these videos are great thanks so much for these

I love your analysis. Have you ever considered doing the same for Fargo, all 3 seasons? Best show on TV since Breaking Bad IMO.
Draemonth (12 hours ago)
So sad that your video, after a rather interesting analysis, end up with a watch commercial starting with "did you know...". If you've watched Mad Men for real you know what I'm talking about. Watch out.
Garret Gray (15 hours ago)
Roger is one of those characters who we meet in real life who is so rich and privileged that we can't really get invested in their feelings or insights. Yeah, they're amusing and a little interesting but they'll be ok in the end.
D Z (2 days ago)
"A showdown between good and evil" Oh boy, the naiveness of that statement. Let me tell you, there's no such thing as black and white good vs evil in the real world.
This bitch said Vincero got watches with attention to detail I wont find anywhere else.. She obviously aint ever heard about hublot or rolex

I wanted Joan to end with Roger :(

"That woman got on the plane with a man who was going to end World War II - not run her father’s dog-food company.”
Dr. Reinhardt (1 month ago)
The loss of the Lucky Strike account was the best thing to happen to Roger. It gives him something to prove.
Dr. Reinhardt (1 month ago)
Joan is also a 'natural insider' of the show, meaning that she, like Roger, seems to fit with ease into that world.
Alexander IV (1 month ago)
Very well done. I've been enjoying all your videos for a while now. Started with your BrBa analysis videos and now moved on to your excellent Mad Men videos. You really did a good job with Roger, who is perhaps the most complicated of all the Mad Men. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Raven Kahne (1 month ago)
Roger Sterling is that guy that can charm the pants off anybody he meets and you only hung out with occasionally and never considered a good friend because you knew when he screws up, (and he will) he's taking you down with him
Erica6Strange (1 month ago)
I would love if the creators of Mad Men made a prequel to this show. Giving the fans a glimpse into the beginnings of Sterling & Cooper, showing the life of Bert rasing Sterling, lol!
dandylion (1 month ago)
Joan is the most desired woman on the show? Really?! lol
Dogsoldier 1950 (1 month ago)
Actually Don was a naval officer in the pacific
Craig Cardone (1 month ago)
This analysis is shallow; subtract the clips and it sounds like a high school term paper.

How I LOATHE ads in YouTube videos.
The antithesis of a self-made man is Roger *losing* money. Roger is like the Buddha--born with everything, sees death, hates life for it being empty, searches for more, finds truth--because he didn't have the idea that he could find his wealth through material means, etc. Don is that except he found wealth *and then* realized . . . It's not the ultimate goal to have wealth--it's to achieve that wealth is worthless and find out more.
That's why Eminem is sort of a Buddha too, except he hasn't found the answer yet, lol--but he's close, maybe. He's in the exhaustion phase. Maybe not, though.
Oh, don't do the Privilege thing, lol. Actually, I think shows like Mad Men help un-demonize the rich. It's like, did you do as much as Don? No, so don't demonize him. He was a genius and he earned his shit, etc.
Privilege is just a word for, "We feel like we have it bad and it seems like you don't, so you're responsible or at least we would rather pull everyone into misery than be good people and rise up."
Stefan Söder (2 months ago)
Roger Sterling is the best, most interesting and most complex character in TV history!

So what type of company are we going to be?... The kind where everyone has a summerhouse! That's some ish I would have said lmao
Martin Hyatt (2 months ago)
I love Roger Sterling. Just hilarious. I only wish there were more of him. I would like a compilation of all of his zingers in the show. I think he's my spirit animal but I dont know what that says about me.😀
Ben Hendricks (2 months ago)
The paradox of marketing... you just got done telling us how misguided roger sterling is, and then try to sell us a watch that he would approve of lmao
Maria Regina (2 months ago)
Roger's not the last Sterling. He has a son with Joan. He's not legitimate but he's still obviously Roger's son.
S ash (2 months ago)
Mine! Your voice is spell binding. So easy on ears
Tar Heel Speighty (2 months ago)
Do one on Ida Blankenship.
Eastern Guy (2 months ago)
Your analysis overlooks a couple of important facts. Roger suffers a couple of heart attacks early in the series which leads to Don’s being elevated in the business. He’s dealing with his fear of death by way of his outrageous behaviour.
Tim Power (2 months ago)
An amazing performance. He got the best lines of any character in the show. It also knocked his smug, silver spooned ass down a peg at every chance.
Twin Tales (2 months ago)
Very good analysis, keep em coming!

Martha Angulo Ríos (3 months ago)
Amazing analysis! The best so far from Mad Men. This is a show you can watch two or three times in a row and enjoy every episode. The way it portrait the human condition, makes that you can relate with every character in some way or another.
UnlimitedProduction1 (3 months ago)
9:50 I've been thinking Sterling Archer

What is the name of the classical music track playing in the background in the beginning of the video?

I forgot about his long hair and mustache. It was awful.
TechnicJunglist (3 months ago)
Roger's lsd episode was one of his ultimate highlights.
sneakymia1 (3 months ago)
i love this review of the characters of mad men, they arent perfect, but quite complex, and i love the couples on the show, don is the best with betty, roger and joan have amazing chemistry, and ill have to see who peggy ends up with
kimberly harris (4 months ago)
Never watched mad men.....just couldn't relate and had nothing to offer me as far something I'd want to see
Mike Morgan (4 months ago)
Okkkk……. This is why women never get men. They think we're women. Roger sterling is at the top of his game. He fends off the competition as best he can but doesn't let it get in the way of having a good time. He's happy, not at all morose and pretty easy going. That's all.
Mike Morgan (3 months ago)
I'm a man not a woman. It's completely true and I'm not about trying to be a woman's fake ideal. +emily f

That’s not true at all. Maybe talk to women sometime before trying a strange theory

0:11 That walk he did was so refreshing .😅
Rosamund Powell (4 months ago)
Roger was roughly 42-43 years when the series began and roughly 10 years older when it ended. I'm supposed to believe that he is a character "in decline". If so, his decline was definitely premature.
FourthDerivative (4 months ago)
A video about the decline of wealth and privilege, sponsored by a luxury watch brand. Ironic.
In the vein of Kiki and Millennial Starving Artists....can you do one about The Little Mermaid and Millennials going out into the world and achieving their own paths?

Roger's witty nature was everything!
Daniella Okon (4 months ago)
Your videos are so well made.
Michelle Stewart (4 months ago)
Roger has a certain humility, self-awareness and core of basic goodness... he could easily be abusive, exploitative, etc., but he's not... and even his ex-wife continues to love and care about him (in a self-respecting, healthy way), and vice versa... as does Joan... as does his daughter... and he's clearly a doting grandfather... That really says a lot in his favor. Having known a few people with both inherited and self-attained wealth/power, I consider Roger, while clearly flawed, as valiant and admirable in his own way as our beloved antihero, Don.
ZoSo221 (4 months ago)
Wasn't roger a ww2 pacific vet? So saying he had no hardship or had everything given to him is a bit silly
BellyJewel Deborah (4 months ago)
you guys are doing a great job. I really enjoy these videos.
AJ • (4 months ago)
Cynical and hilarious. I love Roger.
C (4 months ago)
After 15 minutes telling us how meaningless, shallow and unfulfilling Roger's materialism is...you put on an ad for a 'Roger approved' luxury watch? Hilariously cringey irony.
Azul Bonito (4 months ago)
He is hilarious!
JudgeJulieLit (4 months ago)
But Roger fathered Joan's little son. Margaret is not his only filial legacy.

The Rogers of the world are still alive and well.
Dolly Dagger (4 months ago)
I was a little disappointed that Roger was a racist, but l still love the character. He's total old school. He seems to be flailing and it gets closer to 1970.
Alannah Kathleen (4 months ago)
Could you please do an analysis on every woman Don as been with? It would be so interesting to see their significance
bathasleftthecave (5 months ago)
"...and whether privileged does intangible harm to a person. But before we go on... this episode is brought to you by a luxury watch brand" haha. Apart from that ironic chuckle, another great episode of this series.
goodgirl140 (5 months ago)
I love Roger. I always felt he had this effervescent quality about him, that he genuinely revelled in all the money and glamour. But he also realized that it couldn't buy his happiness, so the stresses of the company didn't get to him like other characters trying to claw their way up the ladder.
Taylor Watson (5 months ago)
Sterling didn’t serve in Europe. He was a navy man (most likely an officer given his family connections) in the pacific theatre, fighting the Japanese. He’s references the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa throughout the series.

The real tragedy is when you are in your 20s and you feel like Roger.
daedralord1 (5 months ago)
Roger wasn’t racist. He just didn’t like people
andromedastar (4 months ago)
Oh he definitely was, but it wasn't out of malice. It was the time and circumstances he grew up in and lived in, he really didn't know any better.
Troc Tolumine (5 months ago)
We are watch people who were in their 30s in the 60s and 70s. In real time today they would be in their 90s going on a 100. So disappointing.
Anthony Bilic (5 months ago)
Vincero is a $2 mass produced watch they sell for 100× the amount. Their a joke
veronicajade20 (5 months ago)
Roger needed to die out. Like all the rest of the overprivileged, bigoted idiots of his ilk who make the mainstream media irritating and unbearable. 🙄
Luke Dodson (5 months ago)
I think the best physical symbol of Roger's arc is the decor of his office. From the classic wealthy executive look early in the show, to the trippy mod-mess of his midlife crisis, to his office at the end of the show. It's essentially an empty room with a small table facing the window. It's the office of a man who is just fucking over it all.
Abby Beatson (5 months ago)
Roger reminds me of people in my family who were in various wars, like WW2.
DividedBy (5 months ago)
Roger's witty dialogue alone is a great reason to rewatch the entire series !

"We have no choice to approve of the demise of Roger's kind." We're not going anywhere sweetheart 😂

Roger is by far my favorite character, it was great to see him find happiness.

"I'm the same people!" is one of the best and most revealing lines anyone has ever spoken in TV.
Regina Phalange (5 months ago)
Roger Sterling was my fav male character in this show (I just couldn't stand Don) even with all his faults (but in this era it was almost inevitable) he's a classy and pleasant man

didn't they bang later?

"Madmen". NOT: Mad Men. The series use: Madmen.

BrandBlast (5 months ago)
I've noticed a trend with these analysis videos - every one (that I've watched) which is 4-5; seems to revolve around 'white privilege'. I'd work on that a bit with the coming videos - not everything is reduced down to a figment of one's imagination.
HerrNilssonTheMonkey (3 months ago)
Actually that's the main theme of the show according to the show's creator. But of course you know better.
K W (5 months ago)
Roger and Joan never ended up together because he never actually loved her and didn't come to respect her until much further along in the series. This is made clear when he tells Joan the thing he'll always remember about her is that she was "the best piece of @ss he had ever had." I think Joan actually loved Roger and she thought that he loved her too in his own way and that's why it was such a blow when he left Mona for Jane and not her. Still great piece! I thought you would talk a bit more about Roger's immaturity but it's implied based on what you chose to highlight.
