toggling it on or off. You should be able to drag it down near the bottom. Then, assuming you want this to show up on every page, you need to click the option for Share Layer Across Pages. This will result on this layer showing up in the same location across every page. You may want to click the lock button to keep from accidentally editing your title block. However, sometimes you have pages you don’t want this to show up on – simply turn the layer off on those pages! Now, let’s adjust our page numbering so numbering doesn’t start until after the first page. Simply go up to your Document Setup again and use the drop down to select the page you’d like your numbering to begin on. Finally, you can save this block as a template so you can use it in future projects by simply going up to “File,” “Save as Template,” and saving it under your “My Templates” folder. You can add page borders in many line styles and colors as well as various graphical borders. Add a border to a page. In the Page Background group on the Page Layout tab, click Page Borders. Make sure you are on the Page Border tab of the dialog box Borders and Shading. Click one of the border options exchange. If you want the border to appear in a specific place on the page, as example only at the top, click Customize in the box Value. Under Preview, click where you want to display the edge. Select the style, color and border width. To specify an artistic border, such as trees, select an Art box option. Drop Down menus are used in almost every web page nowadays. They actually bind the data values to the menu items, hence the user just interact with the Sub items, not bothering about the data value. Step 1 - Main Category First of all, let's open up the 'html' and 'body' tag. After that open up the 'label' tag and give the list a name. Then declare a class for our menu. Let's name the class "Animal" for now, since we will be creating a list of animals. The code would be: 'html' 'body' 'label' Select Any Animal '/label' 'select class ="Animal"' Step 2 - Code for Sub Categories Now open up the 'option value' tag, give the required options after the "value" attribute and specify its class as "options", since we want to create a drop down menu. After that, we will specify the name of the value which has to appear in the list on the browser. Lastly, do remember to close the tags. The code for the sub categories would be: 'option value="lion" class="options"'Lion'/option' 'option value="tiger" class="options"'Tiger'/option' 'option value="Leopard" class="options"'leopard'/option' Step 3 - Preview In browser Further, save the file as .html extension and open it up in a browser. The menu would appear as the way we coded it. Step 4 - Applying CSS Now let us apply some styles on our CSS drop down menu. For that, we will add a style tag before the body tag. Now, let's apply formatting on the options that will appear in the list. For that, we will define the functionality in the members' class. Here, the member class is options, so let's change the font size and color. After that, let's close the style tag and open up the browser. Step 5 - CSS effects After that, refresh the page which was opened in browser previously. It would be observed that the size and color of the CSS dropdown list has just appeared as we coded it.
