Do you know that feeling of freedom? Well I do, and I'm telling you it's amazing. When you wake up in the middle of the mountains and you look around, it makes you feel like the mountains are calling you. That gives me the strenght and passion for "chasing freedom". La Sportiva presents Bushido: the new way of the trail runner

01:02
A technical model created for the world of skyrunning competitions. Super lightweight, sticky, aggressive. Designed to guarantee perfect stability on all types of off-road terrain thanks to the "STB Control" construction, a new concept in the world of Mountain running shoes. The TPU frame at the side of the uppers reaches and embraces the midsole in the medial part of the boot. This creates a snug fitting shoe with greater stability thanks to the upper and midsole working together in synergy. It also makes the product even more lightweight by avoiding having to insert heavy stabilizers into the central part of the shoe. The dual mix sole has graded touchpoints. The rounded shape of the external lugs, which gradually rise laterally to touch the midsole, create a continuous contact with the ground, thus maintaining stability in the case of extreme foot torsion. This allows the user to run in safety, even over technical terrain or in the presence of roots, stones and branches. The maximum support and snug fit of the medial part of the foot does not compromise freedom of movement for the toe. The result is a shoe in true La Sportiva style, satisfying the innovative solutions requested by the most demanding runners; rewriting the rules of the game with a totally new construction, never seen before in the trail running category. Bushido: the new way of the trail runner.

What's it like trail running in Israel? (near the Dead Sea Half Marathon!)

13:15
I never realised how amazing the trail running would be in Israel! After the Dead Sea Half Marathon (film here: https://www.youtube.com/jpNrcgrdD7E) I was taken on an utterly magical run in the canyons near the Dead Sea. Hopefully this film conveys how enchanted I was - count how many time you hear me say, "Wow!" We parked up on the Amiaz Plateau, a vast, flat and dusty yellow desert and ran down Wadi Sedom, marvelling at the salt formations and high, white cliffs and towers. At the bottom we met Wadi Pratsim and followed it all the way back up to the plateau. This second canyon was even more spectacular, with striated rocks, caves and pillars, narrow corridors and sky-scraping white castles of rock on either side. It was like the Grand Canyon, only a lot smaller and white. It was incredible, I could have stayed there all day in the lovely warm sun, taking photos and filming! I was running with some awesome people that also star at the end of my Dead Sea Half Marathon film here: https://www.youtube.com/jpNrcgrdD7E Alena Dyatlova from Time4Run in Russia, who came 2nd in the Dead Sea Marathon (1st in her age category) Ophir Kindler, one of the Dead Sea Marathon event organisers who arranged for me to come on this incredible trip Zoli Bihari, founder of Canaan Running Adventures who has just been supporting US ultra runner extraordinaire Mike Wardian on an FKT in Israel, interviewed here: https://www.youtube.com/DQ9RTivUo6M Ophir told me that the events company he works for also hold the Desert Challenge here, and we were running some of the course of the Moon Run, a thrilling night time trail run through these canyons when the moon is at its biggest every December. There's also a mountain bike race and you can do both biking and running in this fun, family-friendly camping weekend. Find out more here: https://desertchallenge.co.il/en/ You can see my route on Strava, but I would be too scared to run in such unfamiliar, hot desert on my own, so I recommend you book this with Zoli Bihari from Canaan Adventures. He can also tell you about the wildlife in the area, as he does in this film, and all about the amazing landscape we were running through. https://www.canaanrunningadventures.com/ Trail running in Israel is definitely something to put on your bucket list! Running the Trails of the Lake District

02:45
Every month I visit the Lake District to spend a day running in the hills. It's good for the body, good for the head, good for the soul. I film the run and chat to myself about whatever feels important that day. Then I edit it when I find the time (only allowing myself a day to do the edit) and chuck it out into the world. If you are inclined to make a donation to an environmental charity that would be great. Pick whatever you like, but here are a few that I like: https://www.johnmuirtrust.org/ http://www.fixthefells.co.uk/ https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/ https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/ or outside the UK: http://www.worldlandtrust.org/ Every month I visit the Lake District to spend a day running in the hills. the Way of the Trail Runner (the Coyote Bushido)

The Coyote Bushido (the way of the trail runner) is something we collectively discovered over the process of years of trail running. The samurai have their "way of being" and trail runners have our own distinct way. This isn't a comprehensive list by any means, but a representative sample of some of the main bullet points of what it is to be a trail runner. Trail Running and Hiking: Staying Motivated on the Trail

01:02
Keep your runs and hikes fresh and interesting by incorporating these tricks from Columbia Sportswear’s Director of Toughness. Long runs and hikes are great for training and pushing yourself, but they can become monotonous after a while. As you go mile after mile there may be a time that you need a bit more motivation An extended trail run might leave you feeling bored and unsatisfied at times, so it is no surprise that staying motivated out on the trail can be just as challenging as completing a trek. Columbia Sportswear’s Director of Toughness Faith Briggs has hit this mental wall before, and she’s tried a number of things to keep her head straight on a lengthy trail. From reciting poems to singing in her head and even mentally writing letters to friends while she’s on the path, Briggs says there’s no singular solution to staying inspired and continuing to push ahead. “I’ve had runs where I’ve tried to dedicate each mile to a friend of mine and think about them,” adds Briggs. “Anything that can keep you excited partway through is a good idea.” Lots of runners use technology to their advantage, listening to their favorite music or stopping at premier spots for that oh-so-gorgeous photo. Briggs notes, however, that if you choose to use technology, be courteous and smart about it, like moving off of the trail to take a photo. “You might want to also think about staying unplugged,” adds Briggs. “Maybe not playing a bunch of music or facetiming your mom when you’re on the trail.” While there is no doubt that staying motivated along the way can sometimes be just as daunting as the trail itself, Briggs says, “The most important thing is just to remember it’s just one foot in front of the other.” Keep your expeditions fresh, interesting and full of enjoyment by finding the right mindset on the trail. Try out a few techniques to find out what works best for you. MEC TRAIL SERIES: Intro to trail running

03:22
All things trail running: http://runningmagazine.ca/category/trail-running/ Canadain Trails: http://runningmagazine.ca/category/sections/runs-races/canadian-trails/ Our Race Guide editor, Dan Way, was joined by Nat Korol, Salomon ambassador and trail runner. Together, they took us on a run in Toronto’s Don Valley which has over 50 kilometres worth of trails to offer runners in the area. As Korol points out, there are several rewards to taking to this type of running. It bumps up overall body fitness more so than other fitness activities, it comes with a welcoming trail community and for those used to the roads, the surface is much softer and kinder on joints. A few words of advice: keep the gear, shoes and hydration on point to set yourself up for future success. If you’re coming to the trailhead looking to mix things up, know that the focus should be more on effort, less on the watch and that inviting others to join plays a role in safety as well as keeping things social. As Way notes, stay tuned as this is an ongoing series this summer. Next, we visit a MEC store to show you how to properly gear up for the trails. FOLLOW US! Trail Running in Oregon

You probably shouldn't watch this if you get motion sick! These are the trails I grew up running on in northwest Oregon. In the early days (when I was a kid), we didn't "train." We just ran in the woods building forts, playing tag, throwing fir cones, climbing trees and "exploring" instead of watching tv.

Coach Doug Hay on Trail Running Risks, Benefits, and Q&A

43:36
This video is part of a big blog post: https://strengthrunning.com/2018/08/how-do-i-find-running-trails-near-me/ I’m not promoting running trails because they’re beautiful. Or awe-inspiring. Or jaw-dropping. Though, that’s certainly an added bonus! Trail running is a welcomed alternative to road running because it’s a different type of stress that helps you become a better runner. To help you make the most of running trails – and get started with the least amount of stress – I spoke with trail and ultra runner Doug Hay. Doug is the coach behind the Rock Creek Runner blog and podcast (Trail Talk). He’s also the creator of the Trail Runner’s System (https://bit.ly/2Mp81i5). Our conversation covers a lot: - Our best advice for new trail runners - Do trails make running easier? - How “trails” can be a lot more than just trails - The risks of road running - Trail running as a gateway drug - What trail gear is absolutely necessary (and what isn’t)? We also include a challenge for you – so don’t miss this episode. Jason Fitzgerald is a USATF running coach, 2:39 marathoner, and the founder of Strength Running (one of the web's most popular running blogs and coaching businesses). A member of the Greatist Expert Network, he's also the 2017 Men's Running Magazine's Influencer of the Year and a contributor to Competitor Magazine, Active, Runner's World, Lifehacker, and other major media.
