Here's a quick fun rant about why I think you should evaluate getting involved in the Green Industry, and social media! I wanted to do a fun rant about the uptick I've seen lately with YouTube and Instagram, and why it's important to our profession.
I've seen such a transformation the last 24-36 months in our industry like never before. I know there are many factors and reasons why, but 1 of the main reasons in my opinion, is the rise of social media.
Whether it's Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and FB Groups, it's all allowed us to expand and project ourselves like never before. I know so many folks love sharing and taking pride in their work, and showing it via social media.
I love how we can all do review videos, equipment reviews, and weigh in on our experiences with the equipment that's out there in the industry.
Hopefully you guys enjoy this message and, decide to get involved! Start up an Instagram! Upload some fun videos to YouTube! (They DON'T have to be super edited like some of mine!) Just join in, and get in on the fun. End user, Dealer, Distributor, or Manufacturer, we should all be build bridges, and working together to grow the Green Industry!

Great video. To prove your point 100% correct on "complaining" here is what I just did. I had a bad experience with a model of a MAJOR lawn equipment manufacturer. I talked with my dealer who is a GREAT dealer about the many problems I had with the ZTR mower. He was aware of EVERY one of them and had fixed EVERYTHING under warranty. I was wanting to trade up for a heavier duty, larger machine (same brand, same dealer) so they gave me trade in price. I thought it was way low. So I emailed the manufacturer the history of the 15 month old machine. The regional sales manager with the master distributor called me. Long store short, handling this deal like a professional got me a 66% increase in what they were going to give me trade in money for the ztr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I picked up the new machine today. Be professional, act professional and guess what you will GET professional results plus help and retain great customers!!!!!!!!!!
Brain, I appreciate it. All good stuff and very true. Higher level of collaboration between companies and users with social media. Also keeps crappy products out and good products supported. If I had any gripe, it's what you said about taking up issues with your supplier rather than blowing it up--yeah, if the company is not helpful, that's something to share but give them a chance. Keep up the good work.
This is a fantastic community! We love being able to connect easily to our customers and you guys! It is really one of the most important tools in any business. Great video Brian. Looking forward to seeing what is to come.
The is is my first season as a PT lawn care guy and I learned so much from you and the lawn care family on YouTube.I actually learn more from YouTube than my local dealer about equipment. Thanks man stay positive.
Social media has helped me a bunch. It has showed me what not to buy even if I watch the equipment for a year I get to see whats wrong and how not to waist my money. Everything works great and looks sweet new right. Wait a year see what happens. Also learned lots of short cuts when it comes to working in the field. Better and faster ways to do things.
I'm not a social person but, You Tube has allowed me to interact with so many people going through the same scenarios . I've learned a lot from these people and are thankful for everyone who participates in the industry 👍
I never really thought about that topic. Personally, you shouldn't have to give service away to get a job. There's a lot going on in a situation like that which is not beneficial for either side. Someone is probably getting taken a little bit, and I see that going both ways. I avoid deals that offer freebies. Hope that helps.
Great video! I agree with having a united professional community that can share positive view points on products, business practices, and the like. I do feel that there are lots of companies who would also appreciate such a group so that they can both make better products and they would save lots of development money in market research and time. I have not started my lawn business yet but plan on bidding some commercial jobs this fall and going all out on January 1st 2019. I own 2 of my own businesses and have for over 18 years and am just looking to do something a little different and reduce my current stress load. So I will be keeping one of my businesses and swapping one out for the lawn care. I have bought equipment and am doing a few yards now. I did it throughout my high school years and man the equipment has come a looonggggg way! Thanks Brian !
Well I’m not an owner but I am a lifer in the industry. I work for the top rated lawn company in southwest Michigan. We do not do any advertising or social media. I show my personal work over on Lawnsite.com. I take a lot of pride in my work and am happy to show it off and help educate the folks over there. Would like to start making YouTube videos but really don’t know where to start lol. Anyway, Brian and your faithful followers check out some of my work!!
I worked for 3 Large Companies, ATT, ITT, GTE, as Techs we used to try and tell the Engineers what the end users liked and disliked about the Equipment we were selling. We were the only ones who interacted with the customer.
We were told by the Engineers that they didnt give a crap what the customer thought about anything.
So until I actually see changes, its all just lip service. You do know that right.
A school actually called me today asking for my service. I told them I would get back with them. I'm just a simple residential lawn mowing guy with my brother helping out. Currently getting 15 lawns a week but expanding. If I work with them what should I expect in terms of buying equipment, how many riding mowers would I need, people mowing, etc. I estimated 320,000 sqft using some map tools
Jorge Gomez that only 7.5 acres how much time do you to have to get it done, is it all at 1 location, are whipping and edging. You can scale up or down on equipment vs labor. If you have more time than equipment then do it with less equipment to start, if you have less time for the labor side you need to figure what equipment you need to accomplish it in the man hrs you have. Do you get a helper, is that cheeper that a expensive mower, do your finances allow you to make a big investment even if you break even first year. If I am seeing this right you are more of a part time lawn care doing pick up work and thinking of going to a more full time pro, that is a huge risk when you are talking investing substanial ammout of money for one customer with no guarantee that you will have the work long term. Work it out on paper using worst case as you base line and you will have to decide if it is worth the risk for the gain. good luck.
I think the #1 thing I’m most grateful for pertaining to social media and this community is the personal friends I’ve made by interacting with people like you, Sef, Jake The Lawn Kid, Mow’s Lawn n Iron just to name a few!
Oh No that crazy guy is out in the parking lot talking to himself again. LOL just checked the top 30 lawn care chanels, one guy was at 200,000, it was well over a million and I did not look at a fraction of them. Don't under estimate the little guy, I have been very impressed with what you have done with Youtube. But people don't realize that its like a 2nd job and you put in a lot of hours doing it. Keep kicking ass man while you are young and have the energy, kids will come soon and there goes all your free time. LOL
The issue in my opinion, social media or not, the lawn n landscape service industry is soo flooded with too many companies.. So joining social media, will just be another lawn n landscape company on the internet, another company I see on the internet who I just click next page before reading, another piece of paper to throw away before I read it. People I know dont even use social media to find a lawn n landscape company. They use word of mouth through someone they know n trust personally.
Keeping it professional and legit are two seperate things altho it can be done together some folks dont like that "realness" not many guys keep it 100%real for the reviews or information some just play the sponsorship game .. You see i am still watching you .. Keep keeping it real ..
